[0:00] military logistics into Iraq for the
[0:02] allied forces, but they needed to bring
[0:04] humanitarian aid and they want to start
[0:06] doing that as soon as possible as Jason
[0:08] just said as well. And so what they had
[0:10] hoped because really is only a few
[0:13] kilometers across the border from Kuwait
[0:15] and they had hoped to be able to take it
[0:17] very very rapidly and there have been
[0:19] certain uh number of defections. We've
[0:21] been told that they've got or rather
[0:23] surrendered about 450 Iraqis have
[0:26] surrendered uh both between Omasa and
[0:29] the Alfor Peninsula in this operation.
[0:32] Uh they are now being treated as
[0:33] prisoners of war. So they have had
[0:35] certain amount of surrenders but they
[0:37] are also getting this uh in some cases
[0:40] fairly stiff resistance but again when
[0:43] we asked the commanders is this
[0:44] something that is going to be disabling
[0:47] is it going to keep you pinned down for
[0:48] very long they said no we have superior
[0:51] firepower we are uh plan to have this
[0:53] wrapped up by the end of the day. Of
[0:55] course, things often don't go to plan as
[0:57] you know in the military in terms of
[0:58] timelines, but they don't believe that
[1:01] this is something that is overwhelmingly
[1:03] difficult for them to put down. They're
[1:05] small isolated pockets um in some cases
[1:09] snipers, in some cases groups of uh
[1:12] Iraqis. And as I say, they're never
[1:14] quite sure exactly who these Iraqis are
[1:16] because in some cases they are in
[1:18] civilian clothes and then we're told
[1:20] they find, you know, weapons on them and
[1:23] military badges and this and that. So it
[1:26] is obviously elements of the Iraqi army.
[1:29] But re
