[1:07] chapter number three in Psalm chapter

[1:11] number three has just come to a place

[1:16] that he is fleeing from Absalom Absalom

[1:19] his son is rose up against him and

[1:21] David's having to flee from Absalom

[1:23] because he's fearful for his life and so

[1:26] being afraid of Absalom David writes

[1:30] this song so Psalm chapter three verse

[1:32] number one Lord how are they increased

[1:36] that trouble me many are they that rise

[1:40] up against me many there be would say of

[1:44] my soul there is no help for him in God

[1:49] Selah Selah being the musical term what

[1:52] do you think about that or to pause and

[1:55] to ponder into wonder he said Lord how

[1:58] are they increase that troubled me David

[2:01] was concerned because there were so many

[2:03] with Absalom that they were coming up

[2:05] against him that he was concerned he

[2:08] realized there was a large group that

[2:11] were for Absalom and many they are he

[2:14] say that rise up against me even worse

[2:17] um

[2:18] had said to David there's no hope

[2:20] there's no help for him in God God's not

[2:24] for you David they thought Absalom was

[2:27] right and David was wrong so they felt

[2:28] David there's no hope for you there's no

[2:31] help for you and the word Selah means

[2:33] what do you think about so he's pausing

[2:35] and he's reflecting and when David

[2:37] pauses and reflects he writes verse 3

[2:40] but Thou O Lord are a shield for me my

[2:45] glory and the lifter up of mine head I

[2:49] cried unto the Lord with my voice and he

[2:52] heard me out of his holy hill

[2:55] Selah so here's David there's a

[2:58] situation that's overwhelming him

[3:00] there's a situation where his enemies

[3:03] have rose up against him David is at a

[3:06] place where his fear is taking him over

[3:09] where his concern is near him but David

[3:13] had faith and in David's faith he wrote

[3:16] verse 3 but Thou O Lord Artus yield for

[3:21] me one of the interesting phrases there

[3:23] is shield shield is a defensive term

[3:25] David had a defensive shield that was

[3:29] protecting him the Lord was protecting

[3:32] days that David was God's anointed to be

[3:34] king Absalom was not so the Lord is his

[3:38] shield the Lord's his protector he goes

[3:41] on for and he says the glory and the

[3:44] lifter out of mine head not only did

[3:48] David realize that the Lord was his

[3:50] shield of defense against the enemy but

[3:53] also when David would be discouraged the

[3:56] Lord would be the lifter up of his head

[3:59] in other words in our life there are

[4:01] going to be times where your faith helps

[4:04] you to defend against the attack of the

[4:07] enemy to defend against your own

[4:09] feelings but you also must remember that

[4:13] the Lord not only is the defense but he

[4:15] is the lifter up he's the encourage her

[4:19] he's the helper he's the one who pulls

[4:22] us up out of the situation that we're in

[4:24] we need that today with the situation of

[4:28] the land how we need to be reminded that

[4:30] the

[4:30] Lord is the lifter up he's not the

[4:33] presser down he's not the discourage err

[4:37] he's not the knockdown

[4:39] no he's the lifter up of mine head David

[4:42] said I cried unto the Lord with my voice

[4:45] and he heard me out of his holy hill

[4:49] Selah that pause again thinking about

[4:53] what he had just said aren't you

[4:55] thankful that you can cry unto the Lord

[4:57] and he can hear you you don't get a busy

[5:01] signal when you pray to God you don't

[5:04] get call-waiting says all right you are

[5:10] current wait time is 1 hour and 35

[5:12] minutes aren't you thankful that when

[5:14] you pray immediately God hears your

[5:18] prayer there's a direct line to God he

[5:20] says he heard me out of his holy hill

[5:24] David goes on and says I laid down I

[5:27] laid me down and slept I don't know

[5:30] about you have you ever had a night

[5:31] where your thought life caused you to

[5:35] lose some sleep where your thought life

[5:37] caused you to wake up throughout the

[5:40] night it's overwhelming isn't it it's

[5:45] discouraging when your thought life

[5:47] controls your sleep pattern but David

[5:51] said I laid me down and slept how

[5:56] amazing is that

[5:57] well David lays down and he sleeps

[5:59] because he knows the Lord it is his

[6:01] shield

[6:02] he knows the Lord is the lifter up he

[6:04] knows the Lord is with him the Lord is

[6:06] going to defend him against the enemy

[6:08] the Lord is going to lift him up when

[6:09] he's discouraged so he has this calming

[6:12] peace the peace that passes all

[6:15] understanding some of us faster do you

[6:19] know about what the future holds pastor

[6:21] do you know this we get questions all

[6:23] the time is this the beginning of the

[6:26] end I don't know the answer

[6:28] if I knew the answer I would tell you

[6:31] but I know the who and the who is the

[6:34] Lord and he is in control and he knows

[6:37] what's ahead and he knows what we face

[6:39] so I can lay my head down on my pillow

[6:42] and sleep

[6:44] because I trust in the one who made this

