[0:10] thank you
[0:12] good evening this is the CBS News
[0:14] special report I'm Russ Mitchell in New
[0:16] York we are breaking into programming
[0:18] with developing news this from the White
[0:19] House sources tell CBS news that Osama
[0:21] Bin Laden the leader of al-Qaeda is dead
[0:24] and his body is in U.S hands President
[0:26] Obama will speak to the American people
[0:28] in just a few moments but right now
[0:29] let's go to the Pentagon at our national
[0:31] security correspondent David Martin
[0:32] David what are you hearing
[0:34] well uh Russ right now we have two
[0:37] sources from the hill saying that Bin
[0:41] Laden was shot and killed and Stephen
[0:44] Hadley the former National Security
[0:46] adviser for vice for President Bush says
[0:50] he has been authoritatively told by the
[0:52] White House that Bin Laden is dead so
[0:55] certainly all indications are that this
[0:57] announcement by the the president is
[0:59] going to be that after all these years
[1:02] the U.S or somebody has succeeded in
[1:05] killing Osama Bin Laden it is a 10 47
[1:09] eastern time we just got news about an
[1:10] hour ago from the White House the
[1:12] president wanted to speak to the
[1:13] American people obviously this is
[1:14] unusual sources in the White House were
[1:16] telling us initially this was a quote
[1:18] unquote big deal and David this
[1:20] certainly would fall into that category
[1:21] correct
[1:22] it would and it frankly comes as a
[1:25] surprise because for so many years
[1:26] people have said there was no trace of
[1:28] Bin Laden that he had gone absolutely
[1:30] silent communicated only by Courier and
[1:34] somehow uh somebody uh finally got a
[1:38] location on Bin Laden and according to
[1:42] the sources
