[1:24] Good morning and thanks for joining us.
[1:25] I'm Michelle Gilen. The nation's
[1:27] retailers are hoping today will be one
[1:29] of the busiest shopping days of the
[1:31] year. New figures show that consumers
[1:33] spent as much as 8% less this holiday
[1:36] season than last year. Auto and gasoline
[1:38] sales accounted for much of the decline.
[1:40] Sales of women's clothes fell more than
[1:43] 22%. Electronics and appliances dropped
[1:46] almost 27%. Drew Levenson is in
[1:48] Washington with more. Drew, good
[1:50] morning.
[1:51] >> Well, good morning to you, Michelle.
[1:52] Most retailers got the equivalent of a
[1:54] lump of coal this holiday season sales.
[1:57] Well, they were way off.
