[0:02] Fable and Mythos both gone. The US
[0:06] government citing national security
[0:08] authorities has issued an export control
[0:11] directive to suspend all access to Fable
[0:14] 5 and Mythos 5 by any foreign national,
[0:18] and I'm going to explain exactly what
[0:20] that means, whether inside or outside
[0:23] the United States, including foreign
[0:25] national Anthropic employees. The net
[0:27] effect of this order is that we must
[0:30] abruptly disable Fable 5 and Mythos 5
[0:34] for all our customers to ensure
[0:37] compliance. Access to all other Claude
[0:40] models is not affected. We apologize for
[0:42] this disruption to our customers. We
[0:44] believe this is a misunderstanding
[0:47] and are working to restore access as
[0:50] soon as possible. And I'm going to get
[0:52] into the full blog in a moment, but
[0:54] there's a few things that I want to
[0:55] point out here. First, what is a foreign
[0:58] national? It's basically any non-US
[1:02] citizen, which is crazy because there
[1:04] are obviously a ton of green card
[1:07] holders, just as an example, in the
[1:09] United States that work for these large
[1:11] tech companies, including people like
[1:13] Andrej Karpathy, one of the greatest
[1:15] minds in artificial intelligence, who
[1:17] just about 2 weeks ago joined Anthropic.
[1:21] And so, how is Anthropic supposed to
[1:23] enforce this rule? How are they supposed
[1:25] to know whether someone's a citizen or a
[1:27] non-citizen when they're just using the
[1:29] API? They're going to have to do things
[1:32] like know your customer, which is what
[1:34] financial institutions have to do. They
[1:36] basically have to gather all of this
[1:38] information about
