How to extract transcripts from a large YouTube channel

Can I extract transcripts from an entire YouTube channel?
Yes. ChannelScout can scan a channel and collect available transcripts in a background job. Studio has no fixed 500-video cutoff. Your subscription allowance, the channel's accessible videos, caption availability, and YouTube's rate limits determine what can be collected.
A channel with thousands of uploads is not an instant download. The job saves progress as it runs, and already saved transcripts can be used before the remaining videos finish.
Start with captions and choose your budget
- Open Transcribe, sign in, and enter the channel URL.
- Choose the channel's date range and video options.
- Choose captions only if you want to collect available YouTube captions without spending Whisper jobs or minutes.
- If you want AI transcription for accessible videos without captions, select the Whisper option and review the remaining allowance before starting.
- Start the job and follow it in Library, under Jobs.
Captioned transcripts and Whisper transcription have separate allowances. Whisper is limited by both jobs and audio minutes. Studio currently includes 50 Whisper jobs and 1,000 minutes per month. Check Pricing for the current allowances for every plan. A large captionless collection can exceed those allowances even when captioned transcripts are unlimited.
The background workflow checks captions first. Captionless videos can be set aside so you can decide later which are worth your Whisper budget. Whisper cannot unlock private or members-only videos.
Can I close the browser?
Yes. Channel background jobs run on the server. Closing a tab, switching devices, or returning the next day does not require restarting the job. Sign into the same account and open Library > Jobs to see saved progress.
You can pause, resume, or stop a job from its controls. A user pause stays paused until you resume it. Saved transcripts remain in your Library. Resuming a paused job uses its saved position instead of starting the channel scan again.
Why might a job slow down or enter cooldown?
YouTube may throttle requests or temporarily block extraction. ChannelScout backs off and can place extraction in a shared cooldown to avoid repeatedly sending requests into a block. The job shows its status and cooldown information. A cooldown is different from a user pause, and changing browsers will not bypass it.
Large jobs may take hours or longer when cooldowns are necessary. An overnight completion is possible, but there is no guaranteed finish time. Existing results stay available while the job waits.
Read the result counts together
- Newly saved transcripts are results added by this run.
- Already saved transcripts are existing Library entries reused without creating duplicates.
- Videos without captions are separate from videos the service cannot access.
- Unavailable videos can include membership, login, age, private-video, and removal restrictions.
- Extraction errors indicate unresolved retrieval problems. They do not prove that captions are absent.
Open the job's missing-transcript details to inspect individual videos and reasons. For the differences between these outcomes, read Why a YouTube transcript can be missing.
Once results arrive, you can search for quotes across your saved channels.
