[0:00] Tonight

[0:03] [music]

[0:04] on Night Line, direct hit. The first

[0:07] account from inside the house at the

[0:09] moment of impact.

[0:10] >> You know, the back of the house was

[0:12] gone. You know, the fire had started.

[0:14] The I could see the wing of the plane

[0:17] >> when flight 3407 slammed to the ground

[0:20] and an inferno erupted. Amazing escape.

[0:25] The dramatic story of how a mother and

[0:27] daughter escaped the burning home while

[0:29] the father and 49 [music] passengers on

[0:32] board all perished.

[0:34] And ice storm. Did ice buildup bring

[0:38] down the plane? Tonight, [music] Night

[0:40] Line analyzes the early clues. What may

[0:43] have caused this tragic crash?

[0:46] From the global resources of ABC News

[0:49] with Terry Moran, Martin Basher, [music]

[0:51] and Cynthia Mcbaden in New York City.

[0:54] This is Night Line, February 13th, 2009.

[1:00] >> Good evening. The plane was not even a

[1:02] year old. The crew experienced the

[1:05] weather not unusual for a winter night

[1:07] in the Northeast. But Continental Flight

[1:09] number 3407 fell from the sky just miles

[1:13] from Buffalo Airport and burst into

[1:15] flames, claiming the lives of all 49

[1:18] passengers and one man on the ground.

[1:21] President Obama speaking earlier today

[1:23] said that events like this remind us of

[1:25] the fragility of life and the value of

[1:28] every single day. John Donan is live

[1:30] tonight in Clarence Center, New York.

[1:33] Good evening, John.

[1:35] >> Good evening, Martin. And look at where

[1:37] we are in this story. We're just coming

[1:39] up on midnight. And 24 hours ago, it had

[1:42] just happened in the stretch of sky

[1:44] that's above us. We are in Clarence

[1:46] Center, New York. And in that stretch of

[1:48] sky above us, the moment of crisis had

[1:50] taken place on that airplane. And just

[1:52] down the road here, in a house that's

[1:54] not standing there anymore, a woman

[1:56] named Karen Winski, who is a wife and

[2:00] mother of four grown daughters, was

[2:01] about to live an extraordinary but also

[2:04] a terrifying survivor story.

[2:08] It could have been any house on any

[2:11] street or any number of houses, but it

[2:13] was just one. This one, the house on

[2:16] Long Street, which late this afternoon

[2:18] remained strictly a no-go zone except

[2:21] for investigating teams, but which last

[2:24] night was still a home for a few final

[2:27] minutes.

[2:28] >> Okay, it was around a little after

[2:29] 10:00, between 10 and 10:30.

[2:31] >> The voice of Karen Winsky, interviewed

[2:33] today by Barbara Burns of WBN Radio.

[2:36] >> I heard a a noise. Planes do go over our

[2:39] house, but this one just sounded really

[2:41] different, louder. And I thought to

[2:44] myself, you know, if that's a plane,

[2:47] it's going to hit something.

[2:48] >> She was right. It was a plane. And this

[2:50] was it. A Continental Bombardier 8. And

[2:53] somewhere after 10:16 p.m., the co-pilot

[2:57] spoke to air traffic control for the

[2:59] last time.

[3:02] >> No indication of trouble in her voice,

[3:04] but then something went wrong.

[3:07] 3407

[3:10] 347 approaching.

[3:11] >> None of this obviously was known to

[3:13] Karen Winsky who was in her home down

[3:15] below with her husband Doug, a

[3:17] 61-year-old engineer, and one of their

[3:19] daughters, Jill, 22.

[3:22] >> So, were you were you sleeping or were

[3:24] you napping?

