[1:57] >> And good morning, South Florida. I'm
[1:59] Susan Barnett.
[2:00] >> And I'm Jade Alexander in for Danielle
[2:02] Knox. Here's a look at what's making
[2:03] news. The latest advisory on Hurricane
[2:06] Francis has just come out and hurricane
[2:08] watches are up in the Bahamas. As your
[2:09] weather station has the latest here in
[2:11] South Florida, residents are already
[2:13] stocking up on supplies in the event of
[2:16] a storm. This as people remember
[2:18] Hurricane Andrew all too well, boarding
[2:20] up their homes. We've got live team
[2:22] coverage. 10 years after the
[2:24] disappearance of a South Florida college
[2:26] student, a suspect is finally indicted.
[2:29] Campaign 2004 is in full swing in South
[2:32] Florida as voters head to the polls for
[2:34] the state's primary election. and we
[2:36] will have a wrap up of day one of the
[2:38] Republican National Convention.
[2:41] >> It is 5 am Tuesday, August 31st. Good
[2:44] morning.
[2:44] >> Good morning. Welcome, Jade.
[2:45] >> Thank you, ma'am.
[2:46] >> You're welcome. And the latest advisory
[2:48] on Hurricane Francis has just come in.
[2:50] We have live team coverage of Hurricane
[2:52] Francis, starting with CBS4
[2:54] meteorologist Bob Soer. Bob,
[2:56] >> good morning. Yeah, right now France is
[2:58] very close to Puerto Rico on the
[3:00] fortunate thing is it's it's to the
[3:02] north of Puerto Rico and so we'll keep
[3:04] an eye on that part of the world as we
[3:05] are watching Hurricane Francis trucking
[3:08] right across the Atlantic Ocean. Now the
[3:10] Caribbean is down here south of the
[3:12] islands. This is the Atlantic north of
[3:14] Puerto Rico. And there's the eye right
[3:16] now and it's continuing to move
[3:18] generally in a westn northwesterly
[3:20] direction. And you can see there's the
[3:22] Bahamas and Haiti, the Dominican
[3:24] Republic and and the northern part of
[3:26] the Virgin Islands there moving right
[3:28] across just north of the Leeward
[3:30] Islands. And again, you can see that
[3:32] good tropical formation there. A
[3:34] hurricane is definitely underway. It's
[3:36] got some strong winds. Now, here's where
[3:38] it's been going. And here's where the
[3:41] computer track makes it want to go. Now,
[3:44] that's one of many popular uh possible
[3:47] tracks. And we're going to show you um
[3:48] the uh the uh cone of uncertainty in
[3:52] just a second, but that's the past 12
[3:54] hours and then it extends it on out.
[3:56] Okay. Now, tropical storm warning is in
[3:59] effect for the northern part of the
[4:01] Lured Islands still stretching over to
[4:04] uh to Puerto Rico and that includes the
[4:06] Virgin Islands, but St. Croy in the
[4:08] vicinity around that is in a tropical
[4:10] storm watch. And then stretching over to
[4:12] the northern coastline of the Dominican
[4:14] Republic and they've got a tropical
[4:16] storm watch as well and just issued a
[4:19] hurricane watch for the southeastern
[4:21] Bahamas, Turks and Caos. So far nothing
[4:24] in Cuba, nothing in the US, too far away
[4:25] for us, but that's where it begins. As
[4:28] of 5:00, 19.9 north, 62.8 west, 125
[4:33] mileph winds. It's a little bit stronger
[4:34] than yesterday morning. Not a lot, but
[4:37] it's still a category three. Winds
[4:39] moving at west at 14 miles per hour. The
[4:42] pressure has dropped ever so slightly
[4:44] and it's about 90 miles east northeast
[4:46] of San Juan, Puerto Rico. That's right
[4:48] in here. So, it's it's to the north of
[4:51] that island and so they'll get some
[4:52] pretty good waves, but it looks like the
[4:53] worst of it will stay out over the
[4:55] Atlantic Ocean. And hopefully that will
[4:57] trend will continue. It looks like it
[4:59] will go north of Haiti and the Dominican
[5:01] Republic tomorrow, Thursday into Friday
[5:04] somewhere over the Bahamas and then the
[5:07] extended risk track that 5day lot a lot
[5:10] of uncertainty lot of uncertainty once
[5:12] you get this far out after 3 days it's
[5:15] uh really uh a pretty tough decision to
[5:17] make. So that's why this is so far out
[5:19] here about 300 miles on either side
[5:21] because the error possibility is as much
[5:24] as 300 miles on either side. So through
[5:26] Sunday, it's a big question mark where
[5:28] this storm will be. So, Hurricane
[5:30] Francis, something we really need to
[5:31] keep an eye on along the entire east
[5:33] coast of Florida. And for those of us
[5:35] here in southeastern Florida, it'll
[5:37] become more clear as time goes on this
[5:39] week, but for now, you just have to keep
[5:41] aware. And uh it's good to be prepared,
[5:43] get the water and batteries and all that
[5:44] stuff. All right, so there's Francis.
[5:46] There's the high still in control. And
[5:48] it actually has strengthened a little
[5:50] bit. So, it is continuing to move
[5:51] Francis on that general westward track
[5:54] across the Atlantic. You look at the
[5:57] high spreading out here. It's kind of a
[6:00] uh nice and sturdy and it's going to
[6:01] continue them movement and allow it to
[6:03] move a little bit to the northwest, west
[6:05] northwest that is. And in time, we think
[6:07] this jetream dip may weaken that eastern
[6:10] part or the western part of that ridge
[6:12] of high pressure and allow Francis to
[6:15] move a little bit more to the north and
[6:17] possibly miss um southeastern Florida.
[6:19] But it does look like it will move over
[6:21] the Bahamas. Now on our water vapor
[6:23] imagery over the past 24 hours, you can
[6:26] get a sense of that push of that ridge
[6:28] of high pressure right in there. You can
[6:30] feel kind of feel for it. And then back
[6:32] up in here, here's that dip in that
[6:33] jetream starting to move down. And if it
[6:36] gets depends on how far south does it
[6:37] get, whether it weakens this ridge
[6:39] enough so that the hurricane can bypass
[6:42] South Florida and maybe move up the
[6:44] coast. All right, so that's what we have
[6:46] on Francis. Now, what about everything
[6:47] else in the weather? Here's Pamela.
[6:49] tonight.
[6:49] >> Hi there. Good morning. Uh definitely
[6:51] feels very tropical out there this
[6:53] morning. Temperatures quite warm near
[6:55] 80° in most spots out there. What we
[6:58] find 81 in Homestead, 82 in Miami, Opaak
[7:02] at 80°. So the AC was running all night
[7:05] for sure. Penrook Pines at 81. All
[7:07] right, an east and southeast breeze
[7:09] coming in today. Also bringing in some
[7:11] clouds this morning. So, somewhat
[7:13] cloudier day to start out than you had
