[0:00] Ah, maybe two.

[0:06] >> Tonight, a fire department says they're

[0:08] ready for anything. How this new energy

[0:10] source could help them save your home.

[0:13] Plus, two bodies laying on the side of

[0:16] Highway 26 leave neighbors shocked.

[0:18] >> It's kind of scary. It's

[0:22] It's really weird, you know, not knowing

[0:24] who or what or when.

[0:26] >> Why deputies are having trouble piecing

[0:28] clues together. But first, the rain

[0:31] keeps pouring down and it's already

[0:33] causing problems.

[0:35] >> Destroyed all the furniture, all of our

[0:36] belongings. I mean, it's I don't know

[0:39] what's going to where we're going to go

[0:41] from here.

[0:41] >> Team coverage of our November rain is

[0:43] first on Fox.

[0:46] >> Live from Fox 12 Oregon. This is

[0:49] breaking news.

[0:50] >> And we do begin tonight with breaking

[0:52] news as an earthquake hit near Portland

[0:54] just minutes ago. The magnitude 2.7

[0:56] quake was centered about two miles wests

[0:58] southwest of Portland. Our newsroom was

[1:00] just flooded with calls from people

[1:02] saying that they felt the quake.

[1:03] >> Viewers from Lake Oiggo to Milwaukee say

[1:05] it was a quick jolt, but it was powerful

[1:07] enough for them to take notice. So far,

[1:09] there are no reports of any damage.

[1:11] >> Also, more breaking news tonight.

[1:12] Portland firefighters are on the scene

[1:14] of a house fire right now. It all

[1:16] started about an hour ago at 4930

[1:18] Northwest Cornell Road in Portland.

[1:20] Officials say they've had some trouble

[1:22] getting to the fire because of the rain.

[1:24] We will have the latest information on

[1:26] both of these breaking news stories as

[1:28] we learn more. Weather is causing plenty

[1:30] of problems tonight. Heavy rain started

[1:32] yesterday and have continued today. The

[1:34] weather caused big backups on major

[1:36] highways as slick roads have made for

[1:39] dangerous driving and for some it's

[1:41] hurting their homes. We have live team

[1:43] coverage tonight. Fox 12 meteorologist

[1:45] Drew Jackson is tracking where the

[1:46] heaviest rain is falling right now. But

[1:48] we start tonight with KPTV's Jim Hyde

[1:50] who's live in Fairview. Jim.

[1:51] >> Well, Hillary, the rain is threatening

[1:53] to get heavy again here in Fairview.

[1:55] Since the wind and rain first stopped

[1:57] the new roof project here at the

[1:58] Columbia Village Apartments on

[2:00] Wednesday, folks have watched their

[2:02] belongings be destroyed by the water.

[2:04] We'll talk with them in a moment, but

[2:05] first, traffic accidents on the wet

[2:08] roads.

[2:11] A half dozen cars collided on Highway 26

[2:14] eastbound between the tunnel and the zoo

[2:16] exit. The pileup closed traffic toward

[2:18] downtown Portland starting about 5 this

[2:21] evening. Took an hour and a half to

[2:23] reopen all lanes. Another accident after

[2:26] 700 p.m. at about the same spot west of

[2:29] the tunnel on Highway 26 clogged it

[2:31] again. Police say no one was hurt. About

[2:34] 7:00, a jack knife semi at I 205 and

[2:37] Highway 213 southbound closed the three

[2:40] inside lanes. Rain apparently

[2:43] contributed to all three accidents. This

[2:46] is my son's bed.

[2:47] >> At the Columbia Village in Fair View,

[2:49] rain continues to damage apartments,

[2:51] including Lahi Cobburn's place. The unit

[2:54] she shares with Josh Schmid and his two

[2:56] children is worse off tonight than when

[2:58] they left on Friday.

[3:00] >> When we left, we covered up all her

[3:01] belongings to make sure to protect from

[3:03] the water damage.

[3:04] >> Since then, the ceilings are collapsing

[3:06] and water spits out when you walk on the

[3:08] soden carpet. And they are not alone.

[3:10] >> We've got stuff coming down. And we got

[3:12] water dripping everywhere and it's it's

[3:14] just garbage.

[3:15] >> The renters and apartment manager say

[3:17] the old roof was removed last week and

[3:20] work on the new one halted by heavy rain

[3:22] and wind on Wednesday. The plastic

[3:25] sheeting and efforts by the roofing

[3:27] contractor to complete the work have not

[3:29] been enough.

[3:30] >> As far as property damage, what we're

[3:32] going to do, moving expenses, that sort

[3:34] of thing, I have I have no idea. Now,

[3:36] the idea that needs to be developed in

[3:38] Fairview tonight, how to create a water

[3:40] repellent roof in a driving rain.

[3:43] Reporting live in Fairview, Jim Hyde,

[3:45] the 10:00 news.

[3:47] >> And the rain isn't letting up in many

[3:48] areas tonight. Fox 12 meteorologist Drew

[3:50] Jackson joins us to show us who's seeing

[3:52] the most rain right now. Drew.

[3:54] >> Portland North. That's who's seeing the

[3:55] heavy rain right now. Look at Kelso Long

[3:57] View under the bullseye of some very

[3:58] heavy rain. But notice south of Portland

[4:00] getting a break. The trend has been for

[4:02] this to lift to the north here over the

[4:04] evening. And I think that's a trend

[4:06] that's going to continue at least for

[4:07] the next few hours. We'll zoom in closer

[4:09] here to Clark County. You can see a lot

[4:11] of Clark County now just recently drying

[4:13] out, but up towards Battleground still

[4:14] raining. Woodland, Washington, Prescuit,

[4:16] Long View, out into the coast range of

[4:18] Oregon. Raining heavily right now. And

[4:20] look at the winds along the coast. These

[4:22] are sustained winds at the moment. Gusts

[4:24] are exceeding 50 mph in many cases.

[4:27] Farther south, the rain has lit up a

[4:29] bit, but the wind still continues along

[4:30] the coast. And there is a high wind

[4:32] warning in effect for the coast tonight

[4:33] and tomorrow. Check out the other

[4:35] weather advisories we have in effect.

[4:37] All of western Oregon, western

[4:38] Washington under a flood watch. And of

[4:40] course, that high wind warning continues

[4:42] for the coast and the coast range

[4:44] through tomorrow. When will this rain

[4:45] let up and when will we get the heaviest

[4:47] rain in Portland? Details about that

[4:48] later on.

[4:49] >> Drew, thanks. And stay tuned to Fox 12

[4:51] for continuing coverage of the November

[4:52] rains. We'll have a full forecast later

[4:54] on in this newscast and the latest

[4:55] updates tomorrow morning on Good Day

[4:56] Oregon. And don't forget, you can always

[4:58] check the forecast anytime on our

[5:00] website, kptv.com.

