[0:05] Stand by now for See It Now with Edward
[0:09] R. Murrow,
[0:11] which originates in Studio 41 in New
[0:14] York City.
[0:28] Alcoa, Aluminum Company of America, in
[0:31] cooperation with CBS Television,
[0:34] presents the distinguished reporter and
[0:36] news analyst Edward R. Murrow in See It
[0:41] Now,
[0:42] edited and produced by Mr. Murrow and
[0:44] Fred W. Friendly.
[0:47] A weekly presentation of Aluminum
[0:49] Company of America, the nation's leading
[0:51] producer of aluminum.
[0:54] Now speaking to you from the control
[0:56] room of Studio 41 is the editor of See
[0:58] It Now, Edward R. Murrow.
[1:01] Good evening. This tattered hunk of
[1:03] cloth is a hurricane flag. We borrowed
[1:06] it from the Coast Guard Station at
[1:08] Sandwich on Cape Cod. It survived two
[1:10] hurricanes in 11 days. It is the
[1:13] traditional method of warning along the
[1:15] New England coast.
[1:17] If you live along the coast, you pray
[1:18] that the hurricane won't hit.
[1:21] And if it doesn't,
[1:23] well, at least you expect to have
[1:24] adequate warning. On Edna last week, we
[1:27] had at least 24 hours of warning.
[1:30] Her movements were reported as
[1:31] completely as those of the president or
[1:33] of a movie star.
[1:35] We went down to Bermuda to study with
[1:37] the men who track and diagnose
[1:39] hurricanes, out with the Weather Service
[1:42] of MATS.
[1:43] We flew in a B-29.
[1:46] And we started with a briefing at
[1:48] Kindley Air Force Base in Bermuda.
[1:56] Gentlemen, we're going after Hurricane
[1:57] Edna this trip.
[1:59] She's located approximately 620 mi
[2:02] west-southwest of Bermuda.
[2:04] Our flight plan will be approximately 10
[2:06] hours, our flight level at 10,000 ft.
[2:09] Our penetration level will be 10,000 ft.
