[0:33] reports have grown to a rumble of War
[0:35] talk frighteningly reminiscent of the
[0:37] days that preceded World Wars 1 and two
[0:40] some of the rumors seemingly have been
[0:42] fed by Administration sources in
[0:44] Washington but today the state
[0:46] department moved to dampen the alarm
[0:48] Marvin cow
[0:50] reports the administration moved quickly
[0:53] to head off a building War scare
[0:55] officials pointed to the return to
[0:56] Washington tonight of Soviet Ambassador
[0:58] DE brinan after a conspicuous absence of
[1:01] 6 weeks and the parallel return to
[1:03] Moscow of US ambassador Watson as a
[1:05] clear sign that both sides want to
[1:07] regulate the crisis and spokesman hting
[1:10] Carter tried to calm anxieties about
[1:12] Soviet military Maneuvers near
[1:15] Yugoslavia what we have is a a knowledge
[1:19] of
[1:20] some
[1:22] low-level apparently routine Soviet
[1:24] military exercises underway uh in
[1:27] Eastern Europe and the Western Soviet
[1:29] Union
[1:30] so
[1:32] far we believe those to be normal types
[1:36] of activity for this time of year the
[1:39] problem is officials want the president
[1:41] to look tough and to discourage any
[1:43] further Soviet adventurism after
[1:45] Afghanistan but they do not want to
[1:47] encourage any big Po
