[0:02] Tonight, a pledge for peace. President
[0:04] Bush brings together the leaders of
[0:06] Israel and Palestine, and they promise
[0:08] they'll try to make peace by the end of
[0:11] next year. I'm Katie Kurrick. Also
[0:14] tonight in our special series,
[0:15] Generation RX, a physician becomes a
[0:19] pusher.
[0:20] >> So, Dr. Himenez was essentially a doctor
[0:22] and a drug dealer.
[0:23] >> Yes, he was a licensed drug dealer
[0:26] >> feeding an epidemic of prescription drug
[0:28] abuse.
[0:34] This is the CBS Evening News with Katie
[0:37] Kurik.
[0:40] >> Good evening everyone. Israeli and
[0:41] Palestinian leaders today took what
[0:43] could be the first step toward a peace
[0:45] agreement brought together by President
[0:47] Bush. They agreed to new talks with the
[0:49] goal of striking a deal by the end of
[0:51] next year. A deal that would include a
[0:54] Palestinian state. Bill Plan is covering
[0:56] the summit at the US Naval Academy in
[0:58] Annapolis. Marilyn Bill. It was
[1:00] handshakes and smiles, but for a time it
[1:02] looked like things might actually fall
[1:03] apart.
[1:05] >> It sure did, Katie. When the president
[1:06] got here this morning, the Israelis and
[1:08] Palestinians had still not been able to
[1:10] agree on an agenda. CBS News has learned
[1:13] that Secretary of State Rice pressured
[1:15] the Palestinian President Makmoud Abbas
[1:18] to come up with something to avoid the
[1:20] appearance of failure.
[1:21] >> Distinguished guests,
[1:22] >> an hour later, Mr. Bush read the hastily
[1:24] drafted pledge by Israel and the
[1:26] Palestinians to try to make peace by the
[1:29] end of next year.
[1:30] >> We agree to immediately launch good
[1:32] faith bilateral negotiations in order to
[1:35] conclude a peace treaty
