[17:37] think they're just guests i think

[18:17] and the talent weighs approximately 96

[18:21] and so i know for a fact we're not

[18:23] getting a hail like that tomorrow aren't

[18:25] you thankful for that

[18:26] but uh anyway just want to let those in

[18:28] discipleship class know i will

[18:30] let you know between 12 and 1 tomorrow

[18:45] cook out there hamburgers hot dogs and

[18:51] this sunday then right after that we'll

[18:52] have a service right there in

[18:54] the gymnasium and uh we've got some

[18:57] special music some special things

[18:59] planned there

[18:59] so we'll have that service there and

[19:01] then that'll be right after lunch so

[19:04] probably around well it depends on how

[19:05] long you eat all right

[19:07] and so you know we'll have lunch right

[19:09] after that that also depends on how long

[20:11] it is the last time and as you have

[20:14] heard that antichrist shall come

[20:17] even now are there many antichrists

[20:20] whereby we know that it is the last time

[20:23] they went out from us but they were not

[20:26] of us

[20:27] for if they had been of us they no doubt

[20:29] would have continued with

[20:30] us but they went out that they might be

[20:34] made

[20:34] manifest that they were not all

[20:37] of us but ye have an umption

[20:41] from the holy one and ye know all

[20:45] things i have not written unto you

[20:47] because you know not the truth

[20:49] but because you know it and that no lie

[20:53] is of the truth who is a liar

[20:56] but he that denieth that jesus is the

[22:34] place that you remove any distractions

[22:36] that would hinder the teaching and

[22:38] preaching of your word

[22:44] and it talks about little children now

[22:46] we know he's not talking about

[22:48] little boys and girls it's that

[22:50] reference that he's used

[22:52] to those that are young christians new

[22:55] to the faith

[22:56] we've talked about it in weeks past the

[22:58] little children the young men

[23:00] and then those that are aged and so he's

[23:02] got those three different

[23:03] categories so these young christians

[23:06] they've just been saved for a short

[23:08] period of time there at the church at

[23:09] ephesus primarily

[23:11] he's writing unto them and he tells them

[23:13] in the last time as you have heard that

[23:15] antichrist shall come

[23:18] even now are there many antichrists

[23:21] whereby we know that it is the last time

[23:24] and then verse 19

[23:25] is coupled with that they went out from

[23:29] us

[23:29] but they were not of us for if they'd

[23:31] been of us they no doubt would have

[23:32] continued with us

[23:34] but they went out that they might be

[23:35] made manifest that they were not

[23:38] all of us so verses 18 and 19

[23:42] john's doing his best to help these

[23:44] young christians because there's some

[23:47] apostasy creeping in now john

[23:50] he's the last living apostle at this

[23:52] time

[23:53] the writing of first john he's the last

[23:56] one left

[23:56] all the rest of them had died so john's

[23:59] the only apostle

[24:00] left so the us here is not referencing

[24:04] the apostles the us is representing

[24:07] those believers those early church

[24:09] believers and the early church itself

[24:13] now you and i know this to be true don't

[24:15] we

[24:16] that just because people come to church

[24:19] and just because people

[24:20] say that they've been saved and

[24:22] scripturally baptized

[24:23] doesn't necessarily mean that they are

[24:26] saved and scripturally baptized

[24:28] because you can says it that doesn't

[24:30] make it so

[24:32] but what happens is is that when the

[24:34] spirit of god draws someone to salvation

[24:36] they accept jesus christ so

[24:37] we could say it this way people are

[24:39] religious

[24:41] but they don't have a relationship the

[24:44] religious people

[24:46] but they're not regenerated people they

[24:48] haven't been borned again

[24:50] by the blood of jesus christ and so what

[24:53] was happening in this church was that

[24:55] there were those who were religious

[24:57] who had crept into the church and said

[25:00] hey we're on your side and we're with

[25:02] you but then

[25:03] it says in our text they said but jesus

[25:06] isn't the son of god

[25:07] now last time i checked i think that's

[25:09] kind of important to be getting saved

[25:11] isn't it

[25:12] that you realize that jesus is the

[25:14] christ that he

[25:16] was died and that he buried and that he

[25:19] rose again

[25:20] the third day according to the

[25:21] scriptures in fact i could say it this

[25:23] way

[25:24] if you don't believe that jesus is the

[25:25] son of god you'll have a hard time

[25:27] getting saved

