[0:00] the White House where many homeless
[0:02] individuals camp out. You saw him uh
[0:06] have a knife or what was described as a
[0:08] dagger almost taped to his uh to his
[0:12] hand. Uh we don't know what he said. It
[0:15] did not appear that in this videotape he
[0:18] lunged towards Park Police officers.
[0:21] That had been suggested earlier that
[0:23] perhaps he made some actual lunge
[0:26] towards the police. They thought that
[0:28] they were in danger. As a result, they
[0:30] shot him. We don't know what happened
[0:32] before this incident, though, we did
[0:34] interview several eyewitnesses who
[0:37] recounted what they saw.
[0:40] There was a guy brandishing a knife. I
[0:43] all I saw is a metal glint. And um
[0:46] pretty soon the cops came running out.
[0:48] They surrounded the guy and they're
[0:50] yelling at him to freeze, drop it. And
[0:53] he just kept, you know, turning back and
[0:55] forth from one cop to the next.
[0:57] And uh I was just about to go up the
[1:00] curb. So I looked down and I heard two
[1:02] shots. I looked up. The guy was flat on
[1:05] his back. The man in brown jacket had
[1:07] his hand hand outstretched.
[1:09] Kind of chased the security officer
[1:11] around for a couple seconds. Then he
[1:13] stopped. More security men came.
[1:15] >> He stood motionless. They told him to
[1:17] put down whatever he had in his hand
[1:19] apparently and he did. And two shots
[1:21] were fired.
[1:24] Now, we do have the official explanation
[1:26] from the park police. Just to rec recap
[1:29] over here, the Secret Service is has the
[1:32] jurisdiction up until the fence
[1:33] surrounding the White House. The US Park
[1:36] Police is in charge of the pavement on
[1:37] the sidewalk outside the White