[3:24] >> No, no, I was just watching TV. Jill was

[3:27] watching TV. And you you don't do you

[3:30] know what Doug was doing or

[3:32] >> Well, he I know he was going to get

[3:33] ready to go to bed, but um you know he

[3:37] he'll always before you know he'll go

[3:38] out of the family room if he's in there

[3:40] and he'll say when he's going up, "Well,

[3:42] I'm going up." And I don't remember him

[3:44] saying that, but he was working on some

[3:47] of his sports stuff in the the dining

[3:49] room. And my thought is that he was in

[3:52] there.

[3:52] >> Delta 1998, look off your right side

[3:55] about 5 miles uh for a -8 should be

[3:57] 2300. Do you see anything there?

[4:00] >> Uh, negative delta 1998. We're just in

[4:02] the bottoms and nothing on the TKS.

[4:04] >> We now know the sorts of violent

[4:06] girrations that flight 3407 was going

[4:08] through because investigators recovered

[4:10] the flight data recorder.

[4:12] >> Flight director shows a series of severe

[4:15] pitch and roll excursions within seconds

[4:20] of the 15 flaps command. And there down

[4:23] in Clarence Center, plenty of people

[4:26] could hear it coming like Andrew

[4:27] Espazito, a musician.

[4:29] >> And I heard what I thought was like the

[4:30] sound of a big horrible car accident or

[4:32] something. Just kind of like

[4:34] >> You heard something like metallic like

[4:35] >> Yeah. Almost like Well, it was two

[4:36] sounds. It was first. It was a big My

[4:38] window shook and it was kind of like a

[4:40] shaking sound in the room.

[4:41] >> And then I heard an explosion and then

[4:44] that was about 5 minutes later we heard

[4:45] another explosion which I'm I'm assuming

[4:47] was like an engine blowing up or

[4:49] something like that.

[4:52] While that explosion, it was Karen

[4:54] Winsk's house being crushed and she was

[4:58] still inside.

[4:59] >> Next thing I knew, the ceiling was on

[5:02] me. And um I just, you know, I thought I

[5:06] I didn't know how much was on top of me.

[5:09] So, I'm was panicking a little but

[5:11] trying to stay cool. And um you know,

[5:13] happened to notice a a little light on

[5:16] the the right of me. So, I did um I

[5:19] shouted first in case anybody was out

[5:22] there and then just kind of pushed what

[5:25] was on me, part of that off and crawled

[5:27] out the hole. Um I had heard like, you

[5:31] know, a woman crying and I when I came

[5:34] out of the hole.

[5:36] Um you know, the back of the house was

[5:39] gone. Um you know, the fire had started.

[5:43] Um the I could see the wing of the

[5:46] plane. Um and Jill was over to the side

[5:50] um you know crying of course hysterical.

[5:53] Um she she had been at in the front of

[5:56] the house in the upstairs front bedroom

[6:00] and um she heard the noise also and then

[6:04] there was the hit.

[6:08] >> These photos were taken by a student at

[6:10] the University at Buffalo who raced to

[6:12] the scene.

[6:12] >> Could you smell the smoke?

[6:13] >> Oh, absolutely. 5 miles down the road.

[6:15] We put our windows down to see if we

[6:16] guys should smell it. And oh, it was it

[6:18] smelled like a bonfire. But then the

[6:19] closer you got, it was just straight jet

[6:21] fuel. I mean, my clothes, my hair,

[6:23] everything just reeks of the smell of

[6:26] smoke.

[6:27] >> And and at that point, what were was

[6:29] everyone in the neighborhood out of

[6:30] their houses? I mean,

[6:31] >> yeah, absolutely.

[6:32] >> Was out on the street.

[6:33] >> We actually in one of the houses where

[6:34] the um you could tell the plane was

[6:36] closed, there was a phone constantly

[6:37] ringing and ringing. So clearly it was

[6:38] like someone trying to get a hold of

[6:40] those people. What had happened was that

[6:42] neighbors were gathering in the dark

[6:43] down the street, spontaneously showing

[6:45] up at the home of Michelle and Carl Ber,

[6:48] who described the scene to ABC's David

[6:50] Mure late today.

[6:52] >> And then they were on our front lawn.