[5:02] >> In other news tonight, for the second

[5:04] time in three days, Washington County

[5:06] detectives are investigating a multiple

[5:08] murder. The bodies of two men were found

[5:10] this morning at the end of a driveway on

[5:12] Highway 26. KTV's Deborah Gil is live

[5:14] there with the latest from the Fox 12

[5:16] mobile newsroom. AB Hillary. At this

[5:18] hour, detectives do not believe the

[5:20] bodies found this morning are in any way

[5:23] connected to the mother and her two sons

[5:25] found shot to death in their Bethany

[5:27] home on Friday. But still tonight,

[5:29] detectives are looking for clues as to

[5:31] who these men are and how they died.

[5:36] Tonight, the crime scene is cleared on

[5:38] Highway 26 in northwestern Washington

[5:40] County, but neighbors are still shaken

[5:42] by the discovery of two bodies nearby.

[5:45] >> A little bit. Yeah, especially having

[5:47] two on your doorstep. Not something you

[5:49] uh wake up to every day.

[5:50] >> Deputies say someone driving by who had

[5:53] pulled off the side of the highway first

[5:55] noticed the bodies in a ditch by the

[5:56] road and called 911. Just after state

[5:59] police got the call, John and Judy Neely

[6:02] were headed into town to run some

[6:03] errands.

[6:04] >> And then all of a sudden, we saw lots of

[6:05] lots of highway patrols just lights and

[6:07] siren zipping up there. and we thought

[6:10] maybe we better turn around and go back

[6:11] home cuz this is not normal.

[6:15] >> Deputies say the murder victims were

[6:16] white middle-aged men. The Neies

[6:19] instantly became concerned about their

[6:21] neighbor who owns the property where the

[6:22] bodies were found.

[6:24] >> My wife called Mr. Cubic and said, "Are

[6:26] you okay?" Well, he we just woke him up

[6:29] and he said, "Yeah, what's going on?" He

[6:30] says, "Well, you have a lot of activity

[6:32] going on at the end of your driveway.

[6:33] You need to walk down there." Once they

[6:35] realized their neighbor was okay, the

[6:36] Neies decided to leave again, but

[6:38] started seeing bloody clothing on the

[6:40] road.

[6:41] >> I says, "John, there's a bloody towel in

[6:43] the road." And

[6:46] as we kept going, there was stuff in the

[6:48] road, like somebody thrown stuff out of

[6:49] their car.

[6:50] >> Detectives had the westbound lane of

[6:52] Highway 26 closed for much of the day as

[6:54] they collected the evidence and looked

[6:56] for clues. Neighbors are anxious for

[6:58] answers to come out,

[6:59] >> but things like that just don't happen

[7:01] out here.

[7:03] Detectives will wait for an autopsy to

[7:05] determine how the men died and hopefully

[7:07] give them clues as to who the men are.

[7:09] They are asking for any witnesses to

[7:10] come forward. Someone who may have seen

[7:12] something suspicious on Highway 26

[7:14] between Manning and the Sunset Tunnel

[7:16] either late last night or early this

[7:18] morning. Reporting live tonight in the

[7:19] Fox 12 mobile newsroom, Deborah Gil, the

[7:21] 10:00 news.

[7:22] >> Well, it has been a busy weekend for

[7:24] Washington County deputies.

[7:25] Investigators are still looking for

[7:26] clues in a triple murder Deborah

[7:28] mentioned earlier. Melody Deng and her

[7:30] two sons, 12-year-old Jimmy and

[7:31] 16-year-old Steven, were found shot to

[7:33] death early Friday morning in their

[7:35] house on Northwest Telshshire Terrace

[7:36] and Bethany Boulevard. Investigators

[7:38] have assigned a deputy to take a look at

[7:40] the boy's MySpace pages for any clues.

[7:42] Deputies haven't identified a suspect or

[7:44] a motive, but they don't believe the

[7:46] public is in danger because they say

[7:48] they feel the killer is someone who knew

[7:49] the dangs and was only targeting them.

[7:52] Well, tonight we're learning new details

[7:53] about a Gresham murder case that's left

[7:55] one brother dead and the other in jail.

[7:58] Police say Casey French shot his older

[8:00] brother Austin to death last week.

[8:01] According to court documents, Casey told

[8:03] police he killed his brother because he

[8:05] planned to steal money and drugs from

[8:07] him. A family friend sent Fox 12 new

[8:09] photos of Austin. Investigators say

[8:12] Casey had been living with Austin and

[8:13] Austin's fiance for about a year.

[8:18] Fox 12's most wanted tonight is someone

[8:20] who stabbed an Aloa man several times in

[8:23] the chest and took off. Washington

[8:25] County deputies were called to an

[8:26] apartment complex on Southwest Heritage

[8:28] Court around 6:30 this evening.

[8:30] Paramedics took the man to the Emanuel

[8:32] Trauma Center where he is in serious

[8:34] condition. A dog was brought to the

[8:36] scene to track down the attacker but

[8:37] didn't find anyone. Deputies are now

[8:39] waiting for the victim to get out of

[8:41] surgery so they can get more details.

[8:44] The Kaiser Police Department was flooded

[8:46] with calls reporting car vandalism this

[8:48] morning. And tonight, those responsible

[8:49] for the damage are also Fox 12's most

[8:52] wanted. Officers were called to

[8:53] investigate one of the cars around 8:00

[8:55] this morning in the Gubster

[8:57] neighborhood. Shortly after that first

[8:59] report came in, more victims in the

[9:00] neighborhood realized that their cars

[9:02] had too been smashed up. At last count,

[9:04] police say 18 cars were damaged, most

[9:07] with broken windshields or rear windows.

[9:09] The drivers whose cars were targeted say

[9:11] what might be a night of fun for the

[9:12] vandals ends up costing them their

[9:14] paychecks and their sense of security.

[9:17] >> I think they should have to pay to

[9:19] replace everybody's windows. I would

[9:21] hope that whoever did this

[9:24] realizes what they did and makes some

[9:26] changes in their lives.

[9:28] This, you know, we we all live in the

[9:30] same community.

[9:32] >> Authorities say in all damages, they're

[9:34] estimated to be around $7,000. If you

[9:37] have any information about this case,

[9:38] call Kaiser police.

[9:40] >> A homeowner in Albany is facing a major

[9:42] remodeling project tonight after a train

[9:44] tipped over and fell on his house. The

[9:46] accident happened around 7:00 this

[9:48] morning near Southeast 6th Street. Eight

[9:50] empty lumber cars derailed, hit the

[9:52] home, and crushed part of a minivan. The

[9:55] train cars are owned by Pacific and

[9:56] Wamtt. No one was hurt in the ordeal,

[9:58] but people nearby not only heard the

[10:00] derailment, they felt it.