[25:29] amen and so here in our text he's

[25:32] got these people who are in the services

[25:36] of the church but they're not

[25:37] part of the church they're religious

[25:40] people and john is trying to encourage

[25:44] them and he says you notice that they've

[25:46] gone

[25:47] out from us because of the fact

[25:51] they were not of us so they left

[25:54] the church and left

[25:57] what was happening there because

[26:02] there wasn't something internally

[26:05] that would have kept them there

[26:08] they left because they heard new

[26:11] teaching

[26:13] they left now during this time you've

[26:16] got the

[26:17] early churches struggle with law

[26:20] and grace there are those who are adding

[26:23] the law

[26:24] to salvation you have to do this and you

[26:27] have to do that

[26:28] and it wasn't about the law anymore the

[26:31] law had been put to death but done away

[26:32] with

[26:33] but they still wanted the law so they

[26:35] wanted you to still

[26:37] worship on the sabbath day they wanted

[26:39] you if you were a male to be circumcised

[26:41] in order to go to heaven they

[26:43] were laying out all these other things

[26:46] that you had to do on top of believing

[26:49] jesus

[26:50] and anything added to that is a work

[26:54] and can be a false doctrine also what

[26:57] was creeping in at this time

[26:59] was the spirit of gnosticism

[27:02] and the higher criticism and they began

[27:05] to

[27:06] doubt they said oh yeah jesus he was a

[27:08] real person

[27:10] but he wasn't god kind of sounds

[27:12] familiar doesn't it

[27:14] well that teaching began all the way

[27:16] back in the early church days

[27:18] the philosophers and the higher thinkers

[27:21] started to say

[27:22] you know what i propose and they would

[27:24] give you their thoughts

[27:27] and they were so high thinking

[27:30] that they were of no earthly good they

[27:33] fought such high thoughts and they

[27:35] questioned that

[27:36] jesus was god's son and began to creep

[27:40] in and that

[27:41] apostasy took root in the church

[27:44] and began to affect the local churches

[27:47] there and then

[27:48] the structures getting ready to be laid

[27:51] and getting ready to come in for

[27:53] catholicism and all of their beliefs and

[27:55] everything they want to throw in

[27:58] so this church of young believers is

[28:00] getting assaulted by apostasy

[28:03] and in that moment they're going but

[28:07] he was at church on sunday i'm

[28:08] paraphrasing

[28:10] but he just set two roses away from me

[28:13] but now he says that jesus is not the

[28:16] son of god

[28:17] hey we we set i said at their table at

[28:20] the last church fellowship and

[28:22] we talked about god and how we loved god

[28:25] but now

[28:26] he says that jesus is not the son of god

[28:29] are you getting it they were

[28:33] people they fellowshipped with but these

[28:36] people weren't fellowshipping with the

[28:37] father

[28:39] and so they were religious people

[28:43] that were coming out of the church

[28:47] now religious people it's easy for them

[28:50] to leave the church

[28:53] religious people can leave the church

[28:56] when somebody hurts their feelings

[28:59] religious people can leave a church

[29:01] because

[29:02] they don't like the color of the carpet

[29:06] religious people will leave a church

[29:10] because of something new some new shiny

[29:13] teachings some

[29:14] new circumstance religious people

[29:17] it's easy for them to be drawn away

[29:22] but relationship people who have the

[29:26] holy spirit living inside them

[29:28] it's a different story for us

[29:31] and verse 20 he said but ye have an

[29:33] umption from the holy one

[29:35] and you know all things so as a believer

[29:38] when you got

[29:39] saved the holy spirit came in and took

[29:42] residence in your heart

[29:44] and from that day forward the holy

[29:47] spirit has been a part of your life

[29:49] and has been evidenced in your life

[29:53] and he teaches you and he instructs you

[29:55] and he guides you

[29:57] into all truth

[30:01] but when you don't have that on the

[30:02] inside

[30:04] you're swept away by knowledge

[30:08] and thoughts and something shiny as we

[30:12] talked about last week

[30:14] new something new years ago

[30:18] when i was a youth pastor there was a

[30:21] man who wrote a book and it came out and

[30:23] oh it was sweeping the country and we

[30:26] dealt with it in the church that we were

[30:27] at with people getting caught up

[30:29] in this teaching and what they basically

[30:33] arrived at

[30:34] is that they went into a belief

[30:37] of hyper dispensationalism

[30:41] where they said the church really didn't

