[0:05] News with Dan Rather and Connie
[0:08] CH good evening at the OJ Simpson murder
[0:11] trial today lawyers for the people
[0:13] presented evidence that Simpson was a
[0:15] repeated wife beater who once threatened
[0:17] to kill the woman he now stands accused
[0:20] of killing his former wife Nicole Brown
[0:24] it was the first day of testimony in the
[0:26] trial and it began with something
[0:28] unheard of in a California Court room
[0:30] correspondent Bill Whitaker is in Los
[0:32] Angeles covering the OJ Simpson case the
[0:35] first Witnesses were put on hold for 10
[0:38] minutes while prosecutors used their
[0:40] unprecedented reopening remarks to rip
[0:43] into the defense's most startling
[0:45] witness Marsha Clark told jurors that
[0:47] Maryanne geres whom the defense claims
[0:50] saw four men running from the murder
[0:52] scene earlier had told a friend she was
[0:55] nowhere nearby the evidence will show
[0:57] that Maryann geres is a known liar and a
[1:00] Simpson case groupy then finally the
[1:02] first prosecution
[1:05] witness Sharon Gilbert the police
[1:08] operator who answered the first of those
[1:09] Infamous 911 calls this one from the
[1:12] Simpson residents early New Year's Day
[1:15] 1989 prosecutors played the tape for the
[1:18] jurors which they say is Nicole
[1:23] screaming Gilbert said she immediately
[1:26] dispatched police I could in remembering
[1:28] the call I could determine after the
[1:31] first scream then I heard someone being
[1:34] hit then the second witness the LAPD
[1:37] officer who responded to the call and
[1:39] found Nicole Brown Simpson cowering in
[1:42] the bushes half naked battered and
[1:44] bruised she was wet she was uh she was
[1:49] shivering