[6:54] Like a bunch of people were gathering on

[6:56] our front lawn because the smoke was

[6:58] kind of going towards the other houses,

[7:00] so they had to get out of their houses.

[7:01] So they kind of came up wind to our

[7:03] house and gathered on our lawn and and

[7:05] then they were there.

[7:07] They were Karen Winsky and her daughter

[7:10] Jill. Doug was still in the house.

[7:12] >> Whatever was on top of me, I just pushed

[7:14] off and at least part of it enough that

[7:16] I could get out of that hole. And Jill,

[7:19] too, she's still, you know, not sure how

[7:21] she got out. I mean, she knows she did

[7:22] it, but just pushing, I guess, pushing

[7:25] her way out, too. And of course, we had

[7:27] no shoes on. We're just going in our

[7:29] socks, you know, running out in the

[7:31] fields and stuff. and and we had

[7:34] wonderful support from our neighbors and

[7:36] friends and and the the fire people were

[7:39] there right away too. I mean, they came

[7:41] very fast and the people at the hospital

[7:44] were very good, too. Very caring, very

[7:47] nice.

[7:47] >> Have you heard anything from emergency

[7:50] crews about Doug or?

[7:51] >> No. And I don't really know who I would

[7:53] ask or what I would do. I I don't know

[7:55] yet.

[7:56] >> What's known is that her husband Doug

[7:58] was the only person on the ground to

[8:01] die. So precisely say people who have

[8:03] seen the site did that aircraft dive

[8:06] just into that one house. You

[8:08] >> could see the wings in the backyard

[8:10] >> separated from the plane

[8:12] >> uh se like into the house. Yeah.

[8:14] >> So it kind of

[8:14] >> but it was like the whole the front of

[8:16] the plane was gone. So all we could see

[8:18] was the wings in the back of it.

[8:19] >> And of course no one on board the plane

[8:22] survived.

[8:23] >> All of a sudden we see someone pull out

[8:25] a body bag. And that's actually when you

[8:27] know it really hit you that this is this

[8:28] isn't just a movie. This is something

[8:29] that really happened in real life. And I

[8:31] think that's when, you know, everyone

[8:32] just kind of took a step back. No one

[8:35] because everybody saw it and no one knew

[8:36] what to say. You could tell the police

[8:38] were they lifted it up and you I you

[8:40] couldn't see any details, but you could

[8:41] obviously tell it was the figure of what

[8:44] was doing. So,

[8:45] >> five crew and 44 passengers. The vigil

[8:48] that began a few hours ago at dusk was a

[8:51] gathering of many different church

[8:52] congregations. The dead included members

[8:55] of this community as well as visitors to

[8:57] Buffalo. Among them, Beverly Eckert, who

[9:00] only recently had met with President

[9:02] Obama in her endless campaign for

[9:05] families of people who lost relatives in

[9:07] the September 11th attacks, because she

[9:10] was one of them.

[9:11] >> Something I owe my husband. I owe his

[9:13] memory to make something constructive of

[9:16] of of my life and uh of of September

[9:19] 11th.

[9:20] >> Also on the plane, Allison Desorges, who

[9:23] worked for Human Rights Watch and had

[9:25] chronicled the genocide in Rwanda. a

[9:28] lifelong friend of Buffalo resident

[9:30] Claude Welch at whose kitchen table she

[9:32] was a regular visitor.

[9:34] >> And she was heart and soul and brains

[9:37] and everything else.

[9:38] >> She had so many friends and to multiply

[9:42] that by the number of those who

[9:43] perished. Well, this sorrow has a long

[9:46] way to echo yet as will the voice of

[9:49] Karen Winsky remembering her husband

[9:52] Doug.

[9:53] >> If you could just tell people one thing

[9:55] you'd want them to know about him, what

[9:56] would you tell them?

[9:58] Oh gosh,

[10:00] he was a good person.

[10:04] Loved his family.