[10:03] >> The train just kind of went thud thud,

[10:06] crash, and it cracked the corner of the

[10:09] house. And I was only staying the night,

[10:11] so this was kind of awkward.

[10:14] >> I bet. Awkward indeed. The city building

[10:15] official inspected the home that the

[10:17] train hit and said it was structurally

[10:19] sound. Crews temporarily evacuated six

[10:21] other homes because the train also hit

[10:23] some power lines. Investigators are

[10:25] still trying to figure out what caused

[10:26] the the derailment.

[10:28] >> A North Portland house fire killed one

[10:30] man and hurt another early this morning.

[10:32] Neighbor Brian Olsen ran to the house

[10:34] and started screaming after noticing

[10:36] smoke while walking on North Portsmith.

[10:38] One man in the house woke up and jumped

[10:40] out of the window to safety, but thick

[10:42] smoke stopped Olsen from getting a

[10:44] second man out.

[10:46] >> No, I heard him though. I heard him

[10:47] screaming for help and no one could get

[10:51] to him at that point.

[10:52] >> The 47year-old man later died at Emanuel

[10:55] Hospital. The 42-year-old who survived

[10:57] was treated for cuts and bruises.

[10:59] Authorities say candles likely started

[11:01] that fire. The men staying at the house

[11:03] had no heat or electricity. A Beaverton

[11:06] hiker is safe tonight after getting lost

[11:08] and spending a wet night in the Columbia

[11:10] River Gorge. Alexi Cherenko came

[11:13] disoriented after picking mushrooms on

[11:15] Large Mountain yesterday and couldn't

[11:17] find his way out of the forest. Rescue

[11:19] crews found him on a logging road around

[11:20] 8:00 this morning about 7 miles from

[11:23] where he was last seen. More than 30

[11:25] rescue workers searched for the hiker

[11:27] overnight. The Multma County Sheriff's

[11:29] Office says he was wet and cold, but is

[11:31] expected to be okay.

[11:33] The 10:00 news is just getting started.

[11:36] >> Sentenced to death, but the trial of

[11:38] Saddam Hussein may be far from over and

[11:40] experts say it could mean new problems

[11:42] for the US.

[11:44] >> He said, "I I really believe in helping

[11:45] people. I think a lot of people live in

[11:48] disadvantaged places and I think I can

[11:50] make a difference."

[11:51] >> A mother overcome with emotion as

[11:53] hundreds gather to honor her son. More

[11:55] on his sacrifice for the war on terror

[11:57] coming up.

[11:58] >> Plus, it's being called Plaid Collar

[12:01] Crime. Why farms are being burglarized

[12:03] in record numbers and what it could cost

[12:05] you.

[12:06] >> Charlie comes clean. What the actor is

[12:08] saying about his ugly divorce and his

[12:10] soon to be ex. That's coming up in the

[12:12] Hollywood Buzz.

[12:14] >> You're watching the 10:00 news first

[12:16] live local.

[12:22] but you can beat the backup Monday

[12:24] morning with First Live Local Weather

[12:26] and Traffic tomorrow starting at 5 on

[12:28] Good Day Oregon.

[12:31] You can't tell by the way I used my

[12:33] walk.

[12:34] No time to talk in the world. I' been

[12:39] around since I was born. It's all right.

[12:42] It's okay. You may look the other way.

[12:46] >> We believe that by seeing you when

[12:48] you're healthy,

[12:49] >> we can help keep you that way.

[13:31] >> Sentenced to death, but Saddam

[13:33] supporters promise to make Americans

[13:34] pay. Details on a possible backlash on

[13:37] the 10:00 news first live local.

[13:41] >> Man, this thing is smunchy.

[13:42] >> Smunchy.

[13:43] >> Soft, melty, crunchy. It's smunchy.

[13:45] >> I'm thinking graffeli crunchy soft

[13:47] melty.

[13:47] >> No, it's more crunchy. Chewy cheesy

[13:50] crunchy.

[13:52] >> Nice.

[13:52] >> I know. Knuckle me. Thank

[13:54] >> Oh, okay.

[13:56] Taco Bell's Cheesy Gordita Crunch. Warm

[13:58] flatbread covered in three melted

[13:59] cheeses wrapped around a crunchy taco

[14:01] and topped with a zesty pepper jack

[14:03] sauce. It's a textural taste sensation.

[14:06] To get crunchy, chewy, and cheesy, think

[14:08] outside the bun.

[14:11] He brought our schools back from the

[14:12] worst funding crisis in decades, moved

[14:15] millions of dollars from administrative

[14:17] overhead into the classroom, and

[14:18] increase college scholarships 30%. Ted

[14:21] Kolangoski. Nobody fights harder to

[14:24] improve our schools. His education

[14:26] enterprise plan will mean smaller class

[14:28] sizes, better teacher training, and

[14:30] up-to-date textbooks. And it'll finally

[14:33] guarantee stable funding for schools.

[14:35] Ted Kolenoski. Other politicians get

[14:38] more attention, but no governor gets

[14:40] more done. Fox Monday. One brother has

[14:44] been captured and destiny brings two

[14:46] lives together again.

[14:48] >> Hello, sir.

[14:49] >> All new Prison Break, then at 9:00. It's

[14:51] the wildest courtroom defense yet.

[14:53] >> Sharks didn't kill a Ron,

[14:55] >> but they ate half of them.

[14:56] >> All new justice after Prison Break,

[14:58] Monday at 8 on Fox 12 Oregon.

[15:05] >> In the fight for Iraq tonight, former

[15:07] Iraqi President Saddam Hussein has been

[15:09] sentenced to death by hanging.

[15:12] >> The court has

[15:16] sentenced the defendant Saddam Hussein

[15:18] al- Majid.

[15:26] by hanging. Long live the people down

[15:29] with the traitors.

[15:31] >> Now, Hussein can appeal his sentence,

[15:33] but after his appeals are exhausted, he

[15:35] will ultimately face death within 30

[15:37] days. Hussein and his seven codefendants

[15:39] heard their fate early this morning.

[15:41] They were on trial for the execution of

[15:43] 148 people.

[15:47] Saddam Hussein's fellow Sunnis paraded

[15:49] through his hometown protesting the

[15:51] verdict. His chief lawyer says the

[15:53] former Iraqi leader wants Iraqis and the

[15:55] world to know he rejects the current

[15:57] violence in Iraq. Just before the

[15:59] verdict was read, he also said the US

[16:01] will be defeated, not him.

