[0:01] This is the CBS Evening News with Morton
[0:04] Dean.
[0:05] >> Good evening. Peace talks in Poland have
[0:07] so far failed to resolve the current
[0:09] crisis and the Communist Party Polit
[0:11] Bureau warned late today that the nation
[0:13] faces a very serious threat because of
[0:16] social tensions. The latest tensions
[0:18] resulted from a reported clash last week
[0:21] between members of the Solidarity Labor
[0:23] movement and police in the province of
[0:24] Bidgosh. Several union members had to be
[0:27] hospitalized. Today, representatives of
[0:29] the government met with representatives

[0:59] Council of Ministers in Warsaw to await
[1:02] the outcome of Solidarity Leader Lech
[1:04] Venza's talks with Vice Premier
[1:06] Rakovski. When Vwenza and other union
[1:08] officers came out after the first round
[1:10] of talks lasting nearly 3 hours, there
[1:12] was great excitement, but neither Venza
[1:15] nor Rakovski had much to say.
[1:21] It was going to take more than talk to
[1:23] cool the temper of people in bid ghost
[1:25] and of union members throughout Poland.
[1:27] Pictures of the victims of Thursday
[1:29] night's beatings kept the level of an
