[0:01] October 6th, 2005. I'm Ted Cppel and

[0:05] this is Night Line. Tonight, a crusading

[0:08] American journalist gunned down last

[0:10] year in Moscow. Paul being a business

[0:13] journalist in Russia, it was a very

[0:15] fertile environment within which to work

[0:17] because there literally was so much

[0:19] corruption, so much negligence and abuse

[0:21] in the government. billions of dollars,

[0:24] politicians who are corrupt, businessmen

[0:26] who are corrupt, uh, along with

[0:28] organized crime. That's a very dangerous

[0:30] combination. I'm sure there were people

[1:02] alive. A number of Klebnikov's American

[1:05] and Russian colleagues remain

[1:07] unconvinced and are continuing to

[1:10] investigate the crime. There is a

[1:13] committee supported by many news

[1:15] organizations including ABC News which

[1:18] tries to keep international attention

[1:20] focused on reporters around the world

[1:22] who have been wrongfully arrested,

[1:24] beaten, tortured or killed. It's a

[1:27] nonprofit organization known as the

[1:29] Committee to Protect Journalists. I am a

[1:32] longtime supporter of the CPJ, but my

[1:34] colleague Dave Marish actually sits on

[1:37] its board of directors. Like most people

[1:40] in almost any profession, we take it

[1:42] very pe