[16:03] >> And President Bush shared his thoughts

[16:05] on today's sentencing. He says the

[16:06] verdict means victory for Iraqi people,

[16:08] Saddam's victims, and the Iraqi

[16:10] government.

[16:12] Yet history will record today's judgment

[16:15] as an important achievement

[16:17] on the path to a free and just and

[16:20] unified society.

[16:22] >> President promised to support unity

[16:24] within the Iraqi government. Meanwhile,

[16:26] Democrats promised to make changes in

[16:27] the war in Iraq if they take control of

[16:29] Congress after Tuesday's elections.

[16:34] He volunteered to fight in the war on

[16:36] terror, not once, but twice. And today,

[16:38] an Oregon soldier who was killed in

[16:39] Afghanistan was honored for that

[16:41] commitment. Family and friends paid

[16:43] tribute to Staff Sergeant Robert Paul at

[16:45] an emotional service in the Dallas

[16:47] today.

[16:48] >> What started out as an ordinary day for

[16:51] me and my family

[16:54] became a day of infinite sadness and

[16:56] grief.

[16:57] >> The day was September 8th. Esther Paul

[17:00] got word that her son, Staff Sergeant

[17:02] Robert Paul, had died in the line of

[17:04] duty. But at a memorial service in the

[17:06] Dallas today, Paul tried to focus on the

[17:08] better times. A boy who loved baseball

[17:10] served as a boy scout and watched movies

[17:13] with a box of hats nearby.

[17:15] >> If it was a cowboy movie, he put on a

[17:16] cowboy hat. And if it was an Indian

[17:19] movie, he put on the Indian headdress.

[17:22] Navy cap, helmet, fatigue hat. He was

[17:25] just switching the hats.

[17:27] >> Through the years, Bobby Paul wore many

[17:29] hats. One of them a volunteer with the

[17:32] Peace Corps in Kenya. and he said, "I I

[17:34] really believe in helping people. I

[17:35] think a lot of people live in

[17:37] disadvantaged places and I think I can

[17:40] make a difference." And I said, "I

[17:41] really don't want you to go."

[17:43] >> And eventually that desire to help led

[17:45] Robert Paul to the military. As an Army

[17:47] reser, Paul first went to Iraq. He

[17:49] returned home but left again for

[17:51] Afghanistan.

[17:52] >> I asked him, "Was there anybody that I

[17:55] could call to get him out of it?" And uh

[17:58] he said, "But you don't understand. I

[18:01] want to go.

[18:03] >> Paul and a fellow soldier were killed

[18:05] when a car bomber hit their Humvee.

[18:07] Esther Paul says Bobby died doing what

[18:09] he believed in and at the end of today's

[18:11] service referred to a card written by a

[18:14] close family friend.

[18:15] >> She said

[18:17] Bobby was a very beautiful baby and now

[18:20] he's a very beautiful angel

[18:23] and that's how I'm going to remember

[18:26] him.

[18:28] Paul and his wife lived in the Dallas.

[18:31] He worked in land use planning for the

[18:33] city and for Wasco County.

[18:38] >> Your vote 2006 is just 2 days away. It's

[18:40] too late now for you to mail in your

[18:42] ballot. So, make sure you drop it off by

[18:44] 8:00 Tuesday night. Now, let's take a

[18:46] look at how many votes have already been

[18:48] counted in the Portland area. In Multma

[18:51] County, more than 138,000 ballots have

[18:53] come in. That's 35% of registered voters

[18:56] in that county. In Washington County,

[18:58] more than 70,000 registered voters have

[19:00] sent in ballots. That's 28% there. And

[19:02] in Clackamus County, more than 84,000

[19:05] votes have been counted. That's 40%.

[19:11] In tonight's Real Teen Report, a real

[19:12] look at why young people avoid voting.

[19:15] But while teens may not be running to

[19:16] the ballot box, one local group is

[19:18] trying something new to turn things

[19:19] around. KPTV's Austin Reed reports.

[19:23] >> Because the youth vote really is the

[19:25] future. That's why the Oregon Student

[19:26] Association has been working long days

[19:29] and nights over the past few months

[19:31] registering 18-year-olds. The group is

[19:33] based out of Portland State University

[19:35] and organizes onampus voter registration

[19:38] drives, area school visits, and now

[19:40] myspace.com promotions.

[19:42] >> It's another avenue um that the Oregon

[19:44] Student Association has taken in terms

[19:46] of uh getting out the vote and

[19:49] communicating with students. This year,

[19:51] the group decided to use MySpace to

[19:53] remind young people how important it is

[19:55] to vote. The student association's goal

[19:57] is to register more than 30,000 teens.

[20:00] We talked with 18-year-olds who are

[20:02] voting for the first time.

[20:03] >> It was kind of hard to understand a lot

[20:05] of the measures. It was it was a bit

[20:07] overwhelming,

[20:07] >> a little bit confused, too, cuz you

[20:09] know, it's big thing.

[20:10] >> But with the confusion comes a

[20:12] responsibility.

[20:13] >> When I turn 18, there's not, you know,

[20:15] what can you do? Buy cigarettes. I mean,

[20:17] I'm not really into that and voting is

[20:18] something I can really do. Um, also, um,

[20:22] I mean, I really want to be able to have

[20:24] a say in what goes on.

[20:25] >> And with just a few days left until

[20:27] election day, the Oregon Student

[20:29] Association plans on doing what it has

[20:31] for years.

[20:32] >> On the ground, talking with students

[20:34] one-on-one is always going to be the

[20:36] best method.

[20:37] >> And for more information on the Oregon

[20:38] Student Association, just head to our

[20:40] website, the address, kptv.com, and

[20:44] Newsroom, Austin Reed, the 10:00 news.

[20:47] And organizers with another local group

[20:49] tell me they too are having success with

[20:50] young voters. The bus project has

[20:52] registered 20,000 young people this

[20:54] year. Well, stay tuned to Fox 12 for all

[29:39] >> Bad news at the pump tonight. After four

[29:41] months of declining, gas prices are

[29:44] beginning to stabilize. Since early

[29:46] August, prices nationwide have steadily

[29:48] declined almost a dollar from 303. As

[29:51] prices even out, the national average

[29:52] for a gallon of regular today is 220.

[29:55] The Portland average today is 230. The

[29:58] cheapest gas we could find in the

[29:59] Portland area was 221. This was at both

[30:02] the Hillsboro Costos and in Scapuse,

[30:05] also at Fred Meyer. To find the cheapest

[30:07] gas in our area, check our website,

[30:09] kptv.com,

[30:11] and click on Pump Patrol.

[30:12] >> Well, they're known for saving lives,

[30:14] but a Hillsboro Fire Station may also be

[30:16] known for saving power. The agency is

[30:17] using a new way to keep the lights on,

[30:19] and it's a technology that could be

[30:21] powering your home in the near future.

