[19:50] you the Lord's Place upon my heart well

[19:51] last Sunday in January is going to be

[19:53] our vision Sunday presenting the theme

[19:55] for the year and also in the evening

[19:57] service we'll be having our annual

[19:59] business meeting and getting all the

[20:01] exciting things set up for the year so

[20:03] that'll be the last Sunday and so we'll

[20:05] have a different type messages the first

[20:09] few weeks here but then the last Sunday

[20:11] I'll be presenting the theme for

[20:13] 2025 and excited what God's got in store

[20:16] for us if you're able to stand would you

[20:18] please stand in honor the word of God

[20:19] we're going to read the first 16 verses

[20:23] of John chapter number

[20:25] three verse number one there was a man

[20:27] of the Pharisees named Nicodemus a ruler

[20:31] of the Jews the same came to Jesus by

[20:34] night and said unto him Rabbi we know

[20:36] that thou art a teacher come from God

[20:39] for no man can do these Miracles that

[20:41] thou doest except God be with him Jesus

[20:45] answered and said unto him verily verily

[20:47] I say unto thee except a man be born

[20:50] again he cannot see the kingdom of God

[20:54] Nicodemus saith unto him how can a man

[20:56] be born when he is old

[20:59] can he enter the second time into his

[21:01] mother's womb and be born Jesus answered

[21:04] verily verily I say unto thee except a

[21:07] man be born of water and of the spirit

[21:10] he cannot enter into the kingdom of God

[21:13] that which is born of flesh is flesh and

[21:16] that which is born of the spirit is

[21:19] Spirit Marvel not that I said unto thee

[21:26] where it listeth thou he he the sound

[21:29] thereof but cannot not tell whence it

[21:37] Nicodemus answered and said unto him how

[21:39] can these things be Jesus answered and

[21:42] said unto him art thou a master of

[21:45] Israel and knowest not these things

[21:48] verily verily I say unto thee we speak

[21:50] that we do know and testify that we have

[21:55] seen and you receive not our Witness if

[21:58] I have told you Earthly things and ye

[22:01] believe not how shall ye believe if I

[22:03] tell you of heavenly things and no man

[22:06] hath ascended up to heaven but he that

[22:08] came down from heaven even the son of

[22:11] man which is in heaven and as Moses

[22:13] lifted up the serpent in the wilderness

[22:16] even so must the son of man be lifted up

[22:19] that whosoever believeth in him should

[22:22] not perish but have eternal life would

[22:25] you read verse 16 with me out loud for

[22:28] for God so loved the world that he gave

[22:32] his only begotten son that whosoever

[22:36] believeth in him should not perish but

[22:39] have everlasting life have you been born

[22:44] again have you been born again let's

[22:48] pray de Heavenly Father Lord we're

[22:50] thankful for the opportunity to preach

[22:51] your word today Lord I pray if you would

[22:53] please cleanse me of sin and empty me of

[22:55] myself that I might get out of the way

[22:56] this morning and your word May go forth

[22:59] Lord I pray you'd speak to our hearts

[23:01] challenge us from your word today Lord

[23:02] in your name I pray amen thank you for

[23:04] standing you may be seated looking

[23:07] forward today to talking about being

[23:09] born again and I hope you know a time in

[23:12] your life where you have been born

[23:14] again when you say that to people are

[23:17] like what are you talking about just as

[23:19] Nicodemus said to Jesus what are you

[23:22] talking about how can that be so we want

[23:24] to break down the chapter and exposit it

[23:28] and then we'll get into some application

[23:30] at the end so Nicodemus he's a Pharisee

[23:35] he's a ruler of the

[23:38] Jews as a Pharisee ruler of the Jews

[23:40] Nicodemus is a learned man in the

[23:43] scriptures he knows the more than likely

[23:46] knows the first five books of the Old

[23:48] Testament and is able to quote

[23:51] them he's a religious man with a lot of

[23:56] knowledge he's a he's a man who

[23:59] practices the law he fulfills the law he

[24:04] does everything he can outwardly to be a

[24:08] good

[24:09] person outwardly he is respected by many

[24:14] outwardly he is looked upon as being

