[0:01] Next on K 2 News, triple digit heat
[0:04] beats down on the Northwest. How folks
[0:06] are staying cool and how emergency
[0:08] workers are helping to keep them safe.
[0:10] Plus, it was 1 week ago today a plane
[0:13] crashed into four homes during the
[0:15] Oregon Air Show. How victims on the
[0:17] ground are still picking up the pieces
[0:20] and a mother and a sheriff deputy fight
[0:23] for a life-saving device to be put in
[0:25] all public places.
[0:28] >> Live at 5, K 2 News, the spirit of the
[0:32] [music] Northwest.
[0:33] >> Good evening everyone, I'm Anna Song.
[0:35] >> And I'm Dan Tilkin. Tonight's top
[0:36] stories of course the sweltering heat.
[0:38] Temperatures hit the triple digits.
[0:41] >> We have team two coverage. K 2's Joe
[0:42] English is tracking the rising mercury.
[0:44] >> But first we begin with K 2's Derek
[0:46] Skiba who's out along the Sandy River
[0:48] with more on how people are trying to
[0:50] stay cool, Derek.
[0:51] >> Well, you can see all the people out
[0:52] here. It's like a an amusement park out
[0:55] here with all these people, but just
[0:56] about an hour and a half ago lifeguards
[0:58] rescued a man over at Glenn Auto Park.
[1:00] He was apparently having seizures in the
[1:02] water, taken out of the water by
[1:04] lifeguards and then taken to a local
[1:06] hospital. Now days like this one with
[1:08] all this heat and all these people, they
[1:10] strain rescue crews on the scene and
[1:12] they also strain those behind the scenes
[1:15] as well.
[1:19] >> Here at High Rocks in Gladstone.
[1:21] >> Beautiful.
[1:21] >> Good day.
[1:22] >> Beautiful nice water's just right.
[1:25] >> Hundreds of people are jumping out of
[1:27] the heat and into the cool Clackamas
[1:29] River.
[1:30] >> There's butterflies in my stomach.
