[0:06] Panama City. Negotiations on a deal for
[0:08] Noriega. American troops bring some
[0:11] order to Panama. And in Romania, the
[0:13] beginning of a difficult new day.
[0:17] This is the CBS Evening News. Dan Rather
[0:19] reporting. Good evening. Negotiations to
[0:22] finalize a deal on Manuel Noriego are
[0:24] ricocheting between the Pope, President
[0:26] Bush, and Panama City. Several sources
[0:29] indicate that an understanding may be
[0:31] taking shape under which Noriega is sent
[0:34] to a third country in the Western

[1:11] troops. Not the sort of opulent
[1:13] lifestyle that Noriega, who said to be
[1:16] worth several hundred million dollars,
[1:18] has been used to, judging from the
[1:20] evidence they're uncovering at his
[1:21] various mansions here. But he may not be
[1:24] stuck here much longer. Sources in
[1:26] Panama and in the US have told CBS News
[1:30] they expect a deal will be struck as
[1:32] early as tomorrow which will allow
[1:34] Noriega safe conduct out of Panama to
[1:37] political asylum in another country. So
[1:39] far unidentified an