[30:43] start till acts chapter 22

[30:46] and because it didn't start till then we

[30:48] don't have to do the things they did

[30:50] in the other parts so you don't have to

[30:53] be baptized

[30:55] you don't have to ask jesus christ to

[30:58] forgive you of your sins you've already

[31:00] been forgiven so you can live any way

[31:02] you want to live because you've already

[31:03] been forgiven

[31:05] and that grace grace

[31:09] grace teaching they call it the naked

[31:12] gospel the grace teaching

[31:14] basically a right to this conclusion

[31:16] only doctrine you need is what

[31:18] paul wrote

[31:21] and then they said everything else you

[31:24] don't have to worry about

[31:27] that basically says here's a free

[31:29] license

[31:30] go do what you want to do and you'll be

[31:32] forgiven because jesus already forgave

[31:34] you

[31:35] that's kind of what happened in the

[31:37] catholic church and many generations ago

[31:38] when you could go to the priest

[31:40] on friday and you could buy an

[31:41] indulgence to go do whatever you wanted

[31:43] to do that weekend

[31:45] and already get forgiveness ahead of

[31:47] time

[31:48] you could go in and say hey here's some

[31:51] money

[31:52] will you pray for the sin i'm about to

[31:54] commit

[31:58] you can study in your history books you

[31:59] could buy an indulgence is what they

[32:01] called it

[32:01] you could pay ahead of time for the sin

[32:05] you wanted to commit that week in

[32:08] and the priest would forgive you you

[32:10] could go in and say i'm getting ready to

[32:12] go

[32:12] fight somebody and i might stab him in

[32:15] the process would you go ahead and pray

[32:16] for my forgiveness

[32:18] they'd put enough money in the offering

[32:20] and they would say okay your sins are

[32:22] bigger

[32:22] say this this this and you're already

[32:23] forgiven go ahead and go do it

[32:25] there's a problem there

[32:29] one the priest can't forgive your sins

[32:33] number two we shouldn't have a desire to

[32:35] go sin willfully

[32:38] and the holy spirit lives inside you

[32:39] he'll convict you of sin

[32:43] but what we discover here in our text is

[32:45] that they

[32:46] went out because they were religious not

[32:49] relationship based

[32:51] so he wrote unto them in verse 21 i've

[32:53] written unto you because you know

[32:55] not the truth but because you know it

[33:00] that no lie is of the truth and he

[33:02] describes to them the major lie

[33:04] jesus was the son of god no doubt about

[33:08] it

[33:09] that's what john addresses with him

[33:11] don't let anybody lie to you

[33:14] in other words when the holy spirit's

[33:15] living inside you

[33:17] and you hear something that doesn't

[33:20] sound quite right you ought to go huh

[33:26] what does my bible say

[33:29] about that

[33:33] now i can help you real quick are you

[33:35] ready if you're in the word

[33:38] on a daily basis you'll do better at

[33:41] having those that doesn't sound right

[33:43] moments

[33:46] the more you're spiritually feeding your

[33:48] relationship with god

[33:50] the more you're gonna go that doesn't

[33:52] sound right

[33:53] that sounds like a false teaching

[33:56] that sounds like something that some man

[33:59] made up

[34:00] not that god put in his word

[34:04] and so the more of the word we put in

[34:06] the more the holy spirit uses the word

[34:08] to guide us and direct us

[34:11] into all truth

[34:14] so i guess we could say it this way it's

[34:17] up to you

[34:19] to figure out is that bible

[34:23] or is it baloney

[34:26] is that bible or is it baloney

[34:30] now i don't know about you

[34:34] but i don't want to forget that satan

[34:38] is the father of all lies

[34:43] and he has been working overtime

[34:48] in the religious world

[34:53] over time there's doctrines that come

[34:56] out

[34:57] new teachings shiny things

[35:01] and it draws people in and what happens

[35:04] is that's

[35:05] new and because it's new

[35:08] it must be good that's not always true

[35:14] it's not bible it's not right

[35:19] well how will i know the bible says to

[35:21] study to show thyself approved unto god

[35:23] a workman watch this

[35:25] that needeth not to be ashamed

[35:29] rightly dividing

[35:32] the word of truth that means

[35:35] everybody in the room that's been saved

[35:38] by the blood of jesus christ that the

[35:39] holy spirit lives inside of you

[35:42] everyone that falls under that category

[35:44] has the ability by the grace of god

[35:46] to rightly divide the word of truth

[35:50] in other words say well the preacher

[35:53] should know

[35:54] yes but so should you

[35:58] amen you should study

[36:01] and study the word now i have an

