[0:30] the Northwood shift may be caused by the
[0:33] storms passing over the mountains of
[0:34] Hispaniola and David's previous West
[0:37] Northwest Direction could resume after
[0:39] it crosses Cuba but Dr Neil Frank the
[0:42] director of the National Hurricane
[0:43] Center is concerned about steering
[0:45] currents those high altitude winds that
[0:48] move the storm I was mildly optimistic
[0:50] yesterday because there was no evidence
[0:53] that the steering currents were going to
[0:54] change and it looked like the storm was
[0:56] going to stay just in south of Cuba and
[0:58] then go into the Gulf of Mexico and I
[0:59] don't mean to wish any bad luck on Texas
[1:01] or someplace else like that but it
[1:03] looked like that it was going to go on
[1:04] into the Gulf of Mexico but with the
[1:06] indications to now that today that those
[1:08] steering currents may be changing that
[1:10] certainly heightens Our concern here in
[1:12] Florida and would certainly it ought to
[1:14] heighten the concern up the east coast
[1:15] of the United States last May Newswatch
[1:17] aired a series of special reports called
[1:19] the hurricane of 79. about a fictitious
[1:22] storm that slammed into the south
[1:24] Florida coast on Labor Day weekend the
[1:27] series outlined the serious evacuation
[1:29] problems posed by a quarter of a million
[1:31] people living in immediate coastal areas
[1:33] tied to the mainland by narrow low-lying
[1:36] causeways to make matters worse half the
[1:39] population has never been through a
[1:40] major hurricane it asks the question how
[1:43] would people react well people in public
[1:45] agencies seem to be responding there's
[1:47] been a run on Hurricane supplies and in
[1:50] Tallahassee Sta
