[0:02] it's presumably because you have good
[0:04] enough taste in that thing that you
[0:05] appreciate it and the problem when you
[0:08] start working in the field is that you
[0:10] are terrible and so you look at your own
[0:12] work and you're like this sucks you know
[0:14] because you have good taste and you're
[0:16] not good so it's like the Delta is
[0:18] enormous and it's just constantly
[0:20] frustrating but the interesting thing
[0:21] about that is if you have the good taste
[0:23] you have the barometer to know and
[0:25] evaluate yourself as you continue to
[0:27] work towards getting better and the only
[0:29] way to get better is to just do it in a
[0:31] lot of work and eventually that Gap does
[0:34] start to close eventually when it closes
[0:36] what happens is that you'll do some work
[0:38] and your good taste and the work will be
[0:39] aligned and it will be good but then
[0:42] like I said for me that only lasts for a
[0:44] little bit of time and the longer it
[0:45] last the better the work probably was
[0:47] but if I look at it I'm that's great I
[0:48] go get coffee and I come back and I'm
[0:50] like crap it's terrible it's like it
[0:51] probably wasn't that good to begin with
[0:52] so I think it's not really like a total
[0:54] instate you don't get to a place where
[0:56] it's like the work is objectively good
[0:57] forever my guest today is Alex Cornell
[1:00] director of design at meta AI Alex is
[1:03] one of the best product designers that I
[1:05] ever worked with he helped design
[1:07] Facebook substack linear and an app for
[1:10] family and friends called cocon we
