[0:00] Even if we flew several hundred sorties,
[0:03] even a thousand sorties, we have days to
[0:06] go before we have decisively defeated or
[0:08] incapacitated
[0:10] just the air and missile component and
[0:13] the weapons of mass destruction and
[0:14] command centers in Iraq and Kuwait.
[0:16] >> So in I apologize,
[0:18] >> we have not even begun the land battle
[0:21] if which if we have to fight it is the
[0:24] one which poses the most serious risks
[0:26] for American and coalition forces. I
[0:29] actually wanted to stop you short of the
[0:30] land battle there and sort of stay on
[0:31] the air battle for a second because if
[0:33] we were sitting here uh three or four
[0:35] nights from now and the US Air Force was
[0:39] still trying to pound missile sites and
[0:41] air bases and chemical and industrial
[0:44] complexes throughout Iraq. You wouldn't
[0:46] be surprised?
[0:47] >> I wouldn't be surprised. I think we can
[0:49] accomplish the key phases of the air
[0:51] battle much more quickly. But after all,
[0:54] we have no reason to risk our ground
[0:56] forces when we can attack Iraq's ground
[1:00] forces and its air forces and other
[1:02] facilities virtually at will from the
[1:04] air. The best way to minimize our
[1:07] casualties is to take advantage of our
[1:09] overwhelming superiority in the air. A
[1:12] superiority that Saddam Hussein simply
[1:15] cannot reply to.
[1:16] >> General Bernard Trainer in Boston, our
[1:19] other resident military analyst for the
[1:21] duration at the same time. Is it also
[1:23] not true uh that the Iraqi military, the
[1:26] Iraqi uh army in the field, particularly
[1:28] in Kuwait, can simply keep its head down
[1:30] and endure much of this bombing for the
[1:33] next several days?
[1:34] >>
