[0:53] dealing with the book of revelation

[0:56] we're so thankful that you took the time

[1:08] there's a lot of things going through

[1:10] your mind and a lot of concerns that

[1:12] maybe you have or just some

[1:13] wanting to know a little bit more about

[1:15] the book of revelation

[1:17] and so we're excited that you took the

[1:19] time to stop by and we're going to try

[1:21] our best to

[1:22] keep these to a time frame that'll be

[1:25] convenient for you

[1:26] we know you're so busy but we feel it's

[1:29] so important to get into your hands

[1:31] the word of god so we like to start

[1:34] today

[1:34] by having a word of prayer and then

[1:36] right after i pray

[1:38] we'll get ready to move in to this next

[1:40] segment let's pray today

[1:42] the heavenly father i'm so thankful for

[1:44] every person watching this morning

[1:47] lord we pray today that you'd help

[1:49] encourage them

[1:50] through this study lord that we may

[1:52] answer the questions

[1:54] that you have in your word given clearly

[1:57] the answers to lord help us today

[2:01] to see you and to understand

[2:05] this book more thankful for you

[2:08] thankful for the opportunity for these

[2:10] people to watch this morning

[2:13] guide me as a teacher today

[2:16] help my words to be clear and to be

[2:18] helpful

[2:19] in your name i pray amen

[2:22] so revelation chapter number one we're

[2:25] going to begin

[2:26] reading verses one through six today

[2:29] so the first verse says this the

[2:30] revelation of jesus christ

[2:33] which god gave unto him to show unto his

[2:36] servants

[2:37] things which must shortly come to pass

[2:41] and he sent and signified it by his

[2:43] angel

[2:44] unto his servant john verse number two

[2:47] who bear record of the word of god and

[2:50] of the testimony of jesus christ

[2:53] and of all the things that he saw verse

[2:56] number three

[2:57] blessed is he that readeth and they that

[3:00] hear the words of this prophecy

[3:02] and keep those things which are written

[3:04] therein for the time

[3:06] is at hand verse number four

[3:09] john to the seven churches which are in

[3:11] asia

[3:12] grace be unto you in peace from him

[3:15] which is

[3:16] and which was and which is to come

[3:19] and from the seven spirits which are

[3:21] before his throne

[3:23] verse number five and from jesus christ

[3:26] who is the faithful witness and first

[3:29] begotten of the dead

[3:30] and the prince of the kings of the earth

[3:33] unto him that loved us

[3:35] and washed us from our sins in his own

[3:37] blood

[3:38] and hath made us kings and priests unto

[3:40] god

[3:41] and his father to him be glory and

[3:44] dominion forever

[3:46] and ever amen

[3:49] so as we look at verse number one we

[3:51] discover something that's very important

[3:53] in the verse number one it is the

[3:55] revelation

[3:56] of jesus christ notice i said revelation

[3:59] not revelations we talked about it last

[4:01] week there's only one revelation here

[4:03] revealed

[4:04] it is a revelation of jesus christ now

[4:07] it's jesus christ ministry in the

[4:10] present

[4:10] the past and the future are all detailed

[4:14] for us

[4:14] here in the book of revelation and we'll

[4:16] talk about that more as we continue on

[4:19] but i want you to notice the second

[4:21] phrase which god gave

[4:22] unto him so the revelation of jesus

[4:26] christ

[4:26] from god to jesus christ for the purpose

[4:30] to show to his servants

[4:31] things to come so as you look at the

[4:34] verse it's

[4:35] which god gave unto him the hymn there

[4:37] being referring to jesus christ himself

[4:41] now jesus christ took the revelation and

[4:43] he shows it unto his servants

[4:45] the things which must shortly come to

[4:47] pass and we'll talk about that

[4:49] here in just a moment and he said and

[4:51] signified it by his

[4:53] angel unto his servant john now i want

[4:56] you to notice something

[4:57] that's very important the angel part

[5:00] here it's his angels so jesus christ

[5:03] chose a representative from the angels