[36:04] advantage

[36:06] i have an office and guess what i do in

[36:08] there study the word

[36:11] you pay me to do that and to preach and

[36:13] to make hospital visits all the other

[36:15] stuff on top of that

[36:16] but that's what i do i have opportunity

[36:19] to study

[36:20] the word of god and rightly divide the

[36:23] word of truth but i'm no

[36:25] different than you the same holy spirit

[36:28] that lives in me

[36:29] also lives in you and he can guide you

[36:32] as well as me into all truth

[36:37] we just have to put forth the effort

[36:41] and as you know some people sometimes

[36:43] say pastor got a question for you and i

[36:44] give them my answer

[36:46] i say well this is what the bible says

[36:48] or i'll tell them this

[36:50] i don't have an answer for you right now

[36:51] let me do some studying on that and i'll

[36:53] get

[36:54] back to you because i don't know if you

[36:56] know this some of you do my wife can

[36:58] definitely testify to this

[36:59] i don't know everything

[37:29] there's a lot of preach in my teach

[37:33] i get to preaching when i'm trying to

[37:35] teach

[37:36] but it's because of what's inside me i

[37:38] feel like jeremiah there's a fire shut

[37:40] up in my bones and i can't help but

[37:42] speak

[37:43] what god has done but as we look into

[37:45] our texts

[37:47] what was happening in that church there

[37:50] happens in churches across

[37:51] america today

[37:55] and my desire is to help us to learn

[37:59] to be on guard for apostasy

[38:03] in the church because somebody will come

[38:06] in

[38:07] and start teaching something new

[38:12] happened years ago with a man named john

[38:14] calvin

[38:16] john calvin came and he started what he

[38:18] call we call today

[38:20] calvinism now there were others teaching

[38:23] it before but he made the teaching

[38:24] popular

[38:27] and basically the calvinistic teaching

[38:29] centers around the fact of

[38:31] unconditional election in other words

[38:35] you get to go to heaven you get to go to

[38:38] hell

[38:39] because god didn't choose you that's not

[38:42] what my bible says

[38:46] unconditional election calvinists teach

[38:49] that

[38:50] god chose some people to go to heaven

[38:52] and some people to go to hell

[38:55] no when i read my bible says he came

[38:58] so that all men may be saved and come

[39:00] under the knowledge of the truth that

[39:02] god loved the whole world

[39:04] that god committed his love toward us

[39:05] that while we were yet sinners every

[39:07] man's a sinner christ died for

[39:08] all sinners

[39:12] but that teaching has crept in in places

[39:15] and has destroyed

[39:17] churches and churches that were running

[39:19] two to three hundred people

[39:21] now run 30 to 40 people because some

[39:23] went out from them

[39:28] now sometimes church splits happen

[39:32] that's not a good thing ever

[39:37] it's not that's why we pray it never

[39:40] happens here

[39:42] the way you keep that from happening is

[39:44] you stay in the word

[39:47] because then when somebody starts

[39:48] whispering a false doctrine you go

[39:50] that's not bible

[39:53] that's not right and then you're able to

[39:57] talk to them about it

[39:58] not being right but as you get into the

[40:00] word of god you're able to discern

[40:03] those things and so there are times

[40:06] though when people come into churches

[40:08] and they cause problems

[40:11] they come in with calvinistic teaching

[40:15] they come in with hyper

[40:16] dispensationalism and some you're like i

[40:18] don't even know what terms you're using

[40:20] pastor and that's fine

[40:23] they'll come in with irresistible grace

[40:26] that you don't have a choice if god

[40:27] wants you to get saved you don't get a

[40:29] choice about it you're getting saved

[40:31] whether you want to or not

[40:33] that's not what the bible teaches

[40:39] but that doctrine will creep in

[40:42] if you're not grounded in the word

[40:45] you're not grounded in the word

[40:46] they'll say well every bible's the same

[40:49] every bible is not the same

[40:52] one of the most popular bibles that were

[40:54] on the market a few years ago was the

[40:56] message bible

[40:57] the message bible is written by one man

[41:00] you open the front cover he'll tell you

[41:02] that it's his commentary on what he

[41:03] thinks the bible says

[41:05] but it's used all across the world

[41:08] by people who think that's a good

[41:10] translation it's a man's opinion on what

[41:12] he thought the bible meant

[41:15] but people get caught up in it people

[41:18] get caught up in different versions of

[41:20] the bible because it's new or it's shiny

[41:22] or it sounds good