[30:23] KPTV's Jim Hyde has the story.

[30:27] Fire engines and emergency crews would

[30:29] not know where to go nor report what

[30:31] they find if the Ronler Acres fire

[30:34] station goes dark. Like many others,

[30:36] this outpost uses a diesel-powered

[30:38] backup generator. Now, it also has a

[30:41] cleaner, quieter alternative.

[30:43] >> Inside, we have four bottles.

[30:45] >> The hydrogen fuel is delivered in

[30:46] pressurized bottles. The cell itself is

[30:49] a cabinet size contraption that can

[30:51] provide 5,000 watts of power to the

[30:53] station. This allows the fuel cell to

[30:55] run for 6 hours uninterrupted. A fuel

[30:58] cell, like any energy conversion device,

[31:00] is only limited by the amount of fuels.

[31:02] >> Fuel cells use a controlled chemical

[31:04] reaction combining hydrogen and oxygen

[31:06] to produce electricity.

[31:08] >> And the only emissions are a little bit

[31:09] of water and a little bit of heat. So,

[31:11] it's really terrific for an urban

[31:13] application where noise is a concern or

[31:15] pollution is a concern.

[31:16] >> The concept appeals to the neighbors.

[31:18] People have been using generators and

[31:20] things like that, you know, gas powered

[31:22] generators for years. And if hydrogen's

[31:24] a better way to go, then I can see it.

[31:27] >> The fire station must be able to keep on

[31:29] top of breaking events.

[31:31] >> We'll have power uh lights to the uh to

[31:34] the room, be able to operate our ham

[31:36] radio equipment.

[31:37] >> Stationary fuel cells like this are

[31:39] useful now. Hydrogen power promoters say

[31:42] using them in homes and vehicles seems

[31:45] promising.

[31:45] >> I think hydrogen's the wave of the

[31:47] future. I think uh you know from cars to

[31:49] everything is going to be something

[31:51] that's that's a viable source of uh of

[31:53] energy that we need to really tap into.

[31:55] >> The price and delivery of the hydrogen

[31:57] fuel and the investment and availability

[32:00] of the equipment make it more expensive

[32:02] than fossil fuels today. But those who

[32:04] believe in the concept say cost and

[32:07] benefits will become closer and more

[32:09] popular in the next decade. In

[32:11] Hillsboro, Jim Hyde, the 10:00 news.

[32:14] Well, promoters of hydrogen fuel cells

[32:16] say they are counting on incentives like

[32:17] the states state's business energy tax

[32:20] credit program to help fuel consumers.

[32:27] >> And meteorologist Drew Jackson is back

[32:29] with us now. A fun day for you.

[32:31] >> Yeah, lots of rain falling out there.

[32:32] It's actually only going to get heavier

[32:34] later tomorrow. So, I think the worst of

[32:35] it Monday night into Tuesday morning.

[32:37] Starting to get a little bit of an ease

[32:38] off now, though. You can see it on live

[32:40] radar. And from Portland South, getting

[32:42] a temporary break. I'm not sure exactly

[32:44] how long this break might last. Maybe a

[32:46] couple hours as it looks like the whole

[32:49] area of heavy rain is lifting farther to

[32:50] the north. So, right now, some light

[32:52] showers falling in Washington County

[32:54] west side out towards Beaverton and even

[32:56] point south. But east of I5, not much

[32:58] happening up north. That's where all the

[33:00] rain is right now from in the coast

[33:02] range. Veronia out towards Woodland up

[33:04] I5 towards Long View and Kelso and

[33:06] Castle Rock and then farther towards the

[33:08] west north Oregon coast where it's quite

[33:09] windy as well. Atoria seaside down to

[33:11] Canon Beach getting the rain. It looks

[33:13] like just south of Tieuk is the line

[33:15] right now of where it's raining

[33:16] steadily. Points north getting the

[33:18] steady rain. Points south just some

[33:20] lighter showers. All right, let's show

[33:21] you the wider view of the radar from 12

[33:24] hours ago. I'll advance this to the

[33:26] present. And you can see it's mostly a

[33:28] northwest Oregon, western Washington

[33:30] thing with some stuff falling east of

[33:32] the Cascades as well. But the bulk of

[33:34] the rain tonight, western Washington and

[33:35] the extreme northwest corner of Oregon.

[33:38] Now, as we go through the night tonight,

[33:39] the area of heavy rain stays up in this

[33:41] area. Here's Portland. We're right on

[33:42] the edge through tomorrow morning. We're

[33:44] still right on the edge during the day

[33:46] tomorrow, but then in the evening, this

[33:48] whole mess of heavy rain will shift

[33:50] farther south. So, tomorrow evening

[33:52] about this time, we'll be under the

[33:53] bullseye of the heavy rain. And then

[33:55] during tomorrow night into Tuesday

[33:56] morning, it sinks a little farther south

[33:58] and we start to get out of it. On the

[33:59] satellite picture, this is what's going

[34:01] on. and the source of all this water way

[34:03] down in the tropics. You can see this

[34:05] pipeline of moisture, kind of a fire

[34:06] hose effect, if you will. And this is

[34:08] the classic pineapple express pattern

[34:10] where we get all this rain coming out of

[34:12] the tropics. And we will continue to see

[34:14] that pineapple express pattern for the

[34:16] next couple days. And with that, very

[34:18] mild temperatures. 63 at PDX, 63 Salem,

[34:21] upper 50s along the coast. Even central

[34:23] and eastern Oregon, very mild in the

[34:25] 50s. These temperatures are not going to

[34:27] fall off much tonight. Look at the

[34:28] rainfall totals. 4:00 yesterday, 4:00

[34:31] today, more than 2 in down at North

[34:33] Bend, nearly 2 in at Newport. Farther

[34:35] north, not quite as much, but that's

[34:37] where the heavy rain is lifting now. So,

[34:38] in the last 6 hours, in just 6 hours,

[34:41] Atoria, 1.45 in 1.23 in at Hokquam. And

[34:45] here in Portland, about 2/3 of an inch

[34:48] just in 6 hours. How much more rain will

[34:50] fall? Well, check out this map. It's

[34:52] very colorful indicating the heavy rain

[34:54] perhaps 6 to 10 ines in the next two

[34:56] days in the coast range. More than two

[34:58] inches in the Wamtt Valley and near

[35:00] Mount St. Helens, southwest Washington

[35:02] Cascades, perhaps more than 10 in of

[35:04] rain all the way up to about 10,000 ft

[35:07] here between now and Tuesday. Then the

[35:09] snow level drops. We get new snow in the

[35:11] Cascades, start building the base at the

[35:13] ski areas. It may even snow and stick at

[35:15] past level. So be aware of that towards

[35:16] the end of the week. First live local

[35:18] forecast details now for the Oregon

[35:20] coast. Windy and rainy, especially north

[35:22] tonight. High wind warning for the whole

[35:24] coast and also the coast range. Gust

[35:27] could reach 70 mph tomorrow in the

[35:29] exposed headlands. Generally 25 to 40

[35:31] mph though. And the heavy rain starts to

[35:33] increase again from north working its

[35:35] way south tomorrow evening. Well,

[35:37] Lambert Valley temperatures very mild,

[35:38] mid to upper 60s. Blustery tomorrow as

[35:40] well. You may not get much rain tonight.