[10:07] And Martin, we're left now with the

[10:09] question of why. How did it happen? And

[10:11] investigators for the federal

[10:12] government, the National Transportation

[10:14] Safety Board to look into these things.

[10:15] They have been all over the site and

[10:17] they're saying they they can't rule out

[10:19] any cause, but they are definitely

[10:21] looking at the possibility of ice. They

[10:23] know from listening to the flight

[10:24] cockpit recorder that the crew had

[10:27] recognized there was ice on the wings.

[10:28] There was a buildup and and ice will

[10:31] bring a plane down. Today we spoke with

[10:33] our aviation expert at ABC News, John

[10:35] Nance. What puts ice on an airplane? And

[10:37] he says literally flying into the wrong

[10:39] cloud. Other planes might not encounter

[10:41] it and your plane might if it hits the

[10:43] wrong cloud. But at this point it's very

[10:45] you have to wonder at the possibility of

[10:47] a of a cloud being able to cause all of

[10:50] this. Martin. Our thanks to John Don.

[10:54] And we'll be right back.

[11:01] >> ABC News Night Line brought to you by

[11:03] Geico.

[11:09] [laughter]

[11:12] >> That's the money you could be saving

[11:13] with Geico.

[11:17] >> What?

[11:19] >> Geico. 15 minutes [music] could save you

[11:21] 15% or more on car insurance.

[11:23] >> It's the money you could be saving with

[11:25] Geico. You were made for each other. You

[11:28] like money. He likes money. Well, he is

[11:32] money.

[11:33] [music]

[11:34] >> Geico. 15 minutes could save you 15% or

[11:36] more on car insurance.

[11:39] >> Emit, your gray facial hair has put you

[11:42] in a rocking chair.

[11:43] >> Your beard is weird.

[11:45] >> Just for gel

[11:46] >> gets rid of gray in five easy minutes.

[11:48] His edge is back. He scores. Just for

[11:51] men, keep your edge.

[11:53] >> Robbitasen [music] knows one of the

[11:55] reasons we cough is to help clear away

[11:57] mucus. Robbitasen [music] DM Max has a

[11:59] double dose of the medicine that helps

[12:01] clear mucus while also controlling your

[12:03] cough. Robbitasen DM Max, [music] double

[12:06] the strength against mucus for a reason.

[12:08] >> Mom knew I needed calcium from [music]

[12:10] day one. Now I'm the mom and I know 80%

[12:13] of us don't get enough calcium from

[12:15] food. Our bodies can steal it [music]

[12:17] from our bones. Give yourself some TLC,

[12:19] tenderloving cow trait, and give TLC to

[12:22] somebody you love.

[12:23] >> How important is it that you get the

[12:24] right information rather than just a lot

[12:26] of information?

[12:27] >> Well, you know, you can roll around in

[12:29] facts all day long.

[12:32] >> It's critical that we stay aware of that

[12:34] mountain of data that's coming in and

[12:37] mine it for the most valuable nuggets.

[12:39] It helps keep us honest. You know, these

[12:42] brands belong to the consumers who love

[12:44] them every day. If you don't understand

[12:46] that, you will lose your way.

[12:53] >> New Crest Pro Health Whitening helps

[12:56] reveal our teeth's natural whiteness by

[12:58] reducing up to 80% of surface stains

[13:00] [music] and also protects all these

[13:02] other areas dentists check most, so your

[13:04] smile is always at its best. New Crest

[13:07] Pro Health Whitening.

[13:08] >> Johnny Knoxville on an allnew Jimmy.

[13:11] Coming up on ABC. Desperate times.

[13:14] >> I just want to know your porn name.

[13:16] >> Desperate measures.

[13:18] >> We're going to lose everything.

[13:19] >> He's the one who's cheating.

[13:20] >> I'm getting a bonus base on blackmail.

[13:22] >> You're welcome.

[13:23] >> ABC's Desperate Housewives. All new

[13:25] Sunday 98 central on ABC.