[24:17] someone who is right with

[24:22] God but inwardly he's not

[24:26] saved because outward could

[24:28] Conformity does not mean you have inward

[24:33] change just because you look good on the

[24:35] outside just because you came to church

[24:39] this morning doesn't mean that you're

[24:41] saved you must be born

[24:46] again and so he goes on verse two the

[24:49] same came to Jesus by

[24:53] night so he didn't come during the day

[24:55] when everybody else was watching he came

[24:58] by night

[24:59] because I want you to think about that

[25:01] for a minute a religious man who has the

[25:05] knowledge of the scriptures should

[25:09] know that Jesus is more than just a man

[25:13] and a good

[25:14] teacher look what he says about him

[25:17] verse two Rabbi we know that thou art a

[25:20] teacher come from God for no man can do

[25:24] these Miracles except God be what with

[25:28] him he's close but he's not 100%

[25:31] accurate it's not that God's with him

[25:34] it's he is

[25:36] God so Nicodemus he comes to Jesus and

[25:40] he tells him you're a good

[25:42] teacher no man can do these Miracles

[25:44] except God be with him and he's giving

[25:46] him praise and he's saying you're you're

[25:48] a good

[25:49] teacher and Jesus looks at him and he

[25:51] answers him verily verily I say to thee

[25:56] except a man be born again

[25:59] except a man be born

[26:02] again he cannot see the kingdom of

[26:07] God

[26:10] Nicodemus you can be all the religious

[26:12] you want Nicodemus you can go to Temple

[26:15] all you want Nicodemus you can have all

[26:19] the scripture verses memorized that you

[26:20] want but if you haven't been born again

[26:22] Nicodemus you got going to heaven you're

[26:25] not going to see the kingdom of God

[26:28] you must be born

[26:32] again so Jesus emphasizes that to him

[26:35] now after Jesus says that Nicodemus is

[26:38] confused look at verse four Nicodemus

[26:41] saith unto him uh how can a man be born

[26:45] when he is old question mark can he

[26:48] enter the second time into his mother's

[26:50] womb and be born so Nicodemus is only

[26:55] thinking

[26:57] physical he he's not thinking

[27:00] spiritual religious people have a

[27:02] tendency to only focus on the

[27:04] physical not necessarily always the

[27:07] spiritual did I check my box did I do

[27:09] what I was supposed to do did I obey

[27:11] like I was supposed to not because they

[27:13] have a heart of obedience to God but

[27:15] just because they want to be approved or

[27:17] look good in front of

[27:20] others Jesus answered verily verily I

[27:23] say unto thee except a man be born of

[27:25] water and of the spirit he cannot not

[27:28] enter the kingdom of God now this verse

[27:30] causes confusion for some people because

[27:33] they don't take what we call

[27:35] context which is the verse previous and

[27:37] the verse after that helps you to

[27:39] understand what Jesus is saying so what

[27:42] is Jesus saying well look at verse six

[27:44] that which is born of the flesh is flesh

[27:47] and that which is born of the spirit is

[27:50] spirit so he talks about two births the

[27:54] first is water birth that's not baptism

[27:58] baptism does not save

[28:01] you baptism is not what it's talking

[28:04] about water birth here now my wife and I

[28:09] we have five children when we went to

[28:12] the hospital to have our first child her

[28:15] water broke you ever heard that term

[28:17] before her water broke and she went into

[28:21] labor and we had our first child in fact

[28:24] all five of our boys her water broke she

[28:27] gave water birth to to them all physical

[28:29] birth is what he's referencing here with

[28:31] water birth it's a physical birth

[28:34] everybody here's been physically

[28:37] born you're all real

[28:41] people you're all been physically born

[28:44] you all have water

[28:46] birth according to verse five you've

[28:49] been born of

[28:51] water now I want you to notice in verse

[28:53] number

[28:54] five and of the what's the next

[28:58] word Spirit how many of you it's

[29:01] capitalized in your

[29:03] Bible why is that

[29:05] important it references not your

[29:10] spirit but the holy spirit of God and

