[0:00] teams would come to me with we have to
[0:02] make sure there's Delight in this
[0:03] product and I'd be like yo you haven't
[0:05] even shipped anything yet like you
[0:06] haven't even figured out like what your
[0:08] product is and you're busy trying to
[0:10] figure out the physics of the like
[0:12] easing curve of this like button press
[0:16] and I'm like that's no like we don't
[0:18] even know what this product is yet like
[0:20] and I've always really loved the idea
[0:24] that you first start with making
[0:27] something that's useful and necessary
[0:29] like should this exist in the world is
[0:31] it useful right and if you can get that
[0:35] nailed down okay now make it beautiful
[0:39] like now like take the time to really
[0:41] make it beautiful often designers will
[0:43] jump to the last part before doing the
[0:45] first like this thing people can't even
[0:47] use this yet or no one's using this yet
[0:50] and it's not that the easing curve on
[0:52] the button is going to make it more
[0:53] useful I can tell you with high
[0:55] certainty that a lot of the things that
[0:57] designers care about the larger
[0:59] populations don't care as much about
[1:01] that doesn't mean you should go make
[1:02] badly crafted products but you have to
[1:06] figure out where you're spending your
[1:08] time and energy and when you're spending
[1:09] it there I spent a lot of time in my
[1:11] career trying to get that last 10% and
[1:14] learning that often it didn't add that
[1:17] much to people's satisfaction with the
[1:19] product and I've actually dialed it back
[1:21] a lot and actually found i' made better
[1:24] products faster cuz the thing is it
[1:26] takes time to do all those things and
[1:28] that's time that your p
