[1:19] evening and welcome to the second night
[1:21] of the Republican convention here in
[1:22] Dallas David and I have come to look
[1:24] over a group of very confident people
[1:26] from all across the country tonight the
[1:28] uh convention is adopting without any
[1:29] any public ranker the platform for the
[1:31] 1984 campaign and I say without public
[1:34] ranker because the platform has led to
[1:36] some of the more heated debates here
[1:38] among party members and we hope to hear
[1:40] some of them tonight at least into this
[1:42] booth David this is the platform it's
[1:44] nice neat printed little book in red
[1:47] white and blue and it tells what the
[1:49] Republican Party thinks or what the the
[1:51] writers of the platform thought about
[1:53] almost everything the platform might be
[1:56] seen as a sort of press release or
[1:57] handout it gives it views of those who
[2:00] wrote it and not necessarily the views
[2:02] of everyone else and the Republican
[2:04] platform represents the views of those
[2:06] on the platform committee and to an
[2:09] extent no one else we are going to
[2:12] explore this tonight and see where this
[2:14] may lead the Republican Party in the
[2:16] future 88 perhaps and Beyond and to get
[2:19] us started into this Richard frel is on
