[0:03] The number one newscast at 6:00 [music]

[0:05] for the people of

[0:06] >> of Hurricane Floyd, a dead zone in the

[0:09] sea.

[0:11] >> We'll take a closer look at the latest

[0:12] challenge of illegal immigration coming

[0:14] in through the back door.

[0:16] And the value of real-life experience,

[0:19] especially when [music] you're 3 million

[0:21] teachers short.

[0:30] >> From ABC News world headquarters in New

[0:32] York,

[0:34] this is World News Tonight with Peter

[0:36] Jennings.

[0:37] >> Good evening. We begin tonight with the

[0:38] most convincing evidence yet that if you

[0:40] are overweight, you are that much more

[0:42] likely to die prematurely. The American

[1:17] population becomes heavier and heavier.

[1:20] So, clearly, we have not translated this

[1:22] message in a way that it is that it has

[1:25] been embraced or used by the American

[1:27] public.

[1:29] >> And just how much weight is considered

[1:31] overweight?

[1:32] For a 5'5" woman, the study found a

[1:35] gradually increasing risk of death began

[1:37] at 150 lb. For a 5'10" man, the risk

[1:41] began at 174 lb.

[1:45] >> That's when the rates start to creep up.

[1:48] So, the more overweight you are