[5:06] to deliver this message

[5:08] to john this is not jesus himself

[5:11] delivering the message you'll come to

[5:13] realize that in revelation chapter 22

[5:16] but it's an angel purpose by god to

[5:19] deliver

[5:20] the message from jesus christ

[5:23] unto his servant john now the time frame

[5:27] it says must shortly come to pass let's

[5:29] look at this verse second peter 3 8

[5:32] the bible says but beloved be not

[5:34] ignorant of this

[5:35] one thing that one day is with the lord

[5:39] as a thousand years and a thousand years

[5:42] as one day peter here is showing us this

[5:46] important truth that time doesn't

[5:48] operate

[5:49] or constrain god like it does us

[5:52] god is not constrained by time but peter

[5:54] gives us this analogy here of over a

[5:57] thousand

[5:58] years to us being as one day

[6:01] unto the lord so when the lord told john

[6:05] that it's must shortly come to pass he

[6:08] was being truthful to him

[6:09] it's just been a few days the writing of

[6:12] john

[6:13] occurring in 1896 of the book of

[6:15] revelation

[6:16] it's just been a few days less than 2

[6:19] 000 years since that revelation was

[6:21] given

[6:22] and so we find here this time frame

[6:25] must shortly come to pass and he also

[6:28] tells

[6:29] us that john john the beloved was given

[6:32] this revelation now

[6:34] in verse number two it tells us about

[6:36] john who bear record of the word of god

[6:39] and of the testimony of jesus christ and

[6:42] of all the things

[6:43] that he saw if anyone's going to be able

[6:47] to testify

[6:48] of the future events that john got to

[6:51] see

[6:52] it's john the beloved the disciple whom

[6:54] jesus loved

[6:55] one of his most faithful companions and

[6:58] so

[6:58] we understand john he bears record of

[7:01] the word of god

[7:03] he bears testimony of jesus christ

[7:06] and all the things that he saw now as we

[7:08] look at verse 3

[7:10] there's a blessing that's revealed the

[7:12] bible says blessed is he that readeth

[7:15] and they that hear the words of this

[7:17] prophecy and keep those things which are

[7:19] written therein

[7:20] for the time is at hand the book of

[7:24] revelation gives us a blessing

[7:26] it says blessed are is he that readeth

[7:28] so when you read this book you get

[7:30] blessed

[7:31] when you hear the words of this prophecy

[7:33] through the preaching of the word of god

[7:35] you're blessed when you keep those

[7:37] things which are written therein

[7:39] you're blessed there's a blessing that

[7:41] comes down from the lord

[7:43] regarding this book of revelation so as

[7:46] the book of revelation is

[7:47] revealed it's revealed in the past it's

[7:50] being revealed in the present

[7:51] and it will be revealed even further and

[7:54] completed in the future

[7:55] but here it tells us about that blessing

[7:59] now the last phrase of that verse talks

[8:01] about the time being at hand

[8:03] and i'd like to share with you to help

[8:05] you understand

[8:07] and maybe get in your mind what the

[8:09] reference here of the time

[8:11] is at hand so i want you to pay

[8:13] attention to this timeline that we've

[8:15] laid out for you

[8:18] the timeline as you see starts with the

[8:20] cross

[8:21] but you'll notice a little bit before

[8:23] the cross there's that green line this

[8:25] is what's happening on earth

[8:27] there's a time before the cross of

[8:29] calvary when jesus started the church

[8:32] with his disciples and that's a whole

[8:34] nother video and we'll get to that at a

[8:36] later time

[8:37] then you have the cross of calvary you

[8:39] say preacher why'd you put the cross

[8:40] there

[8:41] because everything hinges upon the cross

[8:43] it's a good

[8:44] time stamp to go back to right after the

[8:47] cross of calvary you'll see

[8:49] jesus ascends to heaven during this time

[8:52] here on earth on that main line

[8:54] there we're experiencing what's called

[8:55] the church age

[8:57] or the age of grace you'll also notice

[9:00] that

[9:01] during that time during the church age

[9:04] very close

