[0:17] sound of terror in a high school under
[0:20] siege.
[0:24] The teenager who made a dramatic escape
[0:27] now fights for his life.
[0:29] And on its 50th anniversary, the NATO
[0:31] alliance rejects a Russian brokered
[0:33] peace plan for Yugoslavia.

[0:43] with Dan Rather.
[0:45] Good evening. Dan is off tonight. I'm
[0:47] John Roberts. The sounds from a high
[0:49] school massacre in progress. Authorities
[0:51] late today released the frantic and
[0:53] chaotic 911 tapes from Tuesday's killing
[0:56] spree at Columbine High School. This is
[0:58] suspicions grow that the two known
[1:00] shooters may have had help. CBS's Bill
[1:03] Whitaker is on the scene in Littleton,
[1:04] Colorado with late details. Bill.
[1:08] John, we've seen the pictures and heard
[1:10] the reactions. But the 911 tapes
[1:12] released today add a harrowing new
[1:14] dimension to this tragedy.
[1:18] It's the bone-chilling soundtrack for
[1:20] these images of terror. One of the first
[1:22] 911 calls from an unidentified student
[1:24] inside the school.
[1:30] Just moments later, while terrorized
[1:32] students ran for their lives, you hear
[1:34] and feel the rising terror. A teaching
[1:36] assistant named Peggy calls from the
[1:38] library.
[2:06] In the wake of this tragedy, the whole
[2:08] town seems to be questioning itself.
[2:10] Should someone have noticed Eric Harris
[2:12] and Dylan Klebold were primed to
[2:14] explode? There were glaring signals.
[2:16] Harris had an alarmingly violent
[2:18] website. The boys made a class video of
[2:21] trench-coated gunmen shooting athletes.
[2:23] Harris wrote death threats over the
[2:25] internet. Yet a court official recently
[2:27] gave both boys
