[0:41] the Thunder of War sounds on the border
[0:44] as the Desert Storm threatens to
[0:50] break good evening from the war zone
[0:54] late reports from all along the front
[0:56] lines indicate that the massive us-led
[0:58] ground war offensive has begun to roll
[1:01] at the very least early parts of it are
[1:04] now stabbing into Southern Iraq and
[1:06] Kuwait this is one reason we're on the
[1:08] air at this time we'll be monitoring the
[1:10] situation throughout this hour President
[1:12] Bush today brushed off the latest bid by
[1:14] Saddam Hussein for a face saving way out
[1:16] of Kuwait so the last deadline is passed
[1:19] and the next round of the conflict is up
[1:21] to the two huge armies faing each other
[1:23] out there in the dark and in the sand we
[1:26] go to David Martin at the
[1:28] Pentagon Dan and uh timing is everything
[1:31] and that is about all that's left here
[1:34] it's clear that the decision to launch a
[1:36] ground offensive has been made by the
[1:38] president and communicated to the
[1:40] Commander in the field General Norman
[1:42] Schwarz goof it is up to him now to
[1:45] decide exactly when and where to strike
[1:48] I think the element of surprise is uh
[1:50] basically gone the uh uh Saddam Hussein
[1:53] had to know that uh an attack would come
[1:56] after the noon deadline expired and
[1:59] probably during hours of darkness and
[2:01] the real question now is exactly where
[2:05] the us is going to strike will it be
[2:06] along the border will it be along the
