[0:00] President of Jefferson Parish right

[0:02] outside New Orleans, Aaron Brousard. You

[0:04] may have seen him on Meet the Press

[0:05] yesterday. We also talked to Bishop TD

[0:07] Jake who toured the devastation with

[0:09] President Bush today. And we'll meet a

[0:10] survivor from New Orleans with an

[0:12] absolutely unbelievable story of escape.

[0:14] But first, tonight's development. The

[0:16] evacuation of New Orleans continues at

[0:18] this hour. Hundreds of thousands of

[0:20] storm victims have found refuge in

[0:21] Texas, thousands more in New Mexico, and

[0:23] among the other states offering shelter

[0:25] tonight. Arkansas, Arizona, West

[0:27] Virginia, Utah, Oklahoma, Michigan,

[0:29] Iowa, New York, and Pennsylvania, and

[0:31] probably more. We'll tell you when we

[0:32] find out. Also today, President Bush

[0:34] returned to the affected areas to

[0:36] inspect the recovery effort. Included on

[0:38] his itinerary was a somewhat awkward

[0:40] visit with Louisiana Governor Kathleen

[0:42] Blanco, who was not originally invited

[0:44] to see the president, but showed up to

[0:45] greet him anyway. The two wound up

[0:47] touring various sites together, but not

[0:48] talking much. Among the things Mr. Bush

[0:50] had to say publicly was this. first

[0:53] mission of course is to save lives

[0:56] and uh so long as any life is in danger,

[1:00] we got work to do

[1:03] and they're going to continue to save

[1:04] lives whether it be in New Orleans or

[1:07] the surrounding parishes or up and down

[1:09] the coast of Mississippi.

[1:11] Well, for all the latest news coming

[1:12] from the Gulf Coast, let's turn now to

[1:14] MSNBC's Rita Cosby who's on the scene in

[1:16] New Orleans and also Joe Scarbo who is

[1:18] live in Buxy,
