[0:00] Bob and I will be back at 6.
[0:01] >> At 6.
[0:04] >> From ABC, this is World News Tonight
[0:07] with Peter Jennings.
[0:08] >> Good evening. We begin tonight with what
[0:10] all agree is a tragic loss of civilian
[0:12] life in the war and the great debate
[0:14] over who is to blame, the US or Saddam
[0:16] Hussein. An American attack on Baghdad
[0:19] before dawn this morning has left a
[0:21] large number of people dead. And for the
[0:23] first time since the war began almost a
[0:25] month ago, other people in other parts
[0:26] of the world have been able to see the
[0:28] death and destruction which can be
[0:30] caused when the US strikes from the air.

[0:49] sleeping inside. General Thomas Kelly
[0:51] said if the Pentagon had understood
[0:53] there were civilians there, there would
[0:55] not have been a raid. But many of the
[0:57] dead are women and children. ABC's Bill
[0:59] Blakemore filed this report, which was
[1:01] cleared by the Iraqis.
[1:05] >> By the end of the day, about 200 bodies
[1:08] had been brought out of the Amaria
[1:09] shelter. Hundreds more are expected,
[1:12] according to neighborhood officials
[1:13] familiar with the shelter's use, but no
[1:16] one knows exactly how many. We found
[1:18] this man still waiting for final proof
[1:20] of the death of his two daughters. We
[1:23] could see plainly as the bodies kept
[1:25] coming out that they are children and
[1:27] women. The man said to us, "This
