[0:03] Post Christmas sales begin today. Stores

[0:06] will be flooded with shoppers looking

[0:08] for big discounts. CBS News

[0:10] correspondent Sharon Alfons is live from

[0:12] Herald Square here in New York with

[0:14] more. Good morning, Sharon.

[0:17] >> Good morning, Harry. I got to tell you,

[0:18] in a million years, you would never find

[0:20] me up at 6 a.m. shopping. I'd be at home

[0:24] with cereal and coffee getting my day

[0:25] started. But we actually met some people

[0:27] out here this morning that are dressed

[0:29] in the stores and getting their

[0:31] Christmas shopping for next year started

[0:33] right now. Armed with caffeine and

[0:36] courage, shoppers headed to stores

[0:38] before sunrise this morning.

[0:40] >> You've got to get the returns in as

[0:42] quickly as possible. And then you've got

[0:43] to have a real idea in your mind of of

[0:46] what it is you want to do and where you

[0:47] want to get where you want to get to.

[0:49] >> Retailers are hoping deep discounts

[0:51] could lure shoppers back into the stores

[0:53] after a slow shopping season. The brave

[0:56] this morning had battle plans.

[0:58] >> Ornaments first. They have really nice

[1:00] ornaments that you can get really

[1:02] discounted, you know, and uh they have

[1:04] great sales inside the store. You know,

[1:06] >> people would say you're crazy to be

[1:07] shopping the day after Christmas. Oh, I

[1:09] I I think it is a little crazy, but And

[1:12] it's a lot of fun. It's sort of like a

[1:13] one day kind of thing. Sort of like the

[1:15] way guys go to soccer games. We do the

[1:18] day after Christmas. And you get great

[1:20] bargains and then you can save them and

[1:22] stash them away for next year.

[1:25] And so for those ladies, shopping is

[1:27] definitely a sport. And if you're one of

[1:28] those peoples, today could be a good day

[1:30] because there's all kinds of discounts.

[1:32] Um they really are giving things away in

[1:34] the stores. Free gifts, free purchases,

[1:36] um if you buy enough stuff. But you're

[1:38] going to have to brave some long lines

[1:40] if you're going to the mall, in the

[1:41] parking lot, later at the cash register

[1:43] because today also happens to be the

[1:45] biggest day for returns. Harry

[1:47] >> and Sharon, it's not too late to get,

[1:49] you know, a little something for you

[1:51] know who. All right, Sharon Alons live.
