[0:01] Good evening. I'm Bob Schaefer. The
[0:03] president says it flat out. Harriet
[0:05] Meyers is the most qualified person in
[0:08] America to sit on the Supreme Court.
[0:10] We'll begin there tonight and we'll
[0:13] cover these stories. I'm Alan Fizzy.
[0:15] Another deadly day for American troops.
[0:17] But is there a bigger problem on the
[0:19] horizon?
[0:20] >> New Orleans is slowly coming back minus
[0:24] the kids. I'm Sharon Alonsy with that
[0:27] story. Can a nursing home really feel
[0:30] like home? I'm Falia Shurus with some
[0:32] answers.
[0:34] >> I'm Byron. He's a rarity in professional

[0:37] >> He's a deaf.
[0:43] >> This is the CBS Evening News with Bob

[1:03] gets to the bench. He may be right about
[1:05] that, but he may have been wrong when he
[1:08] said it's the Democrats who will decide
[1:10] whether there'll be a bitter fight over
[1:11] her nomination because so far it is the
[1:14] right wing of his own party that seems
[1:17] the most upset about her selection. Here
[1:19] is John Roberts at the White House.
[1:23] It was clear today that the president
[1:25] was miffed by conservative criticism
[1:27] that his choice of Harriet Meyers was
[1:30] weak and designed to avoid a fight. When
[1:32] it's all said and done, the American
[1:34] people are going to know what I know,
[1:35] though.
[1:37] This woman deserves to be on the bench
[1:40] and she'll be credit she'll bring cred