[13:29] >> Wow.

[13:30] >> What?

[13:31] >> Nothing. Nothing.

[13:31] >> I can take this whenever you guys are

[13:33] ready.

[13:33] >> Oh, thanks.

[13:34] >> Cuz I paid for it last, so you know.

[13:37] >> That's it. Love this place. Free Wi-Fi,

[13:41] >> free paper, free refills. If you like

[13:43] free, you'll love Wamu free checking.

[13:45] Get free online banking, a free debit

[13:47] card, free checks, and free ATM cash

[13:48] withdrawals.

[13:49] >> Do you have a biscati? Another one?

[13:51] >> Scotty's free.

[13:51] >> Yeah, I knew that.

[13:53] >> Free checking from Wamu. Now backed by

[13:55] [music] the power of Chase.

[14:08] In these tough economic times, Americans

[14:10] are searching for ways to save money.

[14:12] And some will go much further than

[14:14] others, like the group you're about to

[14:15] meet. In order to save cash, they've

[14:17] gone south of the border where taxes are

[14:20] low and the weather is near perfect. As

[14:22] Jeffrey Kaufman now reports.

[14:26] >> All right, come on in. Oh god. All

[14:30] right,

[14:31] >> Gay Rafferty and Ira Crow are thinking

[14:33] of buying this stunning three-bedroom

[14:35] home, including guest cottage, outdoor

[14:38] dining area, and large gardens.

[14:41] >> Glass entrance with lots and lots of

[14:43] morning sun in um around the corner to

[14:46] the formal entry, the formal cella.

[14:49] >> Gosh. All right. So, look at this.

[14:53] >> For sale for $645,000.

[14:57] Not cheap, but a deal in today's real

[14:59] estate market, the same spread in a

[15:01] prime location in Florida, could cost

[15:03] upwards of a million dollars. But we're

[15:06] not in Florida. We're in Mexico. You've

[15:09] been here a week,

[15:10] >> correct?

[15:10] >> And did you come planning Dubai?

[15:12] >> No, we didn't. That was not in our mind

[15:14] at all.

[15:15] >> What's happened here?

[15:16] >> Fell in love with San Miguel like

[15:18] everybody else. [bell]

[15:22] It's a familiar story here in the

[15:24] mountain city of San Miguel de Aende,

[15:27] northwest of Mexico City. Visitors are

[15:29] instantly seduced by the spectacular

[15:32] Spanish colonial city center, by city

[15:34] streets that overflow with cafes and

[15:36] restaurants. It helps that it's within

[15:38] driving distance of Texas. But what

[15:41] really helps are the staggering savings

[15:43] to be had.

[15:46] How about a gardener in the US? 10 to

[15:48] $15 an hour. here about $2 an hour. And

[15:53] a housekeeper who cooks and cleans $80 a

[15:55] day in the US, $80 for a 5day week in

[15:59] San Miguel.

[16:01] More than 10% of the 80,000 full-time

[16:03] residents here are Americans and

[16:05] Canadians. And as millions of baby

[16:07] boomers face retirement in an economy

[16:09] that has ravaged their savings, places

[16:11] like San Miguel have an extra appeal. We

[16:14] talked to a group of Americans who now

[16:16] call San Miguel home. Tim Johnson from

[16:19] New York has been living here for almost

[16:21] four years.

[16:22] >> You'd be amazed at what you can get for

[16:23] 80 pesos.

[16:24] >> Oh yeah.

[16:24] >> I mean 80 pesos. 80 pesos would be like

[16:26] what? 650 $6. You get

[16:30] >> you know your oranges for half. Yeah.

[16:32] For half of the week, you know. And I

[16:33] mean, you know, all kinds of fresh

[16:34] vegetables.

[16:35] >> Tom King is also from New York.

[16:37] >> Anything that involves service is much

[16:39] much cheaper here. If you if you bang up

[16:41] your car and you get body work, it's

[16:44] maybe a third or a fourth of what it

[16:46] would cost in the United States or less.

