[0:03] President Clinton vows he'll fight for

[0:05] his tax bill while its critics keep

[0:07] calling for changes. And the Muslim

[0:09] president of Bosnia rejects the Allied

[0:12] safe havens proposal.

[0:15] This is the CBS Evening News.

[0:23] Good evening. I'm John Roberts sitting

[0:24] in for Connie Chun. President Clinton

[0:26] may have to compromise if he wants his

[0:28] deficit reduction plan to pass. A group

[0:31] of bipartisan senators is keeping up the

[0:33] heat over new taxes you'd have to pay

[0:35] when you turn on the heat. Bruce Morton

[0:38] followed the Sunday rumblings on Capitol

[1:10] to Mr. Clinton's energy tax, but Morin

[1:12] of Oklahoma, one of the authors of a

[1:14] counter proposal, was talking compromise

[1:16] today. If we have to take some gasoline

[1:19] taxes that hits my people like it hits

[1:20] everybody else, I'm willing to take

[1:22] some.

[1:23] >> Bro of Louisiana said the president's

[1:25] plan couldn't pass now, but neither

[1:27] could Borance. Too tough on the poor.

[1:29] >> I think it has too many cuts in medical

[1:31] areas and health care for people who

[1:34] cannot have their healthcare taken away

[1:36] from them. We need something that can

[1:37] come down the midd
