[0:04] >> This is NBC Nightly News with John

[0:06] Chancellor and David Brinkley. Tonight,

[0:08] June 17th, reported by John Chancellor

[0:11] from the NBC News Center in New York.

[0:14] >> Good evening. The Carter

[0:15] administration's hopes and plans for the

[0:17] Middle East were put out today in the

[0:19] most comprehensive form so far. The

[0:22] administration wants Israel to go back

[0:24] approximately to the borders before the

[1:29] must be recognized borders,

[1:32] but in addition, there could be separate

[1:38] could enhance Israel's security. a

[1:41] >> Monday will also try to reassure

[1:43] Israelis and American Jews who have

[1:45] doubts about President Carter's military

[1:47] commitment to
