[0:08] Good evening. I'm Ed Murrow.
[0:10] The name of the program is Person to
[0:12] Person.
[0:13] And just for the record, there is
[0:14] nothing pre-recorded about it. It's all
[0:17] live and happens while you're looking at
[0:18] it.
[0:19] Tonight, we'll be going to Beverly
[0:20] Hills, California for a visit in the
[0:22] home of Adrian and his wife, Janet
[0:24] Gaynor. And then on to Philadelphia for
[0:26] a visit with the musical conductor,
[0:28] Eugene Ormandy.
[0:30] We'll be ready in exactly 20 seconds.
[0:34] Long distance, Maine to Florida.
[0:37] The American Oil Company, the drillers
[0:38] who produce oil, the scientists who
[0:41] refine it, the seamen who transport it,
[0:43] the men who deliver it, and the Amoco
[0:46] dealers who serve you. All the Amoco
[0:49] people calling you person to person.
[0:53] Janet Gaynor won the first Oscar ever
[0:56] awarded.
[0:57] That was in 1928 for her acting with
[0:59] Charles Farrell in Seventh Heaven.
[1:02] Miss Gaynor will also be remembered for
[1:04] her sensitive performance in A Star Is
[1:06] Born, to name one of many films in which
[1:08] she starred.
[1:10] Her husband, Gilbert Adrian, is known to
[1:13] any woman who has ever read a fashion
[1:14] magazine or has taken time to read the
[1:16] credits on playbills or movie screens.
[1:19] Among other assignments was the wardrobe
[1:21] he designed for Greta Garbo when she
[1:23] played Camille.
[1:24] Adrian and Miss Gaynor
[1:27] have done something few others in
[1:28] Hollywood have succeeded in doing.
[1:30] They have managed to retire with grace
[1:32] and without regrets.
[1:34] Together with their son, Robin, the
[1:36] Adrians live behind this entrance wall
[1:38] in a house up in the rolling hills above
[1:40] Beverly Hills, in the fashionable Bel