[29:14] when you get saved the holy spirit of

[29:15] God convicts you of sin draws you to

[29:18] Salvation you accept Jesus as your

[29:21] savior and the Holy Spirit takes

[29:23] residence inside you so it's not a

[29:27] spirit that I have some emotional

[29:30] spiritual

[29:32] experience no it's the holy spirit of

[29:34] God drawing me to Salvation the holy

[29:38] spirit of God convicts me that I'm a

[29:39] sinner the holy spirit of God draws me

[29:42] to Salvation and recognizing that Jesus

[29:44] is the only way to be saved then I

[29:47] believe it in my heart and with my mouth

[29:49] confession is made and then I accept

[29:51] Christ and then the Holy Spirit takes

[29:53] residence inside me some people have had

[29:57] religious

[29:59] experiences and claim it for

[30:01] salvation be

[30:05] careful be

[30:07] careful had a man talked to me one time

[30:09] he was on an aircraft

[30:12] carrier he was on an aircraft carrier in

[30:14] the military and a man at the end of the

[30:17] aircraft carrier had a heart attack and

[30:19] died fell right under the deck of the

[30:21] aircraft carrier this man said that he

[30:24] saw this man's Spirit float up into the

[30:27] sky die and because of that he knew that

[30:31] he needed to be saved and he asked God

[30:35] to save him now this man had no idea

[30:38] what sin was this man had no idea about

[30:40] anything else he had an experience and

[30:43] he said that experience told me I needed

[30:46] God after talking with him for some time

[30:50] he confessed to me he goes I don't know

[30:52] what I did I don't know what I he said I

[30:54] just said God help

[30:59] now some people God works that way and

[31:03] the Holy Spirit of God's conviction

[31:04] falls on them so listen I'm not

[31:07] discounting people's

[31:09] experiences but I am telling you you

[31:11] must be born

[31:14] again and it's by the spirit of God it's

[31:17] not something that Wells up inside you

[31:19] it's not a warm fuzzy feeling that you

[31:21] decide one day I'm want I'm saved now no

[31:23] it doesn't work that way the holy spirit

[31:26] of God convicts us of our need of a

[31:28] savior it convicts us that we are

[31:30] sinners and it draws us to Salvation now

[31:33] look at verse six that which is born of

[31:35] the flesh is flesh that which is born of

[31:37] the capital S spirit is Spirit then he

[31:41] said to Nicodemus Marvel not that I said

[31:43] unto thee ye must be born

[31:51] again Nicodemus you're not marveling

[31:54] that I said you must be born again

[31:58] verse eight the wind bloweth where it

[32:00] listeth and thou hearest the sound

[32:03] thereof but cannot tell from whence it

[32:05] cometh and whether it goeth so is

[32:09] everyone that is born of the

[32:11] spirit in other words the holy spirit of

[32:13] God does its work and you don't

[32:15] necessarily see it

[32:17] coming now some of you this

[32:19] morning you felt the

[32:24] wind some of you saw the effects of the

[32:27] wind as it blew stuff across the

[32:33] street but you didn't see the wind you

[32:37] just saw the effects of the

[32:40] wind and you felt the wind you can't see

[32:44] the Holy

[32:46] Spirit but you can feel the effect of

[32:48] him in your life let let me just go

[32:50] chase a rabbit real quick that's what

[32:52] sometimes they call it for preachers

[32:53] chasing

[32:54] rabbits if you can go go through your

[32:58] life sinning regularly sinning and have

[33:02] no Holy Spirit conviction that it's

[33:05] wrong you need to check on your

[33:09] salvation there's one of two things

[33:11] either one you're not saved and you're

[33:13] pretending to be saved or number two

[33:16] you're saved but you're so far away from

[33:19] God that the Holy Spirit doesn't even

[33:21] convict you of

[33:23] sin either one of those places are

[33:25] really bad places to be in your life

[33:29] either unsaved thinking you're saved or

[33:32] saved and so far away from God that you

[33:34] can sin and it don't bother

[33:37] you

[33:41] now if I set a plate of chocolate chip

[33:45] no we won't do cookies we'll do donuts I

[33:47] have a son named Noah Noah loves Donuts

[33:49] it's his favorite food

[33:51] group it really

[33:53] is if he can find a donut he he will