[41:24] but when you consider the source of

[41:26] where it came from you'll discover an

[41:28] important truth

[41:29] god preserved his word for the

[41:31] english-speaking people in the king

[41:33] james version of the bible because of

[41:36] the source

[41:36] it comes from you say well preacher i

[41:40] defer

[41:41] well you can come talk to me afterward

[41:43] i'd love to listen to why you defer

[41:45] but then i'll tell you why i believe

[41:47] what i believe and i have

[41:49] proof to back it up

[41:52] but they'll come in and say oh we can

[41:54] switch to this or we'll come in and do

[41:56] that and you'll have false doctrine

[41:57] creep in

[42:00] they'll come in and say well you know

[42:01] what age-graded sunday school

[42:05] and age-graded classes are not in the

[42:07] bible

[42:09] therefore you should get rid of sunday

[42:11] school you should put

[42:13] everybody in the church room all

[42:15] together

[42:17] and any pastor who wants to do that is

[42:19] welcome to do that

[42:21] but in my experience of studying the

[42:23] bible it's more effective to minister to

[42:26] kids and to teach kids on their level

[42:28] than it is to try to teach on their

[42:30] level and their a teenager's level and

[42:32] an adult level

[42:32] all in one group setting

[42:36] so i would be doing an injustice of

[42:38] trying to be effective in

[42:40] ministering to that age group if i said

[42:42] well no we don't see it in the bible so

[42:44] nope we're not going to have

[42:45] sunday school anymore whoa when did more

[42:48] church

[42:49] ever hurt anybody

[42:52] more teaching and preaching when did

[42:53] that ever hurt anybody

[42:56] but what happens is those religious

[43:00] crowds come in

[43:03] the religious group of people

[43:07] are easily moved by apostasy

[43:13] that not ought to be you that ought not

[43:16] to be me

[43:17] with the holy spirit living inside us we

[43:20] ought not to get swept up in false

[43:22] doctrine

[43:23] amen we ought to study the word of god

[43:26] whether you've been saved for one week

[43:28] or you've been saved for 20 years

[43:30] you and i all want to study the word of

[43:32] god to know whether that's bible or it's

[43:34] baloney

[43:35] we ought to be able to discern whether

[43:37] it's truth or whether it's not truth now

[43:40] there are some areas in the bible that

[43:42] are gray

[43:43] areas where god did not say right or

[43:46] wrong

[43:46] but i can tell you this in god's

[43:49] judgment and the way that i read the

[43:50] bible

[43:51] i want to be more closer to the

[43:54] conservative

[43:55] line than i want to be to the pushing

[43:59] the line in other words i'd rather get

[44:01] to heaven and god say adam you could

[44:03] have loosened up a little bit

[44:06] then get to heaven and god say you

[44:08] really blew it

[44:12] and that's hard sometimes

[44:15] because of there's things that are

[44:17] appropriate for church

[44:21] and things that are not appropriate for

[44:23] church

[44:25] and so with that said there's things

[44:29] that we'll allow in a church service

[44:31] that you may listen to at your house but

[44:33] it's not coming in here

[44:35] and that's your conviction and you

[44:38] answer to god for what you do in your

[44:39] house

[44:40] and i have to answer to god for what i

[44:42] allow to happen on the platform in this

[44:44] house

[44:45] of the lord so just so you know

[44:49] i'm going to be closer to the

[44:51] conservative line than the

[44:54] over here lying just because

[44:58] and i i've got biblical reasons for that

[45:00] too it's not just it's my personal

[45:02] opinion

[45:03] because if it's my personal opinion it

[45:37] it talks about those that deny they deny

[45:47] abideth in you what anointing did you

[45:50] get you got anointed with the holy

[45:51] spirit when you got saved

[45:53] holy spirit came in and took residence

[46:44] people who were not regenerated and they

[46:46] did not have a relationship

[46:49] but you and i have been regenerated

[46:51] we've been born again

[46:52] but if our relationships not abiding in

[46:56] we're even going to be tempted or as the

[46:59] word hears you

[47:00] seduce to go away from truth

[47:06] you say preacher you tell us that all

[47:10] that's because of how important it is

[47:13] abiding in christ and in his word

[47:17] and having a personal relationship with

[47:22] god will help you stay

[47:29] and avoid apostasy

[53:50] don't live it outside these

[53:52] doors but if you come to church

[53:56] and you listen to the preaching you

[54:06] because he is fearful and afraid of

[54:13] satan loves to get christians to stall

[54:19] in their growth process with god
