[0:02] good to see you this morning and excited

[0:04] for the word of encouragement today some

[0:07] of you know it's day whatever quarantine

[0:11] or whatever and the people in my house

[0:13] are driving me well no not really but

[0:16] sometimes you can feel that way can't

[0:18] you you can feel overwhelmed by the

[0:20] people that you're having to be

[0:22] quarantined with and usually the number

[0:25] one problem is miscommunication we don't

[0:28] get to talk to one another we talk at

[0:30] each other and sometimes now the kids

[0:33] have been in the house for so long

[0:35] they're driving you up the wall they're

[0:37] making it crazy for you and you're

[0:39] having a difficult time communicating

[0:41] with your spouse and everybody's getting

[0:44] on everybody's nerves but let me help

[0:46] you this morning with a quick devotion

[0:49] dealing with communication the

[0:51] communication means simply the transfer

[0:54] of information it takes two people and

[0:56] it takes the process of information

[0:58] going back and forth but there are some

[1:00] rules to communication and so in there

[1:03] actually found in scripture in Ephesians

[1:05] chapter 4 verses 25 through 29 really

[1:09] you could tie in verse 30 as well but

[1:11] Ephesians 4:25 the Bible says wherefore

[1:14] putting away lying let every man speak

[1:17] speak every man the truth with his

[1:19] neighbor for we are members one of

[1:21] another that first rule is found there

[1:23] in that first verse put away lying speak

[1:26] the truth in other words be honest rule

[1:30] number one for communication is be

[1:32] honest now I know some of you have a

[1:35] gift at being honest we call it being

[1:37] brutally honest as soon as you have a

[1:40] thought you let her fly and sometimes

[1:43] that's not the best way to have your

[1:46] communication one of the one writer put

[1:48] it one way like this to have your

[1:50] communication seasoned with grace

[1:53] seasoned with grace in other words to

[1:55] understand and have some concern meant

[2:00] when it comes to speaking the truth and

[2:02] being brutally honest is not always the

[2:05] best way to speak the truth and so you

[2:08] know if you know you wake up in the

[2:10] morning and you look to your spouse

[2:13] and your spouse has that dragon breath

[2:16] you know what I'm talking about the

[2:18] breath that'll peel the paint off the

[2:19] walls my wife never has that okay she's

[2:23] watching this video I'm gonna get in

[2:24] trouble but no she never has that and so

[2:27] we are but we put away lying weird to

[2:30] keep honesty as part of our

[2:32] communication always be honest if you

[2:34] have a pattern of lying it becomes very

[2:37] difficult for people to trust you so be

[2:39] honest number two the Bible says in

[2:41] verse 26 be angry and sin not let not

[2:45] the Sun go down upon your wrath

[2:47] rule number two when it comes to

[2:48] communication is keep current deal with

[2:52] today's problems today don't let them

[2:55] pile up and build up do with today's

[2:57] problems today so being honest and then

[3:00] keeping current dealing with today's

[3:03] problems today sometimes we're not so

[3:06] good at thing sometimes people have a

[3:09] tendency to keep a filing cabinet of

[3:12] past mistakes and pull it out every time

[3:15] they have a conversation well three

[3:17] years ago you did this and six months

[3:20] ago you said this and last week you said

[3:23] this no no we're not to pull out the

[3:26] filing cabinet of past hurts we are to

[3:29] keep current and let not the Sun go down

[3:32] upon our wrath we're to not go to bed

[3:34] angry

[3:35] but we are to keep current and deal with

[3:38] today's problems today because you're

[3:40] gonna have problems if you're looking

[3:42] for a problem-free life there's more

[3:46] than one person involved in your life

[3:48] it's not going to be problem-free but

[3:50] the Bible tells us as I mentioned

[3:52] Ephesians 4:25 and 26 verse number 27

[3:54] neither give place to the devil neither

[3:58] give place to the devil the reason why

[4:00] that verse is so important as it ties in

[4:03] with the be angry and sin not as well

[4:05] act don't react rule number three act

[4:10] don't react oh how often is it in your

[4:13] conversations your discussions that you

[4:19] start reacting instead of acting they

[4:22] get loud you get louder they get louder

[4:26] you

[4:26] get louder and the reactions begin to

[4:29] happen instead of acting and having your

[4:32] conversation seasoned with grace and

[4:35] understanding that person so act don't

[4:39] react speak kind words be careful how

[4:43] you word things be careful the tone my

[4:46] wife's tells me often it's not the words

[4:49] that you're saying honey it's how you're

[4:52] saying it I'm still learning with our

