[0:02] This is the CBS Evening News with Dan
[0:05] Rather.
[0:07] >> Good evening. Poland's fragile labor
[0:09] truce was shattered today, creating the
[0:12] most volatile atmosphere there since
[0:13] last summer's union rebellion.
[0:15] Solidarity, Poland's 10 million member
[0:18] union called brief warning strikes in
[0:20] four cities to protest the first violent
[0:23] clash between its members and police.
[0:26] The Union also declared a nationwide
[0:28] strike alert for Monday. This new

[1:10] or Union involving troops in Germany and
[1:12] Czechoslovakia as well as Poland and the
[1:15] Soviet Union. So far, according to
[1:17] analysts here, the exercise conforms
[1:20] with assurances made privately by Soviet
[1:22] officials that it would be
[1:23] non-threatening. But military experts
[1:26] believe that on or about Monday,
[1:28] maneuvers are likely to include some
[1:30] operations involving what is called live
[1:32] play. In other words, smallcale mock
[1:35] battles. Even short of the worst case in
