[0:00] I had Direct p&l responsibility for this
[0:03] business that was now 200 million in
[0:05] revenue and I was doing this at a
[0:07] publicly traded company and so on paper
[0:09] I was doing really well and my boss was
[0:11] telling me what other products could we
[0:13] have you take over since you've done
[0:15] such a great job of this and there's a
[0:16] clear path to becoming a VP and what's
[0:19] interesting about it was while I was
[0:21] doing well on paper I found so much of
[0:25] it draining in terms of the work that I
[0:28] was doing and what do I mean by that
[0:30] look I got into product to talk to
[0:33] customers design world class features I
[0:36] didn't really talk to customers as much
[0:38] I had a whole team of PMS that did that
[0:40] the extent at which I was designing
[0:42] features was product reviews My PMS
[0:45] would present to me various Concepts and
[0:47] I'd provide a little bit of feedback and
[0:49] sure I own the highle vision and
[0:50] strategy but that day-to-day fun that I
[0:53] loved about product I actually did
[0:56] little of I was a p of a product
[0:58] managing and leading more so than I was
[1:01] creating and building and I realized
[1:03] that kind of work didn't sort of
[1:06] energize me and I love the way Justin
[1:08] Khan puts this he talks about this idea
[1:10] of a zone of Excellence versus a zone of
[1:12] Genius he says there's this zone of
[1:14] Excellence that some of us fall into
[1:16] this is work that we're really good at
[1:19] but is actually very draining to us and
[1:21] that's where I was at and what he
[1:23] encourages you to do is find this zone
[1:25] of Genius the zone of Genius is the work
[1:29] that energize IES you that you love and
[1:31] so I realized t
