[0:52] Now you're hearing why the guitar has a
[0:54] special significance in American music
[0:56] in almost all kinds of American music,
[0:58] plaintive ballads to wood stomping
[1:01] country tunes, heart wrenching blues,
[1:03] the guitarist plucks at our emotions.
[1:07] And we're lucky to have with us this
[1:08] morning two of the very best, B.B. King,
[1:10] king of the blues,
[1:11] and Chet Atkins, who of course is the
[1:13] man credited with bringing country music
[1:15] uptown. We're also talking to Jim
[1:17] Crockett, who is the editor of Guitar
[1:19] Player magazine, and publisher, I guess,
[1:22] Jim actually. This thing guys that we
[1:25] were kicking around before we began here
[1:27] about the guitar being the national
[1:29] instrument of the United States, how
[1:31] much
[1:32] credence can we give to that? Jim, you
[1:33] want to start out?
[1:34] Well, I think it would be very safe to
[1:35] say that
[1:36] while there may be more people who know
[1:37] how to play piano because of the school
[1:39] systems over all the years, I think the
[1:41] number of people who actually play
[1:44] guitar actively, practicing, rehearsing,
[1:46] keeping it with them all the time,
[1:48] probably easily makes the guitar the
[1:50] most popular instrument in the United
[1:51] States, certainly, if not the entire
[1:53] world.
[1:54] Do you think it
[1:55] qualifies uh Chet for the for the King
[1:57] of the Instruments title?
[1:59] I think it does and uh
[2:01] the next question is why, right?
[2:03] Sure.
[2:03] I don't know.
[2:05] Well, I mean
[2:06] it's cuz it's the shape like a woman.
[2:08] Yeah.
[2:09] It's the romance.
[2:10] Uh BB, you have uh
[2:12] a guitar with a name.
[2:13] Oh, yeah. That's Lucille.
[2:15] Lucille and many generations of them.
[2:17] Yeah, Lucille the 15th.
[2:18] 15th.
[2:20] Is
