[0:00] weeks is a foreign
[0:01] >> with Dan Rather in Moscow and Connie
[0:03] [music] Chung in Los Angeles.
[0:06] >> Good evening. President Clinton is
[0:08] spending tonight in the Kremlin capping
[0:10] a summit that he hopes will show the way
[0:12] to the future. The president worked hard
[0:14] to support his political friend Boris
[0:16] Yelson and even harder to promote
[0:18] freedom, democracy, and peace here in
[0:20] Russia. Today's photo op highlight was a
[0:23] three-way deal, some of which is still
[0:25] secret, to remove former Soviet nuclear
[0:28] weapons from Ukraine. Correspondent Rita
[0:31] Braver begins our coverage.
[0:33] >> A triple handshake. The presidents of
[0:36] the United States, Russia, and Ukraine
[0:38] celebrate the signing of an agreement to
[0:40] remove Ukrainian nuclear weapons. No
[0:42] mention of private concerns that the

[0:49] increase its authority among nations for
[0:51] doing this.

[0:56] both clearly sensitive to criticism
[0:58] within Russia that they're too close.
[1:00] >> The implication that somehow we have
[1:03] tried to
[1:05] direct the course of Russian policy or
[1:09] is just not accurate and not true. The
[1:12] people of Russia have to define their
[1:14] own future. President Yelson was asked
[1:16] if the future now includes a slowdown of
[1:18] Russia's move to a free market economy.
[1:24] >> Western ideas have already hit it big on
[1:26] Russian television. President Clinton
[1:28] was invited to hold one of his trademark
[1:30] national town meetings. I saw your
