[0:50] Societies often are judged on the basis
[0:53] of how they meet out punishment. This
[0:55] comes to mind because the execution of a
[0:57] convicted child molester and murderer in
[1:00] Washington state now appears to be only
[1:02] hours away and debate still rages over
[1:05] whether the form of this particular
[1:07] execution is so cruel as to be
[1:10] unconstitutional. Correspondent John
[1:12] Blackstone is covering this unusual
[1:14] story in Walaw Wala, Washington.
[1:17] Protesters who say hanging is barbaric
[1:19] have gathered at the Washington State
[1:21] Penitentiary. The condemned Wesley Dodd
[1:23] says he's ready to hang. And today,
[1:26] efforts to stop the execution failed in
[1:28] the state supreme court.
[1:29] >> The method by which the state proposes
[1:32] to kill Mr. Dodd. Hanging him by the
[1:35] neck is cruel and unusual punishment.
[1:38] >> But the man sentenced to hang by the
[1:40] neck until dead says that hanging is a
