[0:02] This is the CBS Evening News
[0:07] with Dan Rather and Connie Chung.

[0:16] >> At the first US troops landed in Kuwait
[0:18] today, Iraq said its forces were pulling

[0:21] Hussein had wanted to use the military
[0:23] threat to force an end to UN trade

[1:07] up any signs of an Iraqi retreat. And
[1:09] Pentagon officials insist they are not
[1:12] calling off the buildup. In fact, they
[1:14] now plan to begin sending B-52 bombers.
[1:17] The aircraft carrier George Washington
[1:18] passed through the Suez Canal into the
[1:20] Red Sea today, bringing its 75 planes in
[1:23] range of targets in Iraq. And about 50
[1:26] aircraft, including the A-10 tank
[1:28] killer, left Pope Air Force Base in
[1:30] North Carolina bound for Saudi Arabia.
