[0:02] New pain at the pump. Gasoline inflation
[0:05] moves into the fast lane as supplies
[0:08] shrink and demand rises.
[0:11] The desperate search for a ship said to
[0:14] be carrying child slaves.
[0:17] Eye on America investigates a new and
[0:19] spreading drug craze with deadly side
[0:22] effects. And the crime galvanized the
[0:26] civil rights movement. After four
[0:28] decades, this man is finally going on
[0:31] trial.
[0:38] This is the CBS Evening News with Dan
[0:41] Rather reporting from CBS News
[0:43] headquarters in New York.
[0:45] Good evening. Gasoline at $3 a gallon.
[0:48] Maybe. The meter that tallies the price
[0:51] of your gasoline purchase is spinning
[0:53] faster and faster. An Energy Department
[0:56] survey out today finds pump prices in
[0:58] just the past 3 weeks have risen 16

[1:05] gallon. Gasoline is highest in Western

[1:20] US motor fuel consumption has hit a
[1:22] record high. Pump prices could be
[1:25] heading for a record as well. CBS's Jim
[1:27] Axelrod is on the price watch.
[1:31] Now that tax season is just about over,
[1:33] Americans are free to get really
[1:35] aggravated. $1.59, $1.69.
[1:39] It's ridiculous. It's going up so high.
[1:41] With production levels off from this
[1:42] time last year, there's roughly 6% less
[1:45] gasoline in stock. At the same time,
[1:48] peak driving season is almost here. Low
[1:51] supply, high demand. It doesn't take a
[1:54] PhD in economics to figure out what that
[1:57] could mean. This is outrageous, man. I
[1:59] would not be surprised at all to see
[2:01] gasolin