[35:42] It starts to increase tomorrow in the

[35:44] afternoon and evening again. Areas of

[35:46] rain, warm and windy in central and

[35:48] eastern Oregon. Near record highs in the

[35:50] upper 60s tomorrow. Very warm tonight as

[35:52] well. Snow level 10,000 ft in the

[35:54] Cascades. Very windy up there as well.

[35:56] 30 to 50 mph winds up there around

[35:59] treeine. 60° in the morning in Portland.

[36:02] Very warm overnight tonight. Near 65 for

[36:05] high tomorrow. Rain at times increasing

[36:07] becoming heavier in the evening. South

[36:09] winds 20 to 35 m an hour. Warm

[36:11] everywhere tonight and mild tomorrow

[36:13] afternoon with the rain continuing to

[36:14] fall west of town. Eastside temperatures

[36:17] also in the middle 60s tomorrow

[36:18] afternoon. Here's a look at that 7-day

[36:20] forecast. We do turn cooler and the rain

[36:22] eases off later Tuesday. Cooler weather

[36:24] yet Wednesday, Thursday with some

[36:25] mountain snow and then more rain for

[36:26] Friday through Sunday as high stay near

[36:28] 50 with snow accumulating in the

[36:30] mountains. Andy will be following the

[36:31] heavy rain tomorrow morning beginning at

[36:33] 5:00 a.m.

[36:37] We are following breaking news tonight

[36:39] as a house fire tears through a local

[40:38] >> Stand by the final cut in 3 2 1. [ __ ]

[40:41] >> The final cut starts tonight with news

[40:42] from across America. The search for

[40:44] bodies continues after a deadly hotel

[40:46] fire in Reno, Nevada. So far, nine

[40:49] bodies have been found at the historic

[40:50] hotel. Authorities say it's the city's

[40:52] deadliest fire ever. The 84y old Lamar

[40:54] caught fire on Tuesday. Police arrested

[40:56] the casino cook, who happens to be a

[40:58] parrolled murderer, Valerie Moore. They

[41:01] suspect she started the blaze by setting

[41:03] a mattress on fire. Thousands came to

[41:05] mourn the loss of five firefighters who

[41:07] died in a California wildfire. The men

[41:09] died fighting the Espironza fire last

[41:11] month. An arsonist started that blaze.

[41:13] It was the deadliest wildfire disaster

[41:15] in more than a decade. The Forest

[41:16] Service Honor Guard performed an

[41:18] elaborate ceremony to honor the fallen

[41:20] heroes. Two Pennsylvania College

[41:22] students will probably ask permission

[41:24] next time they want to use an NFL

[41:26] stadium. Cops say the Carnegie Melon

[41:28] students tried to break into the

[41:30] Pittsburgh Steelers Stadium. They told

[41:32] police they were trying to shoot a music

[41:33] video there. Surveillance cameras caught

[41:35] the pair trying to climb the fence

[41:37] around Hinesfield Stadium early this

[41:38] morning. The aspiring music video

[41:40] directors are now charged with criminal

[41:42] trespass and criminal conspiracy.

[41:45] Impressive results in today's New York

[41:47] marathon. A Latvian woman became the

[41:49] first woman to win the race in

[41:51] back-to-back years since the mid90s. She

[41:54] finished in 2 hours 25 minutes and 5

[41:56] seconds. The men's winner from Brazil

[41:58] finished in 2 hours 9 minutes and 58

[42:00] seconds. He's the first South American

[42:02] to ever win the race. Seventime Tour to

[42:05] France champion Lance Armstrong also

[42:07] ran. He called it the hardest physical

[42:09] challenge he's ever completed. A

[42:11] teenager who lost his leg in a shark

[42:13] attack is conquering his fears tonight

[42:15] by heading back to the ocean for a

[42:17] triathlon. Craig Hutau nearly died two

[42:20] years ago off the coast of Florida when

[42:22] a bull shark bit him, but he said the

[42:24] terrifying ordeal wouldn't keep him from

[42:26] competing in today's triathlon challenge

[42:28] in San Diego. The high school senior has

[42:30] been practicing swimming with one leg to

[42:32] get ready for the event.

[42:35] >> You got to get your technique down. You

[42:36] got to build your abs and your leg two

[42:38] times more as if you had two legs.

[42:40] >> Hu also prepared himself mentally for

[42:42] the challenge by focusing on the

[42:44] competition rather than the possibility

[42:46] of sharks in the water. The teen teamed

[42:48] up with his two brothers for the

[42:49] triathlon who participated in the

[42:51] cycling and running portions of the

[42:53] event.

[42:54] >> It's starting to look a lot like

[42:55] Christmas in Indianapolis. More than 200

[42:57] volunteer electricians strung lights and

[42:59] garland on the Soldiers and Sailors

[43:01] Monument this weekend. And the monument

[43:02] now has more than 4,000 lights and 6

[43:05] miles of garland. Even though it's

[43:07] really just a stone monument dressed up

[43:08] like a Christmas tree, the city is

[43:10] calling it the tallest Christmas tree in

[43:11] the world. People who happen to walk by

[43:14] watch the project in amazement.

[43:17] And then the person at the at the top is

[43:20] the one that's actually going to catch

[43:22] it up there and actually snap it in

[43:24] place. Toy soldiers, candy canes, and

[43:27] banners will be installed this week. The

[43:28] tree will be lit during a festival at

[43:30] the end of the month.

[43:34] Katrina's devastation may be changing

[43:36] the demographics of New Orleans. In

[43:38] fact, some say the Big Easy is becoming

[43:40] El Grande Facil. Since the flooding,

[43:43] about 30,000 Mexican day workers have

[43:45] settled in New Orleans, up from 5,000

[43:47] just a year ago. Even local restaurants

[43:49] are changing to accommodate the culture.

[43:53] >> The population ask for this kind of

[43:54] food. Like the Mexican guys don't like

[43:57] sandwich. They like chicken over rice,

[44:00] beans, red beans, jalapeno peppers.

