[0:00] haven't determined whether they were

[0:01] scuds or alamode missiles uh one of them

[0:05] landed near some US Marines but uh did

[0:08] no damage what does this tell you in the

[0:10] here they going and what should be

[0:12] looking for now well the first

[0:13] interesting thing you remember that uh

[0:16] the high command in Baghdad Saddam

[0:17] ordered control of the country broken up

[0:19] between four of his most trusted people

[0:22] but he kept control of the surface to

[0:23] surface missile units so if missiles are

[0:26] being fired in the South it's Saddam or

[0:28] some immediate successor to him has

[0:30] given that order because those units

[0:32] were directly under his command excuse

[0:34] me but the other day we were told that

[0:36] Saddam Hussein preparing for the US

[0:38] invasion had divided the country into

[0:40] four different military areas given the

[0:43] military commanders if you will sort of

[0:45] uh a blank check and did he or did he

[0:48] not send what is generally reputed to be

[0:50] one of his really bad guys to the

[0:52] southern part of the country yeah

[0:53] absolutely Ali Hassan al- maid his

[0:56] cousin who would used chemical weapons

[0:58] against the Kurds in the North in the

[1:00] late 1980s uh they call him chemical Ali

[1:03] but Saddam kept control of the surfac to

[1:05] surface missile units in the Air Force

[1:07] throughout the country so these units

[1:09] while they may be in Ali Hassan's area

[1:12] of responsibility the actual control for

[1:14] those forces sticks with Saddam Stephen

[1:16] black we come back to you in a moment

[1:18] right now let's go to Scott Pelle who is

[1:20] reporting live been doing some terrific

[1:22] reporting uh this morning from an area

[1:24] a