[16:48] >> Robin Arena is from Fort Worth, Texas.

[16:51] >> Food, it's so inexpensive. You go to the

[16:52] market. I remember the very first time I

[16:54] went to buy cilantro. I was like, this

[16:56] is 20 cents. This is all it is. It's 20

[16:58] cents. I kept thinking, I need to add

[16:59] another zero. It was unbelievable.

[17:04] >> Writer Jeannie Rston and photographer

[17:05] Rob Kendrick moved to San Miguel with

[17:07] their two boys. Life for them is exotic

[17:10] yet very comfortable. And it's

[17:13] impossible to overlook the savings. In

[17:15] Florida, property tax on a $500,000 home

[17:18] is $10,000 a year. And add another

[17:21] $10,000 or more for hurricane insurance.

[17:24] >> Once you buy a house here, property

[17:26] taxes on a nice house could be $2 to

[17:28] $400 a year. We don't have a homeowner's

[17:30] insurance because the houses are stone

[17:32] and stucco and so they're not going to

[17:35] burn very very easily. I didn't get to

[17:38] see what your homework was yesterday in

[17:40] in Spanish.

[17:41] >> In the US, top private schools can be

[17:43] $28,000 a year. Here, the bilingual

[17:46] private school the boys go to costs

[17:48] $2,000 a year. And Jeie and Rob are

[17:51] convinced the boys are getting a good

[17:53] education. The family came for a year.

[17:56] They've loved it so much that they've

[17:58] stayed for three.

[17:59] >> Ready for school? But as the boys

[18:02] approach high school age, Jeanie and Rob

[18:04] are thinking of returning to the US,

[18:06] which is why they put their house up for

[18:08] sale. But they're not sure they really

[18:10] want to leave. I've said this to Rob. I

[18:13] think San Miguel has almost ruined us

[18:14] for other cities. We've been all across

[18:16] the US now looking for the next place

[18:18] we're going to move. And you know, San

[18:21] Miguel has so much. It has everything in

[18:23] one place.

[18:25] And despite the recession, maybe because

[18:27] of it, Americans are still coming to San

[18:30] Miguel. On the edge of town, condos are

[18:32] for sale for $250,000.

[18:35] Outside town, new Florida style golf

[18:38] resorts, starter homes for $200,000.

[18:42] That is not a local coffee chain on the

[18:44] town square, and there are the oho

[18:46] familiar big box retailers just a short

[18:49] drive away. This once remote area in

[18:52] central Mexico is on the cusp of a

[18:54] population explosion. That is Jack

[18:57] Watson, President Jimmy Carter's former

[18:59] chief of staff, now a San Miguel

[19:01] resident. As this town grows and becomes

[19:04] more American, is there a danger that

[19:06] it's going to lose its flavor?

[19:08] >> Absolutely. Mhm.

[19:10] >> I'm concerned about the influx of lots

[19:13] of people because one of the one of the

[19:15] really special things about this place

[19:17] is is the nature of the place. So that

[19:21] if it if it is overwhelmed by people

[19:25] coming from the United States or from

[19:26] wherever else, you've got lots of

[19:29] problems.

[19:31] You've heard of Mexicans clamoring to

[19:32] live in the US. Here it's the opposite.

[19:35] Americans migrating south of the border.

[23:51] >> Flowers and food are known to play a

[23:53] part in any rousing romance, and

[23:55] there'll be plenty of both tomorrow on

[23:57] Valentine's Day. So, what better than to

[23:59] mark this occasion with the help of

[24:01] Super Chef Patrick Connelly and the

[24:03] Night Line plate list. [music]

[24:13] I mean, there's no easier way to romance

[24:15] than DVU. If I were you, I'd take

[24:18] precaution.