[6:48] world I can trust in the one who knew

[6:52] the disease was coming I can trust in

[6:54] the one who created the brains for those

[6:57] who could find a cure I trust in the one

[7:00] who says I'll never leave thee nor

[7:03] forsake thee david says i laid me down

[7:09] and slept and i awaked aren't you

[7:11] thankful you woke up today now we may

[7:14] not be thankful for the circumstances

[7:16] that we woke up in but i'm pretty sure

[7:18] every room and everyone watching online

[7:20] are probably thankful they woke up in

[7:22] their own bed today not in somebody

[7:25] else's bed amen you woke up in your own

[7:27] bed today in your own place so that

[7:30] you've laid your head down and you got

[7:32] up today and went about your day

[7:35] hopefully your days involved being in

[7:37] the house of the Lord

[7:38] everyone in the room tonight I know you

[7:40] were here this morning so I thank you

[7:42] for being back tonight but I encourage

[7:44] you David said I awaked

[7:46] and why did he wake up for the Lord

[7:49] sustained me said I slept through the

[7:53] night and I awoke all because of the

[7:57] Lord and you and I can go to sleep at

[8:00] night and wake up the next day all

[8:03] because the Lord sustains us through the

[8:05] night the Lord provides the breath that

[8:08] we need he provides the brainwaves that

[8:10] we have he provides the oxygen to the

[8:13] blood that we need to sleep Hebrew does

[8:15] the whole process so because david has

[8:18] this faith in god verse 6 i will not be

[8:22] afraid of ten thousands of people that

[8:27] have set themselves against me round

[8:31] about david says i will not be afraid

[8:34] now all of us have the choice to be

[8:39] afraid we can choose to be afraid or we

[8:43] can choose not to be afraid it is a

[8:46] decision process that each and every one

[8:48] of us must make david says i will not be

[8:52] afraid of ten thousand people that have

[8:55] set themselves against me roundabout

[8:57] versa

[8:58] arise o Lord save me o my God for thou

[9:02] hast smitten all mine enemies upon the

[9:04] cheekbone thou hast broken the teeth of

[9:07] the ungodly salvation belongeth unto the

[9:10] Lord thy blessing is upon thy people

[9:13] Selah David says I I awoke because the

[9:18] Lord sustained me I will not fear

[9:20] because the Lord is with me I will arise

[9:23] O Lord and save me I know the Lord can

[9:25] save me but not only will he save me

[9:27] he'll defend me not only will he defend

[9:30] me he'll lift me up when I'm discouraged

[9:32] I have my faith and trust in the Lord

[9:36] Psalm chapter three is an encouraging

[9:39] psalm to each and every one of us

[9:41] tonight no matter what we're facing no

[9:44] matter the circumstances around us we

[9:49] must remember thou Oh Lord our two

[9:54] shield for me my glory and the lifter up

[9:58] of mine head you may go to bed tonight

[10:01] and be discouraged but you need to take

[10:06] that discouragement and talk to the

[10:09] father about it and pray to him and ask

[10:12] him to help you deal with the

[10:14] discouragement in your life you may go

[10:17] to bed tonight and may be tossing

[10:20] some people have said that when you're

[10:23] having trouble sleeping try counting

[10:25] sheep talk to him and let him hear your

[10:30] concerns let him hear the things that

[10:33] are troubling you but remind yourself

[10:36] that he's the lifter up of your head

[10:40] he's the one who knows when you're down

[10:44] and can pick you up he did it when you

[10:48] were lost in sin did he not Bible tells

[10:51] us in Romans 5:8 but God commendeth his

[10:53] love toward us and that while we were

[10:55] yet sinners Christ died for us so when

[10:58] we were lost in sin you know where you

[11:01] were he reached down into your sinful

[11:05] heart and saved you from your sin

[11:10] aren't you thankful he came to you he

[11:13] reached down to you and pulls you up out

[11:16] of that miry clay and set your feet upon

[11:19] the rock but not only that sometimes we

[11:22] play around as we talked about another

[11:24] time played around in the mud and we get

[11:27] in the mud of sin and we get ourselves

[11:29] sinking in the mud if you've ever played

[11:32] in mud you ever been treading through

[11:35] mud it gets real heavy doesn't it

[11:37] your boots get way down you know after a

[11:41] while you just can barely go on it's so

[11:44] heavy and sin will do that to you sin

[11:48] will weigh you down it'll slow you up in

[11:51] your Christian life one writer put it

[11:53] this way sin will take you farther than

[11:55] you want to go it'll keep you longer

[11:57] than you want to stay and it'll cost you

[11:59] more than you want to pay that's what

[12:02] sin will do to each and every one of us

[12:04] tonight and in our lives some of the

[12:09] circumstances we arrive at are not

[12:10] because God wanted them in our life

[12:14] because you and I chose to get in the

[12:18] mud of sin and to sink down in that sin

[12:22] and when we sink down he has to lift us

[12:26] up he has to pull this up out of the mud