[4:54] wife and I were gonna celebrate 16 years

[4:57] of marriage here very soon and we're so

[4:59] excited about that but we're still

[5:01] learning we're still getting better at

[5:03] it and learning how to communicate with

[5:06] one another so but I challenge you to be

[5:08] honest keep current act don't react and

[5:12] verse number 29 it says let no corrupt

[5:14] communication proceed out of your mouth

[5:17] but that which is good to the use of

[5:19] edifying that I may Minister grace unto

[5:22] the hears and grieve not the Holy Spirit

[5:24] of God whereby you're sealed into the

[5:26] day of redemption the rule number 4 when

[5:29] it comes to communication is attacking

[5:32] problems not people well the person is

[5:37] the problem well most of the time it's

[5:38] not it's something that person may have

[5:40] done or the way they handle the

[5:42] situation but it's not the individual

[5:45] person so attacking problems not people

[5:49] and so these communication tools can be

[5:52] very helpful in any relationship but

[5:54] especially right now during this time

[5:57] when everybody's quarantined together

[5:59] everybody's on top of one another and it

[6:02] could put a strain on your marriage you

[6:04] could put a wedge between you and one of

[6:06] your children because of not

[6:08] communicating properly and so this

[6:11] morning we want to encourage you to

[6:13] practice the four rules of communication

[6:15] be honest keep current act don't react

[6:20] attack problems not people and again

[6:23] it's his biblical truth this is not just

[6:26] my opinion this is biblical truth that

[6:28] will help you and I and our

[6:30] relationships with other people but I

[6:34] want to tell you what the Lord does for

[6:35] us the Lord is always honest with us

[6:39] sometimes

[6:40] don't like the truth of the Lord is

[6:41] teaching us but the Lord is always

[6:43] honest with us Lord is always current

[6:47] with us he deals with us right now in

[6:50] the moment he's always current with us

[6:53] I'm so thankful that the Lord acts he

[6:56] doesn't react to my sinfulness that he

[6:59] doesn't react in such a way that it

[7:01] would cause harm to my life but he acts

[7:03] and he acts with grace and mercy it's

[7:07] amazing how the Lord acts in our life

[7:09] and I'm very thankful that the Lord

[7:11] attacks problems and not people how many

[7:15] times in our lives would it would be in

[7:17] a terrible place if the Lord attacked

[7:20] people instead of problems my friend let

[7:25] me just leave you with this thought

[7:27] you're quarantined in the house you're

[7:29] gonna have to talk to those people may

[7:32] it be that you put into practice these

[7:34] four rules of communication as a friend

[7:38] of mine once told me at a couple's

[7:39] retreat with all the wives out of the

[7:42] room we were having a guys-only session

[7:45] one gentleman looked at me and been

[7:47] married a lot longer than I had and I

[7:49] said what's the secret and his secret

[7:52] was happy wife happy life well sometimes

[7:58] that's the truth if you can have a happy

[8:00] wife you'll have a happy life so this

[8:03] morning let me tell you what the key to

[8:06] a happy life is communication

[8:09] communication I wish I could tell you

[8:12] that after almost 16 years of marriage

[8:14] that I was great at it I'm not I'm a

[8:17] work in progress how many times my wife

[8:20] and I we love to talk to one another and

[8:22] sometimes you'll look at me and saying

[8:24] you're not getting what I'm saying to

[8:26] you and sometimes I look at her and I

[8:29] say you're not getting what I'm saying

[8:31] to you and the reason why is we

[8:32] communicate on different wavelengths at

[8:35] times but we have to remind ourselves of

[8:37] the four rules of communication so today

[8:39] may you stop and be honest

[8:43] husbands go tell your wife today that

[8:46] you love her

[8:47] thank you for what she does for you and

[8:49] be an encouragement to her today wives

[8:53] let you

[8:54] husband know that you love him you're

[8:56] thankful for him I know sometimes you're

[8:59] he drives you up the wall but you should

[9:02] be thankful for him let him know you're

[9:04] praying for him and you appreciate him

[9:06] children let your parents know you care

[9:09] let them know that you love them that

[9:12] you're thankful for what they do you're

[9:14] thankful that right now they're your

[9:16] school teacher you're thankful right now

[9:18] they're your principal you're thankful

[9:21] for the food that they help provide for

[9:23] you the shelter that they gave you and

[9:26] ultimately the love that they show you

[9:28] but this morning may we all practice the

[9:32] rules of communication to be better

[9:34] children of God again thank you for

[9:37] tuning into our word of encouragement

[9:38] would encourage you tonight seven
