[0:08] Tonight, how science may help people
[0:11] live longer and better in the 21st
[0:13] century.
[0:17] This is the CBS Evening News
[0:21] with Dan Rather reporting from CBS News
[0:24] headquarters in New York.
[0:27] >> And this is a special Western edition.
[0:29] Good evening. When the news came this
[0:31] morning, it sounded like the plot of a
[0:33] suspense thriller. A private jet flying,
[0:36] drifting across America with no one at
[0:38] the controls. The pilots and passengers

[1:15] clues as to what went wrong. But
[1:17] tonight, crash experts from the NTSB
[1:20] left Washington to begin an
[1:21] investigation that will clearly focus on
[1:23] a possible pressurization problem with
[1:25] the aircraft. The twin engine Learjet
[1:28] with golfer Payne Stewart and five
[1:29] others aboard left Orlando this morning
[1:31] at about 9:20 in route to Dallas. At
[1:34] 35,000 ft over Gainesville, Florida, the
[1:37] pilots asked for permission to climb.
