[0:01] News in Washington. This is Meet the
[0:03] Press with Tim Russard.
[0:07] >> Welcome again to Meet the Press. Our
[0:08] issues this Sunday morning, the Clinton
[0:11] economic plan. Why did it pass? Will it
[0:14] work? And what else needs to be done?
[0:17] Our guest later in our program, we'll
[0:19] talk with the Republican leader who led
[0:21] the fight against the president's plan,
[0:22] Senator Bob Dole of Kansas. And in our
[0:25] political roundt, we'll be joined by
[0:27] author and columnist William Sapphire of
[0:29] the New York Times. But with us now, the
[0:32] man of the hour who helped Washington
[0:34] stay suspenseful all day long Friday
[0:37] before casting the deciding vote in
[0:39] favor of the Clinton plan, but not
[0:41] before he chastised both the president
[0:42] and the Republican opposition. Senator
[0:45] Bob Kerry, Democrat of Nebraska, who is
[0:47] joining us from NBC affiliate WOWTV
[0:51] in Omaha. Senator Kerry, welcome back to
[0:53] Meet the Press.
[0:55] >> Nice to be with you.
[0:56] >> And with me this morning, Lisa Myers of
[0:58] NBC News and David Broer of the
[1:00] Washington Post. Senator Kerry, it's
[1:03] been 36 hours since your vote.
[1:06] Any doubts, any regrets, any second
[1:08] thoughts?
[1:10] >> Well, I wish I made up my mind a little
[1:12] quicker, but the fact is, you know, when
[1:13] you're spending taxpayers money, why I
[1:15] think it deserves, you know, as much
[1:16] consideration as you can give it. And uh
[1:19] you know we still are doing a lot of
[1:21] things wrong in Washington. Uh you said
[1:22] that I criticized the Republicans and
[1:24] the president. I also criticized
[1:25] Democrats. You know we lost our way in
[1:27] opposing the BTU tax and I opposed the
[1:29] BTU tax.