[44:04] >> Every day, groups of day laborers gather

[44:06] waiting to be hired. Many employers say

[44:08] they work faster and harder for less

[44:10] with a positive attitude. But American

[44:12] workers say some sometimes Mexicans are

[44:15] taking jobs away from legal citizens.

[44:19] In world news tonight, thousands of

[44:21] anti-government demonstrators marched

[44:22] through the central Mexican city of Aaka

[44:24] today, demanding federal police leave

[44:27] their town. The government sent the

[44:28] officers to the city last week to help

[44:30] control a five-monthlong protest against

[44:32] the state's governor. But after the

[44:34] officers forced protesters out of the

[44:35] city's main square, they set up camp to

[44:38] make sure the demonstrators wouldn't

[44:39] return. Today, several hundred people

[44:41] ended up attacking the officers with

[44:43] stones and bottles.

[44:45] At least 15 people died in two separate

[44:47] explosions in northeastern India today.

[44:50] 30 others were injured. The first blast

[44:52] ripped through a crowded marketplace,

[44:53] killing 13 people. 30 minutes later, two

[44:56] more died after another bomb exploded in

[44:58] a neighborhood. No one has claimed

[44:59] responsibility for the bombings, but

[45:01] police blamed separatist rebels.

[45:03] Authorities say it was likely a

[45:04] retaliatory strike from the United

[45:06] Liberation Front of Assam rebels. The

[45:08] group has been fighting for a separate

[45:10] homeland since 1971.

[45:13] Japanese researchers say they likely

[45:15] have further evidence that oceang

[45:16] dwelling mammals once lived on land.

[45:19] They're studying a bottle-nosed dolphin

[45:21] with an extra set of fins that could be

[45:23] the remains of hind legs. Anglers

[45:25] captured the dolphin last week and

[45:27] alerted a nearby whaling museum about

[45:29] their discovery. Fossil remains show

[45:31] dolphins and whales were 4-footed land

[45:33] animals about 50 million years ago.

[45:36] Scientists say they later transitioned

[45:38] to an aquatic lifestyle and their hind

[45:40] legs disappeared.

[45:43] Live from Fox 12 Oregon, this is

[45:45] breaking news.

[45:47] >> We are following breaking news tonight

[45:48] as a magnitude 2.6 earthquake that hit

[45:51] the Portland area tonight is getting a

[45:53] lot of attention. KPTV's Deborah Gil is

[45:55] live in the newsroom with the very

[45:57] latest. Deb Hillary, it was a 2.6

[45:59] magnitude quake. It hit at 6 at 9:34.

[46:02] Originally, it was believed to be right

[46:05] downtown at 12th in Morrison, but take a

[46:07] look at some of these USGA websites that

[46:10] we found. Now, they're saying they

[46:11] believe it's southeast, roughly 16th and

[46:14] Stark. Here's another one that's pretty

[46:16] interesting from the USGS, and it shows

[46:18] what people have felt it, how strongly

[46:21] they felt it, and where they felt it.

[46:22] This um did you feel it website, 1,578

[46:27] people have reported feeling this, both

[46:29] weak and light. It doesn't get any

[46:31] stronger than that. And there you see is

[46:32] the epicenter, but it's felt clear out

[46:35] here north uh into into Washington and

[46:38] and south around Milwaukee. And here is

[46:41] uh one more. And this of course is what

[46:43] we typically see when we're we're

[46:45] talking about earthquakes. You know,

[46:46] there's nothing nothing nothing. And

[46:48] then suddenly it hits short duration.

[46:50] Again, there have been no reports of

[46:52] damage, but a lot of people 1500 people

[46:55] in the metro area that have reported

[46:57] that they felt it. Again, a 2.6 six

[47:00] earthquake hit at 9:34 and right now

[47:02] they believe southeast Portland roughly

[47:05] Stark and 16th. Reporting live in the

[47:08] newsroom, Deborah Gil, the 10:00 news.

[47:09] >> All right, Deborah. Uh, thank you. We're

[47:11] following another breaking story

[47:12] tonight. Portland firefighters are

[47:14] battling a house fire on Northwest

[47:15] Cornell Road right now. The blaze broke

[47:17] out around 8:30 tonight and we just have

[47:19] some video into the Fox 12 newsroom.

[47:21] Authorities say the three-story home is

[47:23] completely engulfed and it appears to be

[47:25] a total loss. Crews say they've had some

[47:28] trouble fighting the fire because of the

[47:29] rain. They also say the house is hard to

[47:31] reach with their equipment. We're told

[47:33] the person who lives there is out of the

[47:35] house and safe tonight.

[47:40] The final cut goes local now as the

[47:42] heavy rain could mean some big trouble

[47:44] for people living near one highway. Fox

[47:46] 12 meteorologist Drew Jackson joins us

[47:48] now to tell us why Highway 35 could see

[47:50] significant damage this week. Drew?

[47:52] >> Yeah, Hillary. This is the type of

[47:53] weather pattern where in the past it has

[47:55] caused wash out problems along Highway

[47:57] 35. And the area we're specifically

[47:59] talking about is Mount Hood. This is

[48:01] Highway 26 through here. And Highway 35

[48:04] goes along the east side of the mountain

[48:06] and basically goes from Government Camp

[48:08] or just east of Government Camp towards

[48:10] Hood River. And what happens is the

[48:12] mountain is very bare snow right now. So

[48:14] this is a fall type event when we get

[48:16] very heavy rain at a very high level. A

[48:19] lot of water gets stored in this White

[48:21] River Glacier here up here on Mount

[48:22] Hood. It kind of gets damned up during

[48:24] the summer runoff season. And a big

[48:26] heavy rain event like this sometimes is

[48:28] enough to unleash that dam, if you will,

[48:30] and a big flood of water comes down the

[48:32] White River Canyon and can be strong

[48:34] enough to completely knock out this

[48:35] bridge in some cases in the past along

[48:37] Highway 35 and cause lots of problems.

[48:39] It happened just a couple years ago and

[48:41] a big time event happened in 1998.

[48:44] Again, this is the type of weather

[48:45] pattern where this could happen again.

[48:47] I'm not saying it's going to happen.

[48:48] It's just this is the type of pattern

[48:49] that has known to cause wash outs along

[48:51] Highway 35. I'm Drew Jackson, the 10

[48:53] o'clock news.

[48:55] >> And stay tuned to Fox 12 for continuing

[48:56] coverage of our weather. We will have an

[48:58] updated forecast tomorrow morning on

[49:00] Good Day Oregon and again on the 10:00

[49:01] news. And you can always get the latest

[49:03] weather news on kpv.com.