[9:04] after the ascension of jesus christ

[9:07] you'll find

[9:08] revelations chapter 1 2 and 3

[9:12] being fulfilled in the chapters there

[9:14] you'll discover the seven churches

[9:17] of asia minor here's their names ephesus

[9:20] smyrna pergamos thyrotira

[9:23] sardis philadelphia and laodicea

[9:26] we'll talk more about them later now

[9:28] you'll notice i said the seven churches

[9:31] of

[9:31] asia minor will mention that and what

[9:33] that details in shortly

[9:35] now the next thing on god's prophetic

[9:37] calendar as we look at our timeline

[9:40] is that upward arrow which says the

[9:42] rapture

[9:43] of the church the rapture of the church

[9:45] the next thing that's going to happen

[9:47] on god's calendar is the rapture of the

[9:50] church

[9:51] immediately following the rapture of the

[9:53] church we will have what is known as the

[9:55] tribulation period

[9:57] it's seven years long it's also found as

[10:00] the 70th week of daniel

[10:02] i want to point out something that's

[10:03] very important the tribulation period

[10:06] has nothing to do with the church the

[10:08] tribulation period has

[10:10] everything to do with the nation of

[10:11] israel and god's

[10:13] dealing with the nation of israel and so

[10:16] on earth after the rapture of the church

[10:19] will be the tribulation period

[10:21] it'll cover revelation chapters 4 verse

[10:24] 2

[10:24] through chapter 19. now you'll notice

[10:27] chapter 4 verse 1 we included

[10:29] at the rapture of the church and when

[10:32] you get to revelation 4 1

[10:33] you should underline that verse and

[10:36] write the words

[10:36] church exit right next to it the exit

[10:40] of the church but in revelations 4 2

[10:43] through chapter 19 you're going to find

[10:45] these things the seven

[10:46] seal judgments the seven trumpet

[10:48] judgments

[10:49] the seven bowl judgments the beast

[10:53] the false prophet babylon the two

[10:56] witnesses the hundred and forty four

[10:58] thousand

[10:59] and so on and so forth the mark of the

[11:01] beast all of that's going to occur

[11:03] during the 70th week of daniel the seven

[11:06] year tribulation period and more and so

[11:09] this timeline is a simplified timeline

[11:12] we're going to give you more detail in

[11:14] each lesson as we work through

[11:16] this timeline after the 70th week of

[11:20] daniel the seven year tribulation period

[11:22] the second coming of jesus christ you'll

[11:24] notice he comes

[11:25] back down to earth during the second

[11:29] coming of jesus christ

[11:30] shortly thereafter there will be some

[11:32] battles that take place we'll discuss

[11:34] those

[11:34] and then jesus will rule and reign from

[11:36] the city of david

[11:38] during the millennial kingdom found in

[11:40] revelation

[11:41] chapter number 20 we'll detail some of

[11:43] those information there

[11:45] and then at the end of the millennial

[11:46] kingdom satan will be loosed for a

[11:48] period of time

[11:49] there'll be the final battle and then

[11:51] the earth will be destroyed and there'll

[11:53] be a new heaven

[11:55] and a new earth and much more detail

[11:58] to come so that's just a simplified

[12:01] timeline

[12:02] that we've laid out for you so that you

[12:05] can understand

[12:06] that the time is at hand we are very

[12:09] close

[12:10] to the rapture of the church in fact it

[12:12] could be

[12:13] any moment and we believe here bible

[12:16] baptist church the imminent return

[12:18] of the lord it could happen at any

[12:21] moment

[12:22] and so i encourage you today to be ready

[12:26] for the trumpet sound as you can see

[12:28] there's a lot of things we're going to

[12:30] be talking about

[12:31] over the next few weeks and months

[12:33] perhaps

[12:34] and so i want to encourage you read

[12:36] chapter number one of revelation

[12:38] this week study it out write

[12:41] questions that you have you can comment

[12:44] them in our church's facebook page or on

[12:48] or you can text them to me or email me

[12:51] here at our church we'd be happy to try
