[0:02] >> The United States government is trying

[0:04] to create peace in the heart of Europe.

[0:07] Outside Dayton, Ohio, the United States

[0:09] is making its most serious effort yet to

[0:11] facilitate a genuine peace in Bosnia.

[0:14] And this afternoon, the Secretary of

[0:16] State sat down with the presidents of

[0:17] Bosnia, Serbia, and Croatia. And in his

[0:20] opening remarks, Mr. Christopher said,

[0:22] "Future generations will surely hold us

[0:25] accountable if we fail." In Dayton

[0:27] tonight for us, ABC's David Ensor.

[0:31] >> Secretary Christopher arrived in Dayton

[0:33] with a plea to the Balkan leaders to set

[0:59] whose troops have won considerable

[1:02] more at the peace table. And Alija

[1:04] Izetbegovic of Bosnia, whose army is

[1:06] stronger now than at any time during the

[1:08] war.

[1:09] Before there can be peace, these men

[1:11] must settle three basic issues. The

[1:13] division of territory, the fate of

[1:15] nearly 3 million refugees, and how

[1:18] Bosnia will choose its leaders in the

[1:19] future. US officials came here with a

[1:22] draft of a peace agreement, rules under

[1:24] which NATO forces would keep the peace,

[1:26] and a draft constitution for

[1:28] Bosnia-Herzegovina written by American
