[0:00] This week on Ebert & Roeper, Detective
[0:02] Robert De Niro investigates his son for
[0:04] murder in City by the Sea.
[0:06] >> Also, Tom Hanks goes to the really big
[0:08] screen in Apollo 13: The IMAX
[0:10] Experience.
[0:11] >> And Stephen Dorff does battle with a
[0:13] cyber killer in fear.com.
[0:21] >> It was my son.
[0:22] His mother and me are divorced.
[0:24] She is his son. I'm sorry. Put a warrant
[0:27] out for him.
[0:27] >> Robert De Niro is a cop whose father was
[0:29] a killer and whose son may be a killer,
[0:31] too, in City by the Sea. It's one of the
[0:33] new movies we'll be reviewing this week,
[0:35] and I'm Roger Ebert.
[0:36] >> And I'm Richard Roeper. Our first movie
[0:38] is fear.com. Now, that's a catchy title,
[0:41] and it represents the first and last
[0:43] original thing about this drab and tired
[0:46] would-be horror flick. Working from what
[0:49] appears to be a half-finished
[0:50] screenplay, director William Malone
[0:52] seems to think he can hide the ludicrous
[0:54] story and protect the hapless cast as he
[0:56] shrouds them in darkness and rain in
[0:58] just about every scene. You'd think that
[0:59] nobody in this movie has paid his
[1:01] electric bill, but luckily their
[1:03] computers and TVs work.
[1:13] >> 48 hours.
[1:15] >> That's Natasha McElhone as a health
[1:17] inspector investigating the mysterious
[1:19] virus afflicting visitors to the
[1:21] fear.com site. But that phantom image is
[1:24] never explained. It's one of countless
[1:26] false leads and red herrings that add up
[1:28] to nothing. Stephen Dorff plays a cop
[1:31] who becomes a little too intrigued by
[1:33] fear.com.
[1:40] >> They want to hurt me,
[1:41] Mike.
[1:45] >> Jeanie.
[1:46] >> I know who you are.
[1:49] And I know what you really want.
[1:52] >> D