[33:56] find it if you've hid Donuts somewhere

[33:59] he will find them he's like a donut

[34:01] sniffing Hound he will find where the

[34:03] donuts are

[34:06] at but if I set a plate of donuts in

[34:08] front of Noah and I sat at the table and

[34:10] said Noah you can't have one

[34:13] yet you know what he'll do he'll look at

[34:16] it but he won't have one because Dad's

[34:22] watching now if I set a plate of donuts

[34:24] down and I said no I don't have one and

[34:28] I left the room the temptation to have a

[34:30] donut

[34:33] arises he's looking at the plate of

[34:35] donuts and contemplating in his little

[34:37] heart can I how many's there can I get

[34:41] away with

[34:44] it so all of a sudden he grabs

[34:46] one got chocolate all around his mouth I

[34:50] come here Noah did you have a donut

[34:55] uhuh Noah

[34:58] are you telling me the truth

[35:02] uhuh Noah there's

[35:05] evidence that you're not telling me the

[35:07] truth I'm sorry Daddy I did

[35:10] it because watch when confronted with

[35:13] the truth he gets

[35:15] convicted and in your relationship with

[35:18] God if you can sin and you can

[35:20] participate in sin you can participate

[35:22] and give into temptation after

[35:24] Temptation and it not you don't get

[35:27] convicted when you're confronted with

[35:28] the truth or something wrong in your

[35:31] heart one either you're not saved or

[35:34] number

[35:35] two you're so far removed from God that

[35:38] you're not listening to the convicting

[35:39] voice of God either place is a bad place

[35:43] to be in your relationship with

[35:46] God verse nine Nicodemus answered and

[35:49] said how can these things

[35:53] be Jesus answered and said unto him art

[35:56] thou a master his Israel knowest not

[35:58] these

[36:00] things verily verily I say unto thee we

[36:02] speak that we do know and testify that

[36:04] we have seen and ye receive not our

[36:08] witness so if I have told you Earthly

[36:11] things and you believe not how shall you

[36:13] believe if I tell you of heavenly things

[36:16] and no man that hath ascended up to

[36:17] heaven but he that came down from heaven

[36:19] even the son of man which is in heaven

[36:23] then he gives him an illustration he

[36:25] says as Moses lifted up the serpent in

[36:26] the wilderness

[36:28] even so must the son of man be lifted up

[36:33] in the book of Exodus the nation of

[36:35] Israel was in the wilderness wanderings

[36:37] and because they're murmuring and

[36:38] complaining God sent fiery serpents into

[36:40] the land and they all got bit many of

[36:43] them got bit by the fiery

[36:45] Serpent and God instructed Moses to take

[36:48] a serpent and put a Brazen serpent on a

[36:52] pole and lifted up in the middle of the

[36:55] camp and all the people had to do was

[36:57] look and they would be spared from the

[37:00] bite of the snake now the serpent on the

[37:04] pole had no special

[37:06] power it was putting faith that God said

[37:12] look and if they trusted God and

[37:17] looked they could be

[37:19] healed so Jesus uses that example that

[37:22] Nicodemus was very familiar with says as

[37:26] Moses lifted up The Serpent and the

[37:27] Wilderness even so must the son of man

[37:30] be lifted up that whosoever believeth in

[37:32] him should not perish but have eternal

[37:36] life so he's saying that all right I

[37:38] want you to understand this

[37:40] Nicodemus the son of man which is

[37:42] referencing himself is going to be

[37:45] lifted up where's he going to be lifted

[37:47] up on the

[37:49] cross why is he going to be lifted up on

[37:51] the cross that whosoever believeth in

[37:53] him should not perish but have

[37:57] eternal

[38:00] life he's going to die on the cross

[38:03] lifted up on the cross so you can have

[38:06] eternal life the Cross isn't the special

[38:09] thing it's the faith in the man on the

[38:13] cross why would he do

[38:16] that why would the son of man die on the

[38:20] cross verse

[38:22] 16 for

[38:24] God so loved the

[38:28] world that he gave his only begotten son

[38:34] that whosoever believeth in him should

[42:36] possible that somebody else can attend

[42:48] lost it's possible how do you know if