[49:06] >> There's a growing crime trend hitting

[49:08] America's farmlands. It's called plaid

[49:10] collar crime and it includes crimes like

[49:12] cattle rustling, timber theft, crop

[49:13] stealing, and tractor heists. More and

[49:16] more farms are saying if it's not nailed

[49:18] down, thieves think it's up for grabs.

[49:20] >> It makes you mad as hell for a while and

[49:23] then you kind of get numb to it. Um,

[49:27] we would like to see something happen.

[49:29] We'd like to know that our property is

[49:32] more secure. Plaid collar crime is

[49:34] topping $1 billion a year and consumers

[49:36] end up paying the price. Farmers say

[49:38] they're forced to make up their losses

[49:39] by charging more for the food and goods

[49:41] they produce on their farms.

[49:45] Hollywood is buzzing tonight about

[49:47] Charlie Sheen and Denise Richards truce.

[49:49] They say they're calling one for the

[49:51] sake of their kids. In an interview to

[49:53] air tomorrow, Sheen tells Ellen

[49:54] DeGeneres that he's happy his aranged

[49:56] wife is dating Bonjovi guitarist Richie

[49:59] Sambora. He calls Sambora a good parent

[50:01] and a decent guy. The actor says they

[50:04] want to be responsible parents to their

[50:05] two young daughters. Sambora's ex-wife

[50:08] is former Richard's pal Heather Lleair,

[50:10] but it's safe to say the two are now

[50:12] exfriend.

[50:14] >> A movie with a long title and some big

[50:15] laughs made a lot of money at the box

[50:17] office this weekend. The Alley G

[50:18] spin-off titled Borat: Cultural

[50:20] Learnings of America for Make Benefit

[50:22] Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan debuted in

[54:01] We'll also shift gears a little bit.

[54:03] Going to take you inside the world of

[54:05] curling. You probably know it as that

[54:07] oddball Olympic sport. Well, it is alive

[54:09] and well right here in Portland. And

[54:11] don't look now, but lacrosse season is

[54:13] almost here. The lumberjacks open

[54:14] training camp this month. We're going to

[54:16] head to tryyouts and Jack's coach Derek

[54:18] Keenan will join us in studio for a

[54:47] Beware of the people you meet online and

[54:49] don't offer to cash their checks for

[54:50] them. That's the latest warning from the

[54:52] banking community. Experts say the

[54:53] internet is a major new source of check

[54:55] fraud and the tactic scammers use to

[54:57] lure their victims are increasingly

[54:58] devious and effective. The most common

[55:01] is a Nigerian banking scam. That's where

[55:03] someone will send you a check and ask

[55:04] you to cash it, then wire back the

[55:06] money. However, the checks are usually

[55:07] counterfeit and it can take a week or

[55:09] more for the bank to figure that out.

[55:13] In tonight's Health Watch, new research

[55:15] shows you can drop pounds by changing

[55:17] habits you may not even know you have.

[55:19] Cornell University professor Brian

[55:21] Wasnik says people add extra calories to

[55:24] their diet subconsciously. For example,

[55:26] he found people eat more food during

[55:28] comic movies rather than sad movies.

[55:30] They eat more M&M's the more colorful

[55:32] they are. And they eat less food when

[55:34] they use a smaller plate. Wasik says

[55:36] people should avoid fat diets and

[55:38] instead change little behaviors that cut

[55:40] just 200 calories a day. He says this

[55:43] means hiding candy and avoiding jumbosiz

[55:46] packaging. Scientists may have finally

[55:48] unlocked the mystery behind SIDS, sudden

[55:51] infant death syndrome. They say SIDS

[55:53] children may have problems regulating

[55:55] their serotonin levels. The hormone

[55:57] controls breathing, body temperature,

[55:58] and waking. Experts say the discovery

[56:00] may lead to early diagnosis and possibly

[56:03] a treatment. SIDS is the leading cause

[56:05] of death in America among babies ages 1

[56:07] month to one year.

[56:09] >> All right, and Drew Jackson joins us

[59:54] guarantee stable funding for schools.

[59:56] Ted Kolenoski. Other politicians get

[60:38] >> It is an oddball type sport.

[60:45] >> Oregon Sports Final presented by Les

[60:48] Schwab Tires.

[60:49] >> Welcome to the show everybody. You know,

[60:51] it is early, very early in the NBA

[60:54] season. But I got to say, the

[60:55] Trailblazers look like they're going to

[60:56] make a little noise around Elite this.

[60:58] >> Yeah, just a little bit. They're off to

[60:59] a twoin-one start. The latest win last

[61:01] night, their home opener in front of a

[61:03] capacity crowd at the Rose Garden. Storm

[61:05] Large got things started with the

[61:06] national anthem. She's the local singer

[61:08] who recently made some noise on the TV

[61:09] show Rockstar. As for the game, Blazers

[61:11] trailed Minnesota by 16 after one

[61:13] quarter, but they rallied back. Martell

[61:16] Webster gives Portland the lead in the

[61:17] fourth with back-to- back

[61:19] three-pointers. Blazers on top 7774.

[61:22] Moments later, Travis Outlaw going right

[61:25] over Kevin Garnett. Outlaw broke out

[61:27] with a team high 18 points and 15

[61:29] rebounds. 3 minutes to go. Minnesota

[61:31] retakes the lead on Ricky Davis's three.

[61:34] So, the Blazers down by one with 6.2

[61:37] seconds on the clock. Juan Dixon. Bam.

[61:40] Good night. Blazers rally to beat

[61:42] Minnesota 8886. And that's exactly how

[61:45] this young Blazers team wanted to

[61:46] introduce itself. That's what we play

[61:48] for is for the fans. And uh when you

[61:51] have that opportunity to play in front

[61:52] of your fans, you know, give these fans

[61:54] something to come back for.

[61:55] >> Everybody was in this game. Everybody

[61:57] was ready when their name was called.

[61:58] And uh you know, fortunately when the

[62:00] ball came me and Wong's way when we

[62:02] knocked those shots down.

[62:03] >> Hopefully this this shows them, you

[62:04] know, with their support, you know, we

[62:06] can we can do a lot of special things.

[62:07] So if they can turn out like that every

[62:09] night and we can get that type of

[62:10] effort, it'll be a great season.

[62:11] >> Tell you what, rookie Brandon Roy right

[62:13] there has been nothing short of

[62:14] spectacular, averaging just over 18

[62:16] points a game. So far, expectations were

[62:19] high for the kid from Seattle, and he's

[62:21] meeting them head on. His debut in the

[62:23] season opener at Seattle in front of

[62:25] family and friends was a storybook start

[62:27] to his career, scoring 20 points in the

[62:29] Blazers first win.

[62:32] >> I would have been happy scoring eight

[62:33] points.