[12:29] he has to pull us up out of our sin life

[12:32] but verse 3 happens when verse 4 takes

[12:38] place in our lives when we cry unto the

[12:41] Lord I hope and pray during this time

[12:45] that you are praying you're not just

[12:49] complaining about the situation of the

[12:51] day you're not just concerned about the

[12:54] situation of the day but you're actually

[12:55] talking to somebody who can do something

[12:57] about it and that's the Lord the Bible

[13:00] tells us we ought to pray we ought to

[13:02] pray for those in authority we ought to

[13:04] pray for the doctors who are trying to

[13:06] find a way to remedy this situation we

[13:09] ought to pray for those in our church

[13:10] that are elderly we ought to pray for

[13:12] those that are susceptible to this

[13:14] disease we ought to pray pray pray just

[13:19] as a choir saying last Sunday don't ever

[13:20] give up just

[13:23] because prayer is just as big as God is

[13:27] one writer said prayer moves the hand of

[13:30] God right now America is under the

[13:34] Disciplinary hand of God so you think

[13:37] this virus is because of sin I think

[13:39] this virus is because God allowed it to

[13:41] happen to get our attention friends of

[13:45] mine have shared on their social media

[13:46] how they've had people say that they've

[13:48] come in contact with and here at our

[13:50] church we're gonna have an opportunity

[13:51] to reach out in our community to help

[13:53] people and encourage people for the

[13:55] cause of Christ because they need to

[13:56] know that Christian people handled this

[13:58] differently because of the hope that is

[14:01] within us they'll be days where you're

[14:06] overwhelmed and there'll be days when

[14:08] your thought life will bring you down

[14:12] have you ever met people who are down

[14:14] all the time or discouraging all the

[14:17] time

[14:18] it drives you crazy doesn't it now I can

[14:21] see some of the people in here nodding

[14:22] their heads now I don't want you to name

[14:24] names all right

[14:25] now some of you online we may mention it

[14:27] and I'm just kidding we're not gonna

[14:28] mention your name but you know people

[14:30] that are always discouraged they're

[14:32] always down and you look at him saying

[14:35] why are you always that way

[14:37] well this is going on and this is going

[14:39] on and this is going on and they've got

[14:41] a list of complaints but what we need to

[14:45] do is practice what the hem says counts

[14:47] our blessings name them one by one but

[14:52] we can count our blessings and name them

[14:54] ten by ten or twenty by twenty or a

[14:57] hundred by a hundred all the things that

[15:00] God has done for us we count our

[15:02] blessings but many people are

[15:05] discouraged and down and fearful and

[15:10] afraid and they need to know Psalm three

[15:13] three and four but Thou O Lord are two

[15:17] shield for me my glory and the lifter up

[15:21] of mine head they ought to know that

[15:24] they can cry unto the Lord and he'll

[15:26] hear their cry my friend today no matter

[15:31] what we face in the week ahead no matter

[15:34] what comes your way this week

[15:36] you may get a phone call tomorrow that

[15:39] one of your friends has coronavirus and

[15:44] it may overwhelm you you may get a call

[15:46] this week as some in our church told me

[15:48] this morning of family members who have

[15:50] died not because of a virus but because

[15:52] of other circumstances health issues in

[15:54] their life you may be discouraged

[15:57] remember the Lord not only defends us

[16:00] from evil but he lifts us up when our

[16:04] head gets down see it's a choice to put

[16:07] your head down it's a choice to keep it

[16:10] down but allow the Lord to be the lifter

[16:13] up of your head the lifter up of your

[16:16] spirit the lifter of the Lord wants to

[16:20] lift you don't fight him don't fight him

[16:26] Lord wants you to wake up every morning

[16:28] and seek Him seek his face so he can

[16:35] lift you up so you can make it through

[16:37] the day but how tempted we are when the

[16:40] storms of life are rolling when the

[16:44] discouragement of life when we turn on

[16:47] the news and there's nothing good and

[16:49] you turn on the news and there's nothing

[16:51] good you can get discouraged I've talked

[16:56] to some they said I've never thought

[16:58] we'd be in days like this and that may

[17:02] be true but the Lord already knew the

[17:06] Lord already had a plan and the Lord

[17:08] wants us to take this truth to the lost

[17:11] and dying world the Lord is good and he

[17:16] is the lifter up of our head let's have

[17:19] a word of Prayer tonight as we go and

[17:22] think about the Lord this week I want to

[17:24] encourage all of you to remember God let

[17:28] him lift you up don't be discouraged

[17:31] he's the lifter up of your head Devon

[17:36] those who've assembled together with us

[17:39] Lord we're thankful for those who are

[17:41] watching online Lord we pray tonight

[17:44] that you be honored and glorified in our