[24:20] You know what I'm saying? I'm a big

[24:22] Irish guy and you start off thinking

[24:24] that you're all suave and that you've,

[24:26] you know, oh, I got this girl. Like, my

[24:28] voice sounds good. I'm dancing. She

[24:30] starts laughing. You realize like, okay,

[24:31] this isn't working for me. And in fact,

[24:33] it's never worked for me. [music]

[24:40] Bring the chicken over. We're going to

[24:41] put it in that olive oil and slowly cook

[24:44] it on like medium low heat and make it

[24:46] nice and crispy. Fresh thyme, a little

[24:48] bit of fresh rosemary. I also have a

[24:49] single clove of garlic. Add a little bit

[24:51] of butter. I'm just going to base and

[24:53] just try to work all those flavors. The

[24:55] greatest thing about this job for me is

[24:57] there's a balance of creativity and

[24:59] athleticism and physicality. And the

[25:01] fact that at the end of the day, you

[25:02] have, you know, you know, given your

[25:04] creativity, but you're also sweating,

[25:07] you know, and you wake up the next

[25:08] morning and your legs are sore. I like

[25:10] that. That's pretty exciting. So now we

[25:12] have our potatoes that we either put

[25:13] through the ricer the, you know, food

[25:15] processor. I have a single egg and I'm

[25:17] just going to use the yolk. So I want to

[25:19] just work this. And then I have a little

[25:22] bit of allpurpose flour and almond

[25:23] flour. And I just want to alternate back

[25:25] and forth so there's equal parts both.

[25:27] There's no point cooking for a woman if

[25:29] she can't watch you cook because that's

[25:30] kind of that's going to help you in the

[25:32] end. You're just going to cut little

[25:34] lengths of it like this. Start in the

[25:37] center and then just roll out. Roll into

[25:40] these long cords. Just make

[25:43] nice even cuts. All the same size. Start

[25:46] with a little bit of olive oil. My

[25:47] mustard greens. I'm just going to add

[25:48] this to the shallot and the butter.

[25:50] Yokis are all starting to float to the

[25:52] top which means they're ready. We're

[25:54] just going to transfer them into the

[25:56] mustard greens. Just spoon a little bit

[25:58] down. Take the thigh first. Put the

[26:00] breast on top. Ll cool sea. Ladies love

[26:03] cool chicken.

[26:13] You need to be your harshest critic.

[26:15] Like anything you read needs to be

[26:18] powderpuff compared to what you're

[26:20] selling yourself in your head. So if

[26:22] things are going really well, she would

[26:23] have loved the chicken and she'll love

[26:25] the crepes. If they're going really,

[26:26] really well, you barely get through the

[26:29] chicken and then you just give her the

[26:30] crepes the next morning. We're going to

[26:31] start with a little bit of sugar in this

[26:33] pan. We're going to just make a light

[26:35] caramel. Just keep the pan moving. When

[26:37] it gets like a light brown color, going

[26:39] to add the kumquats. Add a little touch

[26:41] of butter. This is very important to

[26:43] remember to impress girls when cooking.

[26:45] When you put booze into a pan, they love

[26:47] that.

[26:49] So, I have some crepe batter. Going to

[26:51] start at like 12:00 and then just get a

[26:54] nice even layer of the batter. Get in

[26:56] there and just flip it.

[26:59] We're going to take our Nutella and just

[27:01] smear half of this crepe. Fold that

[27:04] over. Put a nice little sear on it.

[27:07] Crisp up that first side. Flip it.

[27:10] Just spoon a little bit on the inside.

[27:13] Finish with a little bit of powdered

[27:15] sugar.

[27:17] Happy Valentine's Day.

[27:21] [music]

[27:25] I think cooking a meal for someone

[27:27] important to you, like in your home,

[27:29] it's almost like it's almost like making

[27:31] a mix tape. You pick it out, you put it

[27:33] together, you serve it, everything start

[27:35] to finish. Like for me, that's the only

[27:37] thing I got going in terms of like

[27:39] creative expression. So, I want a

[27:41] chicken with truffle in a sauce. Must

[27:44] greens with almond milk.
