[0:06] filled with passengers crashes in The
[0:08] Frigid Waters off Manhattan and everyone
[0:11] on board survives we'll have the latest
[0:13] on how the skill of the pilots and the
[0:15] heroics of First Responders prevented a
[0:19] disaster I'm Katie Kirk just a few
[0:21] hundred yards from the scene of the
[0:23] crash survivors here faced frigid
[0:25] temperatures but New York City isn't the
[0:28] only place in the Deep Freeze
[0:30] dangerous below zero temperatures grip
[0:32] the nation from the Midwest to the
[0:35] Northeast and overseas Israeli artillery
[0:38] hits a un compound in Gaza where
[0:41] hundreds of Palestinians had taken
[0:47] shelter this is the CBS Evening News

[0:56] can imagine it was an incredible almost
[0:59] surreal scene here in New York City just
[1:01] behind me in the Hudson River a jetliner
[1:04] with more than
[1:05] 10050 people on board actually floating
[1:09] here in the freezing Waters and one by
[1:11] one every one of the passengers and crew
[1:14] was rescued US Airways flight 1549 had
[1:18] just taken off from LaGuardia Airport in
[1:20] Queens for Charlotte North Carolina when
[1:22] it apparently hit a flock of birds
[1:24] knocking out both of the plane's engines
[1:27] even without power though the pilots
[1:29] managed to to maneuver the Airbus A320
[1:32] northward over the Bronx make a sharp
[1:34] turn South then follow the Hudson River
[1:37] alongside Manhattan Island losing
[1:39] altitude along the way and finally
[1:41] coming to rest on the river and then
[1:44] that's when as Randall pingston tells us
[1:46] emergency crews suddenly stepped into
[1:49] action Randall K
